Every day after school we have to get bus home. It is normally a busy bus but as we get on at start we always get a seat. There are not normally seating issues when the bus is running to time.My children are at an age where I have to pay for them both.

Today the bus is 15mins late at the first stop, so by the time we get midway home and to the stop at local secondary there is a large queue of pupils waiting to get on. There are approx 5 seats free with all standing room available. bus driver let's pupils on then proceeds to try to arrange everyone imho he had let too many people on at this stop. He comes up to where I am sitting with dd2 (dd1 is on seat infront of us with a pupil beside her) and asks me to put dd2 onto my lap. I say 'will I get a refund for her fare?' he says no. I refuse to have her on my lap on the principle that I paid for that seat.

I travel all buses all the time due to never getting round to actually take a driving test and have never, ever been on a bus with a seatbelt.
Buses don't have seatbelts. (Coaches do, though.)
I also have a 6 year old who I regularly travel with. If it was a packed bus, yes he would have to sit on my knee. No, it wouldn't be ideal, as he'd very quickly get heavy, but you pay for the TRAVEL, not the seat.
If you've been travelling on buses for 10 months or whatever and never experienced a packed bus and got a seat every time, you're extremely lucky!
I'm assuming you've never been travelling on rush hour trains. Be grateful for that. They pack you in like sardines and do everything bar strapping people to the roofs to shoehorn as many people as they can in. Grin
--shouldn't give them ideas, lol)
Should we all get refunds if we don't get a seat then? As there'd be thousands of us.
Oh, and if you're in any doubt - yes, YABVU!

Ds sat down in the disabled seat a few months ago whilst I was paying and was told off by an old lady as the seat's 'for disabled people'. He had to explain that he is disabled. Just because someone doesn't have a stick or isn't in a wheelchair it doesn't mean they are not struggling.

Some OAP's are very able and go on 20 mile hikes, kali, so I don't automatically give people my seat (I have MS, I'm not being awkward). If I can see someone struggling I'll give them my seat but will order ds to stay sitting down as his needs are greater than mine.

This is just so selfish. OP YABU. This is how society works: sometimes you have to put yourself out a bit in order to help someone else out. Sometimes someone else will put themselves out to help you. Simples.
