to not understand why people consider McDonalds to be a "treat"

TalkinPeace · 13/03/2014 15:22

if I want a family "treat" meal I go somewhere with fresh, favoursome food made especially for us.

Why do people take their kids somewhere that sells the lowest common denominator of food and call it a "treat" ?

Interesting you should say that about Iceland Minnie mcdonalds no longer operates there (too expensive) I have to say though that the meat we ate in Iceland was the absolute best I have EVER tasted.

ormirian · 13/03/2014 20:48

Hey cigarette! I am fat as a pig atm. Not weighed myself but I'm fairly sure I'd have a BMI in the overweight category for the first time in my life. I don't eat McDonald's.

milkysmum · 13/03/2014 20:50

it is cheap, quick and kids love it. is it crap probably yes. will it kill them noWink

TamerB · 13/03/2014 20:52

It isn't a treat for me- it is for children.

mijas99 · 13/03/2014 20:52

I wish I liked McDs - I love burgers and chips but hate the McDs versions because they taste terrible. Poor quality ingredients cooked badly and injected with sugar

It is a shame that people criticize McDs for being unhealthy rather than for serving food that tastes bad. People who like McDs must eat terribly at home

NinetyNinePercentTroll · 13/03/2014 20:52

I bloody hate ikea and the food always looks heinous. I never understand why folk rave about shitty flat pack and crappo meatballs.

zippey · 13/03/2014 20:55

I love Mcdonalds. I'd eat most food on the menu. It's cheap but tasty and good quality burgers.

mijas99 · 13/03/2014 20:55

Ikea food is awful as well especially the meat balls. Dry shriveled pieces of god knows what that Taste of nothing, hence why it needs the sauce

I would prefer a packed of prawn cocktail crisps and a cherry coke. At least you can taste the chemicals

My parents run a Michelin starred restaurant, I have grown up appreciating good food.

I 'treat' my 3 DC to McDonalds maybe twice a month on average, usually after several hours of swimming on a Saturday.

They enjoy fish fingers and chips and orange juice, I enjoy a chilli chicken wrap.

As others have said it's cheap, quick and fine for an infrequent 'treat'.

ThoughtsPlease · 13/03/2014 21:00

Oh yes and I am a size 6, and all 3 DC are skinny.

We generally eat a very healthy diet.

FreudiansSlipper · 13/03/2014 21:02

I am about 2 stone heavier than I want to be

nothing to do with me liking macdonals, which I have maybe once sometimes twice a month :o

they still put lots of salt on the fries in Italy. A week after eating fantastic food in wonderful restaurants i fancied something that tasted of plastic and the best KFC is in Thailand spicy hot wings yum

sometimes nothing else be quite as satisfying than a big mac meal followed by an apple pie. i do have orange juice, milk or water to drink

"People who like McDs must eat terribly at home"

I'm laughing and sneering at this. Well played.

Grandemama · 13/03/2014 21:04

I consider KFC a treat. I do not like McDonalds. And I agree with dily it depends how often do you eat rubbish fast food.

bobot · 13/03/2014 21:05

Because even though my kids have been there about 4 times in their lives, they love it. It's not a treat for me, I don't like the food, it's overcrowded and noisy. But it's a very rare treat for them, because they've chosen it and they like it. Don't be a pompous arse.

Rommell · 13/03/2014 21:10

^I had a Greggs chicken mayo sandwich. I was not impressed. Not as good I they used to be.^

Do they still do the cheese savoury and bacon baguette? I used to fucking love the cheese savoury and bacon baguette?

Anyway, all of the McDonalds haters on here will maybe be interested to learn that McD's is very big in France (mon dieu!) because they like places where you can eat as a family for not much money.

ZingSweetMango · 13/03/2014 21:15

I do eat terribly at home! maybe that's because I eat with my feet

OrlaNuttin · 13/03/2014 21:24

Might have been said already but my children like a MacDs for something different and the toy! It's a treat for me cos their allergy info is so good that it's one of the only places we can eat out at as a family without me constantly being on edge and keeping one hand on the epipen due to ds's nut allergy.

Excellent news, EatShitDerek. I might just have to take myself to Greggs tomorrow to celebrate that fact. And I do like a nice chewy roll (although it makes me look like a fool who cannot feed herself without chomping when I take one into the staffroom).

Impatientismymiddlename · 13/03/2014 22:06

Orlanuttin - nandos also have a very good allergy policy, they list everything on their website and have a little book (quite a big book actually) that you can ask for when you get into the restaurant with all ingredients listed. There's quite a few things that people with most common allergies can eat on the normal menu, but just make the server aware of the allergies to ensure everything is super safe.

my children like mcdonalds and nandos; I'm a super bad parent Grin

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-381958/Sushi--raw-truth.html

Sushi is not that healthy, it can lower intelligence (but mine is already lowered because I read something from the daily mail)Grin

JapaneseMargaret · 13/03/2014 22:09

People who like McDs must eat terribly at home

Grin

Your logic is truly faultless.

JapaneseMargaret · 13/03/2014 22:16

Sushi is calorific, but it's also yummy.

I'd choose sushi over McDs almost all of the time, likewise home-cooking and fine-dining - being as that, like most humans on earth, I don't live in a pigeon-hole - but you can't beat a burger and fries every now and then.

mijas99 · 13/03/2014 22:25

People who like McDs must eat terribly at home or they wouldn't think that McDs food is a treat. They would think it was tasteless and soggy (which of course it is) and wouldn't even eat it for free

I can't believe I even had to explain that

In some respect food tastes are subjective but some things are bleeding obvious for anybody with taste buds that haven't been condition by cheap frozen food, microwave meals or simple bad cooking

Like I said, I like burger and chips, I even like chicken nuggets, but the ones McDs sell are rank
