...to feel strongly that women should not wash their private parts with soap, nor use feminine freshness wipes?

And the reason this is bothering me now is because I have had an argument with my (otherwise lovely) "waxing technician" because every time I go for a brazilian she insists on wiping me, inside my vagina after every spread of wax, with these packeted wipes.

How is it that we are in 2014 and the medical profession has not done a good enough job to make women aware that using products which remove the oils/mucous from places like the urethra/vagina/anus, causes problems with bacterial infection?

I like to be less hairy (wax or cream).
I like to wash (with soap - gasp).
I do NOT like my beautician to go anywhere near the inside of my vagina.

LapsedPacifist · 21/03/2014 22:28

'Original source tea tree and mint shower gel' = Pah! That's for wimps...

This stuff - Original Source XXX Black Mint Shower Gel - is truly the work of the devil. I cried for hours and had to sit in a cold bath with a bag of frozen peas pressed against me bits after inadvertently using the Real Man Minty Gloop.

Sallystyle · 21/03/2014 22:40

I get thrush at least once a month. Often times two.

Soap goes nowhere near my vulva.

DownstairsMixUp · 21/03/2014 22:51

Gross that you don't wash your bum. Ming.

YNK · 21/03/2014 22:59

Who doesn't wash their bum?

YNK · 21/03/2014 23:00

Ooooh just re read the op! No excuse for not CLEANING your bum! Soap is not the only cleanser in the world!!!

Amethyst24 · 21/03/2014 23:21

Blimey. I've been having hollywood waxes for years and have never had my fanjo cleansed with antibac wipes or anything else. A bit of aloe vera gel afterwards to soothe the area is normal. Some therapists sorts of swoosh it on with their (gloved) fingers; some squirt and leave you to rub it in yourself. I wash my bits outside but wouldn't dream of cleaning inside anywhere with soap or anything else. As far as I know, waxing doesn't increase the risk of BV or thrush.

AnswersThroughHaiku · 21/03/2014 23:59

This is the weirdest
Fucking thread I have seen in
A very long time.

DarylDixonsDarlin · 22/03/2014 00:35

Ok well you're all berating the OP for refusing use soap, but honestly, if I let Dove soap anywhere near my foof it stings, goes red sore and itchy. This has led to thrush many times, Same with a lot of other shower gels/soaps, can't use heavily scented bath products either. The only thing which doesn't bother me is Simple baby head to toe wash, I use it on the DCs anyway.

I notice most of you are saying, if its on the outside it will not cause thrush - so how did there get to be such an uproar on mumsnet a while back about the scented Always pads causing thrush!? They go on the outside after all, not inside?

A mystery, indeed...

GingerRodgers · 22/03/2014 07:45

Daryl, I think the point is that the op is suggesting soap should never be used near a fanjo at all but is happy to have hot wax smothered around the area. Little contradictory really.

Wrt always pads, surely the entrance to your vagina sits on the pad so it's in direct contact and a direct path for any chemicals/fragrances to get up there?

DustBunnyFarmer · 22/03/2014 07:50

Combined with the memory of the "my vulva is on fire lets sit in a bowl of water and bicarbonate" that I believe was triggered by shower gel and scented always.

When I saw my GP about my distressed lady garden a few years ago, her first question was whether I used Always pads. Things have improved no end since I gave Always the elbow. To the PP above, its like people who get nickel allergy from their bling: if you are a sensitive skinned, allergy prone sort of person, close proximity/contact is enough.

VoyageDeVerity · 22/03/2014 08:13

English women have a reputation for having smelly genitalia.

Reading this thread I understand why.

Pipbin · 22/03/2014 08:18

Mine is not in direct contact. My vulva completely covers the entrance to my vagina. So the pads are not actually touching it at all.
But then I have a hairy fanny and have never waxed so I'm clearly some kind to troglodyte.

KidsDontThinkImCool · 22/03/2014 08:33

I reckon OP started this thread on a bet. Highly entertaining.

andsmile · 22/03/2014 08:34

where at with who voyagede?

letsbehonest100 · 22/03/2014 08:49

I can't cope with anything scented anywhere near my vagina without it causing horrible irritation. I even have to wash my underwear in extra gentle washing liquid.

Waxing causes no issues- yes it's quite brutal but there are no chemical perfumes to cause a problem.

I wash myself with non perfumed aqueous soap. I smell as clean as a whistle- I think!

Skivvywoman · 22/03/2014 08:55

I have actually laughed so loud reading this (quite the hangover cure)

The beautician has wiped you with a anti bac wipe before she starts to get rid of sweat etc plus she doesn't want to wax/touch a sweaty fanny!
you certainly won't get thrush from that!

harriet247 · 22/03/2014 08:58

Ummm just chipping in really. Im a professional waxer and you should definitly NOT be doing what your waxer is doing. In a million years.

ReadyToBreak · 22/03/2014 09:13

Really VoyageDeVerity????

Never had any problems with 'smelly genitalia' myself.

I don't use soap or shower gel on my lady bits as it sets off hideous cystitis and I don't have smelly bits.

I even believe it's recommended women don't use products 'down there' as it messes with the natural ph balance.

Smelly bits would suggest you have an infection or gasp unbalanced ph levels.

ReadyToBreak · 22/03/2014 09:15

But I am bald down there and my waxing lady never uses wipes. Doesn't sound right!

Find another waxing lady, OP.

Skivvywoman · 22/03/2014 09:21

Every waxer I've been to has gave a quick wipe

FreudiansSlipper · 22/03/2014 09:25

I used to work as a beauty therapist

many clients did not care if they smelt

I always cleaned area to remove oils (natural) thankfully this was the days before it was fashionable to get it all waxed off, the only time it was requested was from professional women but as i had never waxed the foofoo fully i said it was best they went elsewhere for that particular treatment

EeeIcouldCrushAGrape · 22/03/2014 09:26

WTF?! Surely that's not a part of a wax, that's ridiculous on so many levels if true that I don't know where to begin!
NOT OK for her to do that, and no, you shouldn't use stuff. It messes with the PH balance of your insides or some such guff.
Jeez, If even I know that then she bloody well should!!

EeeIcouldCrushAGrape · 22/03/2014 09:28

This is like that episode of friends when Joey discovers that not all tailors do 'cupping'.

Grin I was thinking the exact same thing. Grin

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 22/03/2014 09:41

Oh god, I don't want to enter this thread but as the mother of boys only I just thought surely people use wipes on their daughters when changing nappies? Not internally obviously, but when cleaning up a poo-nami I would imagine you would have to wipe the whole area quite thoroughly. So I can't necessarily see a problem with what I understand this particular therapist to have done, using the helpful diagrams to assist me in picturing what actually happened ...but am completely horrified at the whole prospect of having hairs ripped out from the inner lips with hot wax in the first place. Is that not agony?
