To have just shouted at a horse rider outside my house

Have namechanged for privacy.

I am so angry right now. We sometimes (twice a year at most) get horses going past our house as we live around the corner from a small private farm. We live in a city, so it's quite a novelty when we hear the sound of "clip clop" outside.

About 20 mins ago we heard the sound of clip clop and I took DS to the front room to look outside. As we watched the horses go by one stopped and kind of turned around and SHITTED RIGHT OUTSIDE MY DRIVEWAY. Not a small bit...a big arse full of horse shit. And the rider laughed at her other horsey friends.

As soon as I saw it I put my shoes on and ran outside and the rider was going on her way again. Her friends had gone up ahead. I ran up to her shouting "excuse me" and she wouldn't stop. I shouted at her if she was going to clear up the horse poo outside my house and she replied "stop shouting at me" without even turning around to see I had a toddler in my arms.

I couldn't go any further because I was holding my DS and had left a sleeping baby inside.

Now I have a pile of horse shit outside my house, and I want to actually KILL this horse rider. Our road is a school route and I don't want children stepping in it but why the fuck should I have to clear it up? I am so pissed off. I want to get into the car and hunt down the fuckers and pull them back by their ears and tell them to clean it.

You can buy those fold up shovel things.

Maybe Cath kidston could make a nice flowery one.

Shonajoy · 05/03/2014 17:48

Horsepoo CAN be picked up with a bin bag. You don't need a shovel. Horses can be trained to poo on grass or somewhere more suitable.

A motorbike has wider tyres and they're rounded. It's much easier to ride a cycle through mud, and you're also less likely to break yours or a horses leg if you come off.

Shonajoy · 05/03/2014 17:51

Lessmissabs I'm sorry you feel nobody cares. I'm sure you could join in with some relevant debate and you'd be welcomed though, why don't you try it? It just keeps going and going, it's really a very popular thread.

Maybe if you contributed something pertinent instead of attempting to patronise people you'd feel more involved. I am sorry you feel nobody cares but they do.

if there is horse poo in a place where traffic is going to be travelling fast enough and without enough visibility for it to be causing a skid risk, can you even imagine how dangerous it would be for one if not more horses and riders to be stopped there picking up poo?

TillyTellTale · 05/03/2014 17:55

shona Any chance of a youtube tutorial on binbagging horse dung without a shovel?

bigbuttons · 05/03/2014 18:00

we have horse shit all over the roads here. Doesn't bother me.

Dog shit , now that really bothers me

However it pisses me off that horse riders go round giving you dirty looks if you so much as sneeze when they walk past( in case it scares the horses)

usualsuspect33 · 05/03/2014 18:04

Why is it odd that I'm not a horse lover? Confused

usualsuspect33 · 05/03/2014 18:07

Its not odd to not like horse shit.

I haven't called the poor creatures cunts or owt.

bigbuttons · 05/03/2014 18:09

I do find people who ride ride horses pretty entitled anyway, so it's no surprise that they can't be arsed to pick up shit, They probably don't pick up dog shit either.

I've never seen anyone riding a hamster.

Didn't Richard Gere do that? Or was that a gerbil?

usualsuspect33 · 05/03/2014 18:15

Well, you know I am allowed an opinion even if I am a 'townie'

I have no issues with the horses, they don't choose to clip clop along roads do they.

I think if it's possible to pick up the mess your animals make on roads then you should.

I know it's not always possible though, before you start.

SelectAUserName · 05/03/2014 18:16

Horses can be trained to poo on grass

Now I know you're just being deliberately provocative.

songlark · 05/03/2014 18:16

I wouldn't use fresh horse poo in your garden.....it needs to mature or it could burn the plants, you'd need a compost heap.

Horses can be trained to poo on grass?????? How d'ya do that then?

saintlyjimjams · 05/03/2014 18:24

From a biological pov horses are grass eating herbivores - this means they poo a lot - a lot more than carnivores.

JupiterGentlefly · 05/03/2014 18:26

I'll speed it up for you..surely it was a 'joke'?

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 05/03/2014 18:35

Having been chased around villages by local nutters for the audacity of taking my well trained horse out on a public road, I feel rather sorry for the girl you chased, OP. I would have found that intimidating when I was younger (these days the only shit I would freely give would be the one my horse deposited on the road) and I personally find it antisocial behaviour, even without the risk of the horse spooking.

I also find the paranoia about a bit of poo on the road rather odd - either avoid it and prevent your child from jumping in it if it offends you, or accept that it is part of life - rather like puddles, mud and dead leaves in autumn. Few people want to track mud/leaves/puddle water through their homes, hence the common theme of removing one's shoes at the door. Surely the same applies to horse poo? Unlike dog shit, it doesn't smell horrendous.

Perhaps I am just an arrogant toff who expects all the pedestrian pedants to doff their caps to me as I pass by, though... News to me if I am Grin

Such a lot of fuss about nothing.

You have to be fairly unhinged to scream at a teenager on a pony as they pass your house, before getting in your car to follow them, stopping at every possible place to shout some more, while they trot as fast as possible towards home... It was fucking scary, and unacceptable behaviour. If it is intolerant of me to brand them nutters, that is fine by me Smile
