To have just shouted at a horse rider outside my house

BigRedBall · 04/03/2014 13:40

Have namechanged for privacy.

I am so angry right now. We sometimes (twice a year at most) get horses going past our house as we live around the corner from a small private farm. We live in a city, so it's quite a novelty when we hear the sound of "clip clop" outside.

About 20 mins ago we heard the sound of clip clop and I took DS to the front room to look outside. As we watched the horses go by one stopped and kind of turned around and SHITTED RIGHT OUTSIDE MY DRIVEWAY. Not a small bit...a big arse full of horse shit. And the rider laughed at her other horsey friends.

As soon as I saw it I put my shoes on and ran outside and the rider was going on her way again. Her friends had gone up ahead. I ran up to her shouting "excuse me" and she wouldn't stop. I shouted at her if she was going to clear up the horse poo outside my house and she replied "stop shouting at me" without even turning around to see I had a toddler in my arms.

I couldn't go any further because I was holding my DS and had left a sleeping baby inside.

Now I have a pile of horse shit outside my house, and I want to actually KILL this horse rider. Our road is a school route and I don't want children stepping in it but why the fuck should I have to clear it up? I am so pissed off. I want to get into the car and hunt down the fuckers and pull them back by their ears and tell them to clean it.

I am poor as a church mouse atm. DD is the horsey person (I am terrified of riding!) and she has even less money than me! We don't own a horse. She has lessons once a fortnight and helps out at a stables once a week.

muser31 · 04/03/2014 17:11

yabu!

digerd · 04/03/2014 17:11

Horse manure was fought over as neighbours rushed to it with their spades to get there first for their gardens, when I was a young child.
We all had our own fruit and veg plots as it was just after WW2 and had rashioning Grin. YABU

Maybe some adult company, you know, help you maintain a grip on normal social things. Because ranting at someone, well, it's just odd and it will make you stressed for no good reason.

Pipbin · 04/03/2014 17:14

I've just skimmed this thread.
I grew up in the country with horses, cow and sheep being driven up and down the roads.
I remember the local paper would make quite a sport of publishing the letters of the people who had just moved from London complaining about all the horse shit and smell from the farms.

That said, people are saying the horse manure is harmless. I assume someone has mentioned tetanus?

elastamum · 04/03/2014 17:14

OP, you are coming across as just a little bit mad. You need to get out more but obviously not into the countryside

FWIW I have 2 horses. Elastahorse wouldnt bat an eylid if you ran up to her shouting (think big white police horse), but if you did that to elastapony (who is still a baby) she would probably spin round and deposit me on the road beside you, at which point I might call the police on you for causing an accident.

OK, she wasnt very polite, but that is no excuse. Its a really poor example to set your children to see that you deal with problems by running after and shouting at people. Might be a much better idea to speak to the people in the yard and ask politely if they wouldnt mind clearing up after their horses if it is a problem for you.

LessMissAbs · 04/03/2014 17:17

Why should I need a hobby? I have a small baby and toddler and no time for hobbies. I thought it would be fun to see a horse go by. It wasn't

Congrats on your thread though OP!

Troglodad · 04/03/2014 17:17

It will be more fun when you aren't a newbie at horses.

Wait til one of them whinnies unexpectedly, you'll absolutely shit. If you'll pardon the expression.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/03/2014 17:18

"Well I just looked outside and it's gone. Someone's removed it."

I'm too late - I was going to offer to send round my brown Labrador - she loves eating horse poo! Grin

TillyTellTale · 04/03/2014 17:19

Euuuurrrrrrgh... SDTG!

nutcasenan · 04/03/2014 17:20

Only fear I have is that a horse might kick a car. Saw and heard one do just that to a neighbours car.I called after rider who returned. She paid up for the considerable damage the horse had caused. Not the horses fault. The rider rode unnecessarily close to the cars. Road plenty wide enough. Horse poo valuable. Perhaps you could sell it!

racmun · 04/03/2014 17:22

Get a life. The horse didn't dump in your garden. Is the rider meant to carry round a spade etc to pick it up. Horse poo breaks down really quickly anyway and will be gone in a day or so especially if we have some rain.

You could have caused a really bad accident shouting at a horse that is on the road. It could have early bolted and you'd have more than a pile of manure to worry about

RiverTam · 04/03/2014 17:22

'Well I just looked outside and it's gone. Someone's removed it.'

so, that was all a big fuss over nothing.

Most entertaining, though!

Quinteszilla · 04/03/2014 17:22

Around here horse riders pay somebody to walk after them with a shovel and a bin on wheels when they take their horses out. I thought that was the norm?

It is always so fun to see the toff on their horses ride past, heads held high, and some poor person trailing after with the cleaning gear.

BigRedBall · 04/03/2014 17:24

sdtg you can send it around to lick up the left over smears if you want. As long as it doesn't shit whilst licking.

What an amusing thread. The townee OP shouting at the horse to clean up after itself is really a good comic creation.

usualsuspect33 · 04/03/2014 17:27

Plenty of people on here say they rant at dog owners.

They get a round of applause on MN , not told to get a hobby.

When someone started a thread saying they had put dogshit in a womans coat hood she got a bloody standing ovation on here.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/03/2014 17:27

If she did poo, I would pick it up. But I would need a considerably smaller poo bag than the rider would need to carry!

Eurghh is right, Tilly - she is a hound of vile appetites.

Mrsmorton · 04/03/2014 17:28

Because everyone who rides a horse is a toff (trufact) and everyone who owns a pair of ugg boots is a chav (trufact). There are many other "trufacts" available.

muffinino82 · 04/03/2014 17:28

That would piss me off tbh! I don't think horses should be rode on public highway etc as they are not insured etc but that is a whole other thread.

Any sensible horse woner will have their horse insured - both of mine are insured for 3million public liability/accident. You'd have to be a fool not to.

Similarly, I pay tax on my car and horse lorry because that it to do with the emissions. Horses do not get charged 'road tax' because there is no such thing

If someone came ranting at me when I was riding I would probably have ridden away quickly to avoid the nutter, regardless of what they were screaming about. Both of my horses are excellent in traffic, with bikes/dogs/people, the older one hunts so is used to crowds and lots of noise. However someone screaming at them may well have scared them. I once had someone grab the reins of a horse I was riding and it was very scary. I yanked them away and rode off very quickly. I would like to avoid such a situation again. I hadn't done anything that time btw, a man just came up to me talking quite normally then grabbed the reins. I no longer let people I don't know come up my horse when riding out.

TillyTellTale · 04/03/2014 17:30

usual yeah but no but

I mean, try starting a thread complaining about unnecessary exhaust fumes. People would go mad if you claimed you were a carless horse-rider who always picked up your horse-poo, and you asked why so many people thought they needed cars.

Someone should totes do that thread...

TillyTellTale · 04/03/2014 17:31

SDTG Eeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuugh. Bad dog!

UptheChimney · 04/03/2014 17:31

YABVVVVVVVVVVVU

a) it's dangerous to shout at a horse
b) horse manure is brilliant on your garden
c) it's not "dirty" like dogs' droppings: horses don't eat meat, and their manure dries easily and is great for your garden
d) it's rude to shout
