Just got dds school report, it's good, in the main, which we expected, but she is a worker. Now, some of you know that dd is an intelligent, hardworking, articulate woman, so please take note, those that don't!
She has had difficulty with her German lessons all the way through AS level. Not so much the lessons as the lack of tuition, she has two hours teacher contact time per week, for AS level! The teacher continually tells her that she won't make it. She leaves her ridiculous amounts of work to do in the scheduled lesson times, as well as homework. I have had enough and hired a private tutor. Said tutor has pointed out that a) not enough contact time, b) her pupils finished the book that dd is on (chapter three) before christmas, c) The school teacher's corrections needed correcting, d) with enough tuition dd can achieve a c this year and a b next. I know the woman tutoring, she taught ds for four years at a different school.
Now, despite the fact that dd is doing everything asked of her and more, fucking bitch has given her a satisfactory for effort and a bit of a slagging off. I am writing to the governors about the lack of teacher contact time, the fact that the report is grossly unfair, and the fact that it's not even written properly. Any suggestions welcome.

Tilly, thank you so much.
Dd has hearing difficulties too, she has trouble distinguishing between background and foreground noise, the result being in a noisy classroom scenario she hears noise and nothing else, a bit like static, nothing distinguishable. She needs to hear things in english first so that she has time to process what is being asked of her, and whilst I realise the norm is to ask in the language being taught, at the moment this is not appropriate.
We shall go with your suggestions, they're fabulous.
Thank you so much for helping a family that you are unlikely ever to meet, you are a wonderful, kind and patient person and your help it greatly appreciated.

frumpet I am going to push you towards Living German too. It really is a very good book. There's also Michel Thomas (borrow from your local library).

Dawndonna you should look at Michel Thomas too. Spoken grammar teaching. I don't think it's necessarily worth the retail price, but it is definitely worth a library rental-fee, especially if your main aim is to practise listening and if you rent it on CD, you can copy it onto your computer and put the recordings on an MP3 player.

buffy you wouldn't say that if you had to put up with me in real life! Grin I temporarily mislaid my work ethic from November to February this year. Blush The amount of essays I haven't done...

tillttelltale does anyone other than santa have a work ethic from November to February ? I think most people are going along the lines of ' oooo its nearly Christmas , aaah it is Christmas , oh bugger Christmas is over and its still cold and dark and i am now totally skint '

And thank you for the reccomendations Smile

Hoping it will be easy to get back into as only ever learnt German at school , not one word of French ever , which wasnt entirely helpful when a company i used to work for kept sending me to Paris Wink

Calling the teacher a 'fucking bitch' is utterly outrageous. You're supposed to be an adult for god's sake. Disgusting.

Rather refreshing to see such an attack of the vapours on MN. Hope you're recovered now 2013

However, she didn't call her that to her face, Donna is just venting here and fair play to her. In fact if my own German teacher weren't beyond retirement age by now I would suspect she was Donna's DD's teacher

Bless you dear, can't you read?
