Would a message to someone's "Other Folder" in Facebook be obvious to the receiver?

My ex injured himself quite badly over the weekend - all I got was a quick message to say he was in hospital and then no signal on his phone for about 8 hours.

Even though he is my ex, I still care for him (obviously I wouldn't want him to be seriously ill or worse) and was very worried when I couldn't get in contact with him (we also have a 2 yo DD together). In the message I got from him he said that he had been with his friend when the accident happened. I didn't have this friend's number anymore (it was on my old phone) so I joined Facebook specifically to send him a message. Because we aren't "friends" on there my message went to his "Other Inbox".

I was basically explaining that I was really concerned about ex and whether he had any news. This was a few days ago now and he did not respond to my message. I have subsequently had contact with my ex and he has been discharged and should be fine. But I AIBU to be slightly annoyed that this friend has not got back to me? Or is there a chance that he has not seen my message. I just feel like he has ignored me.

Messages in your Other folder are really easy to overlook.

ScarletLady02 · 19/03/2014 19:49

It's very possible he hadn't seen it. I didn't even know there WAS an "Other" inbox until someone told me and I had nearly 50 messages in there.

Stinklebell · 19/03/2014 19:50

Messages in others folder aren't really obvious

I found loads in my others folder, some a couple of years old, that I'd never noticed until someone directed me to it

dannychampionoftheworld · 19/03/2014 19:50

Yeah I didn't realise it existed until the other day when I accidentally clicked on it... and found a load of messages I'd sworn I hadn't received. Oops.

shakinstevenslovechild · 19/03/2014 19:51

If he goes on FB on his phone he definitely won't see it, and even if he doesn't there is every chance he won't see his others folder, when I was on FB I never looked at mine.

Hope you get some news soon Flowers

Really easy to miss, I missed an invite to my own brother's 40th cos it went to my other folder.

CrushingCandies · 19/03/2014 19:52

Its easy to overlook but you would be able tho tell if it has been read as there'd be a tick saying seen at the bottom of the message.

Not if he uses mobile site, apparently I have mesgs in my !others folder' someone moaned at me but Ii can't even access/see other folder from my mobile

SackAndCrack · 19/03/2014 19:55

I found messages in my Other Folder that had been sent years before.

Genuinely dont think its not his fault.

You can only see it if you have a PC.

TwittyMcTwitterson · 19/03/2014 19:58

As others have said, I absolutely 100 per cent cannot access it from my iPhone app. I can on the computer but it doesn't tell me I have a message. I have to click on the message icon and it says inbox 0 others 3 million. I've actually missed out on important messages because I didn't know about it.

Add him as a friend and go from there Grin

kali110 · 20/03/2014 00:20

Very easy to overlook.
I use mobile 99% for fb and can access my other messages from it.

threeleftfeet · 20/03/2014 00:25

I didn't even know the "other" folder existed till last year and I've been using Facebook for years now. Even now I know it's there I din't think I've remembered to check it since before Xmas.

Very easy to miss!

innisglas · 20/03/2014 01:09

Yeap, only just discovered it thanks to this thread, you live and learn

Joysmum · 20/03/2014 08:46

I didn't even know there was an other box

daphnehoneybutt · 20/03/2014 09:35

I just noticed one from January

NoNoNoNoNoYabu · 20/03/2014 09:44

Look at the message you sent him on a pc (not your phone)

you can tell if the message was read

Kudzugirl · 20/03/2014 09:46

Where is the other folder?

ShoeWhore · 20/03/2014 09:49

I had literally no idea this even existed - just checked and found mine - it has 6 unread messages in it.

ShoeWhore · 20/03/2014 09:50

Hope your ex makes a speedy recovery we

BillyBanter · 20/03/2014 09:50

Nope. I got one the other day and someone else had to draw my attention to it by texting me.

Morgause · 20/03/2014 09:52

This made me check and I have one from November.

GawjussStunningHunLoolz · 20/03/2014 09:52

I had to show my DH the other day that he even had an 'other' box on fb. He's never even noticed it before. When he opened it there was one in there from an old friend from 20 odd years ago querying if it was actually him or not, as she couldn't be sure from the profile photo.

Mine tends to be full of 'Hello pretty lady, I noticed you and you look lovely, would you like to meet?' type messages from men in Africa and the Middle East. Confused

Driveway · 20/03/2014 09:55

He won't have seen it!

Kudzugirl · 20/03/2014 09:58

And how can you check if somebody you have sent a message to (via their other folder) has seen it?
