I have asked a friend and her DS if they would like to join me, my DDs, another friend and her DD for a day out during the easter hols.
Is it unreasonable to expect them to check the calendar and commit one way or the other? A response of 'can I let u know nearer the time?' smacks of 'i might get a better offer in between now and then, which, quite frankly, is rather disrespectful.

24 hours to reply to a text is nothing. I genuinely forget as I'm doing other things, working, whatever.

Maybe she has had other offers before yours. Maybe her DH doesn't know if he's working, maybe they're talking about going away. I don't even know my shifts that far in advance.

There could be all sorts of reasons. Yes she could have been a bit more specific but there's no need to take it personally.

Ha ha, I would've mentioned dh's work in a text back, any chance to moan about the bloody stupid people he works for and their inability to tell him what shifts he's doing more than a couple of weeks in advance and I'm there!!! Lol

YANBU. It's good to put things in the diary a little while in advance. It shows you value the friend and aren't going to wait to see what else comes up. It's nice to be able to look forward to it as well.

Rather than say "I'll let you know nearer the time" it might be better to say "We'd love to, I just have a couple of things to check and will let you know by Thursday".

It's the short notice invitations I find annoying. People who ask you to drop everything at the last minute to fit them in because they haven't seen you for ages and they're free tomorrow morning. Even if I haven't got anything specific for tomorrow I don't want to suddenly have to start rushing around, buying a thank you present, make a journey I wasn't planning for etc.
