to not understand why people consider McDonalds to be a "treat"

TalkinPeace · 13/03/2014 15:22

if I want a family "treat" meal I go somewhere with fresh, favoursome food made especially for us.

Why do people take their kids somewhere that sells the lowest common denominator of food and call it a "treat" ?

OP posts:
Sicaq · 13/03/2014 19:17

I'm even worse OP; I love chicken shops. Had a £3 chicken wings meal on my birthday. It was bloody lovely.

liquidstate · 13/03/2014 19:17

Luckily for me they are just starting to build an Ikea right next door to our local MacDonalds. I just love the Ikea meatballs and salads. Can't wait!

I rarely eat McDs but have had Big Mac cravings through pregnancy but only indulge once a month.

Sicaq · 13/03/2014 19:17

Oh, and I weigh 8 stone, if it matters.

MichaelFinnigan · 13/03/2014 19:19

Can't wait for next weeks 'mumsnet recommends' it'll make a change from expensive cosmetics and frumpy s&b 'finds'

JustOneCuppa · 13/03/2014 19:19

What an unbelievable thread! Snob much?

TSSDNCOP · 13/03/2014 19:21

I absolutely love McDonalds and because its lardtastic I only have it very occasionally so it is a treat.

Sitting in a furniture shop cafe surrounded by sodding tea lights and potted orchids so I can have a bit of smoked salmon and a salad, not so much.

LEM I have done the same for a Big Breakfast Wink

IneedAwittierNickname · 13/03/2014 19:21

MacDonalds chips dipped in ice cream are amazing!

I dont .love mcds, but do enjoy it every so often. Never heard of a gangbang burger though, I'm missing out!

Oh and I'm overweight, obese in fact, but thats because of my medical issues not my occasional big Mac/chicken legend with salsa.

Cuxibamba · 13/03/2014 19:22

We don't have an IKEA in my country Sad

IneedAwittierNickname · 13/03/2014 19:23

liquidstate I wonder if your local mc ds is the same asmy mums? Is it next to Sainsburys? and boots?

formerbabe · 13/03/2014 19:23

My kids love it...I don't really like taking them so limit it to once/twice a month. They really just want the toy that comes with the happy meal!

LynetteScavo · 13/03/2014 19:24

Anywhere you get a toy and no one blinks when spill your drink or splatter ketchup up the wall is a treat for kids.

I absolutely love McDonalds fish burgers and strawberry milkshakes. I regard them as a treat as I know it wouldn't be particularly good for my health to have one every day for lunch.

Luckily I also love fresh fruit and veg and know what's good for me, unlike many, many people who do not regard McDonalds as a treat, but as their work/college canteen.

iklboo · 13/03/2014 19:26

I don't like McDonalds myself but DS & DH do occasionally. While I agree a couple of artisan chocolates or a small piece of cheese is a nice - and maybe cheaper - treat, DS would still be bloody hungry & want a meal after it. He doesn't want anything else after he's had a happy meal.

Cocolepew · 13/03/2014 19:30

McDonalds kept me going when I had hyperemesis, I must have went evetyday for 3 weeks. DD though she'd died and gone to heaven .
I should have got it on prescription.

Cigarettesandsmirnoff · 13/03/2014 19:33

Because fast food joints are not known to walk hand in hand with people with healthy BMI.

It shouldn't be classed as treat because what your putting n your body is utter shit. Treat indicates something good, mac d isn't good. May taste good because it's full of chemicals that tells your brain it's good but the recast of your body is dealing with a total beef dick dinner.

100% beef? What part? Vom!

RedToothBrush · 13/03/2014 19:35

My BMI is healthy.

Thanks for asking.

I hope you don't eat low fat or low sugar anything if you are going on about chemicals.

AgaPanthers · 13/03/2014 19:35

Nothing wrong with beef dicks, actually. Though I don't think McDonalds use them.

WorraLiberty · 13/03/2014 19:39

Treat indicates something good, mac d isn't good.

That's not my definition of a treat at all

To me, a treat is something that you really love and will have occasionally...to errr well treat yourself Grin

Ice cream, sweets, cakes, fizzy drinks are all treats and none of them are particularly good for your health.

Unless eaten in moderation as part of a healthy diet...

RabbitPies · 13/03/2014 19:40

From McDonalds website.

"We only use whole cuts of fore-quarter and flank from approved abattoirs across the UK and Ireland. We have long been recognised for having a first class beef supply chain and all of our beef is traceable, from farm to restaurant. Our burgers are made from 100% beef with nothing added except a pinch of salt and pepper after cooking. We don't use any binders, fillers or trimmings in our burgers."

caruthers · 13/03/2014 19:40

Big Macs are delicious.

The fries are moreish.

Although the coffee is disgusting.

The tip is that it's everything in moderation.

VivaLeBeaver · 13/03/2014 19:40

Mmmm, I've just had a McFlurry.

WorraLiberty · 13/03/2014 19:40

Have you ever wondered where the special sauce comes from? Wink

topknob · 13/03/2014 19:42

Whoever asked, currently 8st and trying to gain weight :) would like to get back to 8st 5lb.

RedToothBrush · 13/03/2014 19:42

100% beef? What part? Vom!

As a matter of interest, which part of a cow is disgusting? We do have a very western sense of what is horrible and what is nice that isn't the same the world over. In some ways you could argue it is better that we don't waste parts of an animal through cultural sensitivities, because the alternative is needing a lot more animals to feed our population.

I might not want to eat X part but to a certain extent, if its like hiding the veg in kids food, its fine. I'm more bothered that its the animal its supposed to be and that it conforms to food safety regulations.

Cigarettesandsmirnoff · 13/03/2014 19:43

No I don't red [smile*

Shockers · 13/03/2014 19:44

I wouldn't see it as a treat either OP, but each to their own.

I had a chickpea and veg curry last time I went to Ikea... delicious and not a sniff of horse.
