to not understand why people consider McDonalds to be a "treat"

TalkinPeace · 13/03/2014 15:22

if I want a family "treat" meal I go somewhere with fresh, favoursome food made especially for us.

Why do people take their kids somewhere that sells the lowest common denominator of food and call it a "treat" ?

OP posts:
Plateofcrumbs · 13/03/2014 15:49

McDs = 'occasional guilty pleasure', therefore a 'treat'. Fresh flavoursome food (home) cooked for me = what I eat every day, therefore not a 'treat'.

Also I have eaten at the Fat Duck and that's definitely not a 'treat', that's a 'once in a lifetime special event'.

DietCokeMultipackCan · 13/03/2014 15:50

Cheeseburger happymeal for me please!

BumpyGrindy · 13/03/2014 15:50

OP it's very nice that you can afford to buy "Flavoursome" (boak) food that was made "Especially for you" (twat) but here's a bit of information to shock you out of your special little world...NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD ANYTHING NICER.

SometimesLonely · 13/03/2014 15:53

Coffee £4
Sandwich £9

If you think these prices are expensive, why do you frequent the places? Just can't understand some people.

I've never eaten in or had 'food' from McDonald's. Not that it shows ......

Fucking hell BumbyGrindy LOLing here now Grin

SaucyJack · 13/03/2014 15:54

I love Maccy D's.

I don't eat meat so I get a cheeseburger without the actual burger in which I then fill with fries covered in extra salt, dip it all in BBQ sauce and then scoff.

It's manna from heaven.

WorraLiberty · 13/03/2014 15:55

I want to follow SaucyJack round and beg for the spare burgers Grin

NurseyWursey · 13/03/2014 15:55

I get 20 chicken nuggets.

Eat all the skin off then dip the insides in BBQ sauce

GIMME

I thought the purpose of the Ikea restaurant was to stop people who couldn't find their way out from starving to death Grin.

I don't mind a McDonalds every once in a while, but I have to be in the mood for it, otherwise it feels like a punishment. The blow is somewhat softened in Spanish airports, where you can choose beer as the drink with your extra value meal.

99% of the time, I would much rather eat 'proper' food though (ie, with a plate, vegetables, gravy or other sauce).

Their coffee is very good and their breakfasts are not bad but I don't see the need for cheese to be included.

I almost never eat burgers from anywhere but sometimes have fish fillet or nuggets and chips.

The meat is much better quality than a lot of independent places that do fried chicken/burgers/kebabs/pizzas.

TalkinPeace · 13/03/2014 15:56

Please note I am not the poster who commented on the clientelle at McD
as I know its as varied as any other eaterie

and I love burgers : but I'd rather make one myself

before Ikea opened I used to go to an independent baker to get the calorific bomb that is a chicken slice followed by an eccles cake (also around £4 a head)
which was probably of pretty dubious origin too

I guess my real question is .....

why go for a cheap treat once a week when you could have a more expensive one once a month?

and YYY to loathing the idea of a spa weekend [shudder emoticon]

On a long drive, I'd rather skip a meal than feel ripped off by 'services' food.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 13/03/2014 15:57

Anyway, who wants to assemble a flat pack smoke salmon salad?

Chippednailvarnish · 13/03/2014 15:58

I hate McDonalds, but the whole idea that Ikea's food is some how more nutritious is just downright fucking stupid.

And I would rather a child thought of McDonalds as a treat, opposed to an every day occurance.

Plateofcrumbs · 13/03/2014 15:58

Proving that you can be a 'foodie' and still like McDs, Nigel Slater on his love for Big Macs:

Well yes that's very sensible isn't it, low blood sugar, dizziness.. erm.. crashes?!

I'm sure the children in tow would love that too.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 13/03/2014 15:58

I feel quite sad now.

I had a sausage and egg mc muffin and a hash brown for my breakfast.
But now I really really really want a quarter pounder and a strawberry milkshake.

WIBU to eat not 1 but 2 meals from mcdonalds today?

Pippintea · 13/03/2014 15:58

I've not eaten in McDonalds for over 30 years
So do you know what a McDonalds meal tastes like? Have you any idea how much they cost or what is on the menu?

Cuxibamba · 13/03/2014 15:59

It's a guilty pleasure. It's unhealthy but I still love the food, and the atmosphere is relaxed and informal. It's easy to bring the kids to, and they get a toy out of it so enjoy going- it's a treat for us all.

NigellasDealer · 13/03/2014 15:59

yes tantrums! step away from the car!!

wobblyweebles · 13/03/2014 15:59

I would rather rip my head off than do a long drive with three pre-teens who are hungry...

WorraLiberty · 13/03/2014 15:59

why go for a cheap treat once a week when you could have a more expensive one once a month?

Why are you assuming everyone goes to Maccy Dees, once a week? Confused

We probably go once every 6 weeks or so.

Are you bored OP? Or are you always this disingenuous?

notso · 13/03/2014 16:00

My family has fresh, flavoursome food made especially for them by me approximately 340 days of the year.
Any meal I don't have to cook is a treat for me, Macdonalds, Burgerking, GBK, or Le Manoir I don't care as long as I don't have to cook it or wash up after it.

Chippednailvarnish · 13/03/2014 16:00

why go for a cheap treat once a week when you could have a more expensive one once a month?

Because some people can only afford a cheap treat once a month?

McD's coffee is pretty good. I have never been able to face a Big Mac after a holiday in the US about 20 years ago when you got two Big Macs for $2, and DH insisted on making the most of that offer [vomit smiley].

Subway is our fast food of choice.
