To be slightly glad my DC ('dear' cat) never came home...

Light-hearted, but serious Wink
Since she disappeared 8 months ago I have not had to:

-Cover the worktops, fridge and cupboards with sellotape every night to prevent her sleeping all over them. No cats on worktops.
-Remove all traces of water droplets from around sink - she would lap them. No cats on worktops!
-Keep bathroom door closed so she didn't sleep in the sink/bath.
-Be sad about the nose scratches that appeared weekly on my other cats.
-Close doors to stop her sleeping on the baby.
-Open doors slowly, leading with a foot to stop her rushing through, upstairs and under the bed so that I get to lie flat, wriggle under and drag her out shouting and squirming.
-Tape cardboard and old bits of carpet to the lower half of all the doors I had to close because she scratched and destroyed them.
-Close all windows, even upstairs because she could and would get through them so she could get under the bed, or sleep on the baby.
-Discover poo hoards.

Unsurprisingly I got used to not doing these things quite quickly. If she showed up now, I'd be a little cross quite frankly.

Don't worry, at first I was sad and spent weeks coordinating house checks within a 2 miles radius, 3am night walks to call for her and I stuck a picture of her on top of the fridge so I could tell her off.
But, when I think of the additional work she created and what I have saved buying sellotape, I am afraid I just don't want her back. Unreasonable?!

gordyslovesheep · 03/03/2014 20:20

lovely - she's probably found somewhere nice to live now

bootsycollins · 03/03/2014 20:23

This is gonna go off!

KirjavaTheCat · 03/03/2014 20:24

Very. I'd rather the inconvenience of an untrained cat than see it wandering the street skin and bone, picked up by a dogfighter for bait or hit by a car.

You could have trained her.

But hey, your call.

ExitPursuedTheRoyalPrude · 03/03/2014 20:24

She clearly had issues.

Probably squished by a car.

EatDessertFirst · 03/03/2014 20:25

Err yes. Very.

I lost one of my cats for 5 weeks and was beyond overjoyed when he came back, even though he was emaciated. If she was that much of a PITA you should have taken her to a re-homing place.

Wow OP. I pity your other cats. Though hopefully, this post is just a wind up.

bootsycollins · 03/03/2014 20:26

Seriously though, I hope she's found someone who adores her.

KirjavaTheCat · 03/03/2014 20:26

Ohh but it's ok because you were sad at first Hmm

Shit I'd love for my cat to come home, I think and worry about him every day and he's been gone a year.

AnnaLegovah · 03/03/2014 20:27

Sounds like she just LTB.

Goodadvice1980 · 03/03/2014 20:27

I'm sure the cat is equally as happy to not have such a vile and unloving owner.

Jog on under the bridge dweller ....

WaitMonkey · 03/03/2014 20:27

What a lovely thread. Hmm Hope the cat hard found a loving home.

Anniegetyourgun · 03/03/2014 20:28

Cover the fridge... with sellotape... every night... to stop the cat... um ok Confused

Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2014 20:28

I think she voted with her paws.

LoonvanBoon · 03/03/2014 20:31

I don't think you're entirely serious are you, OP? It sounds like you tried really hard to find her when she first went missing.

When my old cat died years ago, I had some similar feelings. She was 19 & kept weeing everywhere, the house stank & nothing the vet did / gave her seemed to help. She still seemed content so we couldn't bear to have her put to sleep, but there was a definite element of relief when she eventually died.

Can't imagine feeling that way if she'd just disappeared, though. I hate the thought of it, not knowing what happened & imagining her being stuck somewhere. Makes me really sad. We've got a beautiful new rescue cat & I'm not looking forward to letting her out when the time comes because I feel quite anxious about this possibility.

Really hope your cat has found a happy new home.

Gemdar · 03/03/2014 20:32

Yabvu - still miss my cat who never came home 10 years ago

ohhifruit · 03/03/2014 20:33

Meanwhile on Catsnet... "AIBU to feel free now I have left sticky tape hell?"

Sheesh.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 03/03/2014 20:37

Why on earth didnt you just keep her out of the kitchen. Not that i beleive you actually wasted sellotape night after night.

Salmotrutta · 03/03/2014 20:45

I hope she has a nice new owner who appreciates her.

Hmm
harriet247 · 03/03/2014 20:57

So irresponsible. We have recently been kind of forced into taking in a young cat. He showed up a few weeks ago and i avoided feeding him but eventually gave in the nught we had bad storms. He is refusing to leave and has basically adopted us, dont get me wrong, he is lovely and obviously hadnt been stray for long but i have spent weeks looking for his owners, rspca wont take him or cats protection as they are full so its up to us. So much extra cost because somepne couldnt be bothered microchipping him/didnt want him. I couldnt have it on my conscience.
Yabu. You chose to bring him into your home.

usualsuspect33 · 03/03/2014 21:04

I hope she comes back at regular intervals and shits in your garden.

SecretNutellaFix · 03/03/2014 21:07

Maybe she left home to escape from you making her home uncomfortable to live in?

Aeroflotgirl · 03/03/2014 21:11

Sounds like you never really wanted her and she was more of a nusience to you. That's really sad as some people live their pets like they are second family. I do hope she has found a loving home.

Aeroflotgirl · 03/03/2014 21:12

I hope you don't feel this way about your other cats

Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2014 21:15

The poo hoards is a worry. I have never known cats to hoard poo. Where do they put it? Was it stuck to the sellotape? Confused

Lovecat · 03/03/2014 21:15

You sellotaped your counters every night? Shock

What the hell are you on, you madwoman? We had 4 cats, now have 3 (one has gone for an extended wander and we are desperate for her to come back safe) and yes, they will jump on counters, but YOU WASH THEM BEFORE YOU START PREPPING FOOD ON THEM, you NUMPTY!

You seriously spent time and effort and sellotape every night covering them up??? (for the full effect of my indignation, disbelief and horror see here and imagine me saying in that tone of voice - You covered them UP??)

Did you ever find the cat asleep on your baby or is this some kind of paranoia? What would be the problem with the cat being underneath your bed? It'd come out/get bored of the game quite quickly if you were to stop shouting and yelling at it...

Little heaps of poo, yes, not nice, but do you have a litter tray inside?

And, re-reading your OP to find any kind of justification for this quite frankly mental behaviour, you have other cats, yet you have stopped with the sellotaping. Do they not sleep/dance on the counters too? If you think they don't, you are kidding yourself.

MrsBradfield · 03/03/2014 21:16

What a loser op. I hope he/she has found a lovely home, I hope you don't treat your child the same way when they are an inconvienence to you.
