AIBU?

To be slightly glad my DC ('dear' cat) never came home...

Light-hearted, but serious Wink
Since she disappeared 8 months ago I have not had to:

-Cover the worktops, fridge and cupboards with sellotape every night to prevent her sleeping all over them. No cats on worktops.
-Remove all traces of water droplets from around sink - she would lap them. No cats on worktops!
-Keep bathroom door closed so she didn't sleep in the sink/bath.
-Be sad about the nose scratches that appeared weekly on my other cats.
-Close doors to stop her sleeping on the baby.
-Open doors slowly, leading with a foot to stop her rushing through, upstairs and under the bed so that I get to lie flat, wriggle under and drag her out shouting and squirming.
-Tape cardboard and old bits of carpet to the lower half of all the doors I had to close because she scratched and destroyed them.
-Close all windows, even upstairs because she could and would get through them so she could get under the bed, or sleep on the baby.
-Discover poo hoards.

Unsurprisingly I got used to not doing these things quite quickly. If she showed up now, I'd be a little cross quite frankly.

Don't worry, at first I was sad and spent weeks coordinating house checks within a 2 miles radius, 3am night walks to call for her and I stuck a picture of her on top of the fridge so I could tell her off.
But, when I think of the additional work she created and what I have saved buying sellotape, I am afraid I just don't want her back. Unreasonable?!

Speaking from experience people will defend cats to the death... I had a similar first post recently don't worry.

My cat disappeared, she was found dead a few weeks later as she had got lost and starved to death. We buried her in the garden. Hope this doesn't happen to your cat.

Hi rollover.

I do actually 'get' what you meant... but you'd inadvertently broken several massive MN rules!

Rule 1. Don't start a thread in AIBU until you've lurked for at least six months.

Rule 2. See Rule 1.

Yes, quite a lot of us 'know' each other. Mainly as prolific posters do start to stick in the memory, especially if they've got very noticeable usernames, or if they routinely post in a particular style, or have very decided opinions. I'm actually only real-life friends with about three other regulars, but I 'know' at least 30 regulars well enough to do a when I see them on a thread.

Anyway, please don't let tonight's contretemps put you off!

elliebe13 did you get anything sorted with your situation?

Isn't a good spray and wipe down with antibacterial stuff every morning a damn sight quicker than faffing about with sellotape every night?

And yes, I hope your cat has found a happier home. Yours sounds bloody miserable.

OP in relation to your surprise you are clearly incapable of realising how painful it can be when a pet goes missing. You don't know if he or she has been run over and killed or injured or deliberately hurt. One thinks of the worst things like dog fighting. And you expect light hearted , exasperating cat stories in return? Are you really so dense and lacking in empathy?

Clearly you are since you come on here with a stupid "light hearted" comment positively revelling in the fact your cat is missing.

Yes you have radically misjudged. And as for whining about replies being "vile" your post is vile. If I knew you in real life I'd drop you like a stone.

And if you didn't expect a flaming why the name change? I occasionally name change but I'm more than happy to post this under the name I usually use.

Caitlin Do you realise just how dense and lacking in empathy it seems to talk to someone you've never met in the way that you just have?

Caitlin17 · 03/03/2014 23:06

OP was the reply from cosikitty a sufficiently light hearted and exasperating story for you ?

After all an animal starving to death is so hilarious.

Hix I don't want to know the OP. I'm really shocked by anyone who thinks a missing pet is something to joke about.

My Aunty was just the same about my cousin finally leaving home. (At the age of 32.) She wailed for 2 weeks how much she missed him then speedily turned his bedroom into a sewing room.

OP I kind of get what you mean. We had to regime our cats due to DS's allergies and asthma. I was devastated for a bit, but there are plenty of things I don't miss. I don't miss the smell of the food, the litter trays, the cat hair etc.

However when my cat went missing for a couple of weeks it was horrible always wondering what had happened to her, had she been in pain. She did come back eventually, but it would have been awful not ever knowing.

It really does feel on animal threads that there are some people who are beyond reason.

FFS losing an pet is bad, but to say you can never make jokes about it is really freaking extreme.

Hello Mintyy.

I used to be DameDeepRedBetty. Before that I was someone I don't really want to talk about. And before that I was someone else I also don't really want to talk about. And I've been a couple of other usernames too, mostly Christmas namechange competition type ones.

OP explained her username several posts ago.

Looks like Caitlin is having a bad day and letting rip all her frustrations on some person on the internet that she doesn't even know. Very unpleasant.
