to be more than a little taken aback by what DD just said to me?

"Don't worry Mum, my trousers aren't wet they are just a little damp".

I mean WTAF?!?! Surely only a scant few okay maybe 9 months ago all she was saying was "dog" or " 'ama" or "cat"...in fact I have video evidence of this....

WIBU to tell my DD to stop growing up so damn fast? Or do I need to pay more attention in case I blink and miss the whole thing?

I was just so startled...I briefly wondered if she had been replaced with a robot or accidentally had the database of the ancients downloaded into her brain...

but I think I will just have to face up to the idea that she is growing up!

It happens so fast. Ds2 said to me two months ago, with perfect diction, 'You're a troublemaker Mummy.' He is only just turning three and I was surprised to hear such a long word, let alone in a sentence, and also in context as I was strapping him into the buggy and he didn't want to go in!

Your dd sounds so cute, and obviously has brilliant language skills!

Mine did this too. From her only word being woof woof to yesterday's 'I would rather have a tangerine actually mummy' has taken 7 months!

totally mad isn't it? woof to tangerine is quite the leap!

DD has also only ever really spoken to me and DH...but today she announced to a random couple in the lift at sainsbos with us "its Grandma's birthday! I'm making a pineapple upside down cake"

I was like Shock 'oh are you? okay we had better buy eggs then' Blush

First I had heard of it (the cake not the birthday!)

Oh how sweet! My DS was a very late talker then a stutterer. I was quite worried. Fast forward 13 years (and I mean I blinked and here we are!) and I often tell him he should be in politics. He could argue for England and often does...He makes me doubt myself when I only ask him to tidy his room. But wish I could have a talk with my younger self and tell myself not to worry so much. On reflection, he must take after me. My Mum says I was born talking. I was out of nappies by the time I was one and apparently I asked someone to redo the pin in my nappy as it was falling down!! My Mum swears this is true but I don't remember.

Its totally nuts how different kids development patterns are. It blows my mind that some kids are talking at 6 months and others take maybe 4-5 times as long but still end up in the same place....just bonkers.

and awesome!

All kids are just amazing.

How cute. Smile My DD spoke early and well...but had issues socially...one day I came to pick her up from school and realised she had friends and was relaxed at school and happy...when these developments happen it's so lovely.

I agree, all kids develop so differently. My best friend and I had boys 3 days apart. Mine (the little br) was walking, climbing and generally active from 10 months!! Hers just lay there.....didn't sit till 16 months, walk till 19 months. They were both playing rugby in the same team by 9 years old!

My son will be two next month, and freaked me out yesterday when, having been looking at his new toy mobile phone (gift with latest issue of Fireman Sam magazine!), he held it to his ear, shook his head and said 'I'm afraid no signal, Mummy'.

DS went from one word in a blue moon to full sentences in a very short time. I put it down to never being able to get a word in edge ways with DD, once she was at school full time there was no stopping him!
They do grow up far too fast.

IceBeing DS age 10 is totally into Stargate, but DD (7) finds it boring. They both love the SG 3000 ride which is currently on at the Centre for Life in Newcastle though. Grin

Oh, and YANBU, it's freaky how they leap in development. I was looking at old photos yesterday and I hadn't realised how long DD had stayed podgy, she was always slim compared to DS at the same age, but comparing her to now was a bit of a woah moment. :)

It is an explosive thing, this learning to talk. DD1 went from 'Fall, cry' describing another toddler falling over at 19 months to 'Look mummy, pigs in the field behind hedge over there!' at 22 months. I nearly ran the car into the aforementioned hedge.

My ds1 has hearing loss and wears aids and is speech delayed but finally at 4.4 he is talking in sentences. It is truly amazing for me I never thought he would get there and now we are working on vocabulary - I can recommend 1000 words in English by usborne book people are selling it.
