to just want to say having a c section for me was a wonderful experience

when i was pg alot of people told me i didnt need a c section, not drs no, they recomended it,due to previos 4th degree tear and birth injury, just aquantances etc
mums on the schol run etc
even though they do not know my medical history

i was told i wouldnt be able to bond sowell etc

but for me and my baby it was a wonderful experience
Calm in control nothing went wrong, he came out pink and crying at 37 weeks
He was placed on me while I was stiched up

Then we spend the whole entire rest of the day, he was born before 10am
Having a massive snuggle in bed skin to skin, the whole day, it was bliss
Really really lovely day

And a very very positive experience for us

in fact i still need to write to the hospital to thank them

anyway it just annoys me that noone ever warns you of the dangers of vaginal birth like i never even knew what a 4th degree tear is
let other things that can go wrong

yes neither way is without risk
i just feel all risks should be pointed out so women are actually making informed decsions

lovely op. so glad all went well.

amazed how other people had the brass neck to 'tell you' what birth you should have.

I think women should have far more choice over birth as long as they are told all the facts.

So nice to read this. My ELCS is next week, im really nervous about it. Luckily noone has been negative to me about it tho.

I had one after three days of induction and one day of labour. It was much appreciated. No issues with bonding or BFing here.

I had emergency the first time, elective the second.
The elective was a wonderful experience- we were well slept the night before, laughing on the way to theatre and DS1 came to visit as planned that afternoon. I recovered very quickly.

I was terrified during my c section and for a few days after didn't look at my scar, I expected to be slit from hip to hip and have large stitchings for some reason. Instead it was just a tiny purple line that's now invisible.

I'm always so grateful when I read of problems people have with loose vaginal muscles or more serious issues that I had dd the way I did. She was a massive baby and her head was huge!

I had 4 cs. The last one in particular was wonderful. Very calm, almost laid back atmosphere, quick recovery, no problems at all bonding (no problems bonding with any of my dc - not sure where people get that from)

With my 4th, everyone was quick to tell me how dangerous it was to have more than three.

They were all good but with DS2 born at 37 weeks he didn't breathe well and spent a week in NICU.

How comes they did yours at 37 weeks - thought they recommended 39 weeks?

But I bonded well with the babies, bf etc etc.

I am thinking of having one after a third degree tear which has left me with some scar tissue. Doctors said I can have vaginal delivery but thinking I don't want any more damage down there. I know people will tell me it is a major op but seriously a third degree tear is no walk in the park.

Me too. Mind was an emergency one (not crash) and I would find it very difficult to even consider a vbac second time around.

Bodicea - I healed and recovered very quickly from my c-sections, much quicker than friends who had 3rd or 4th degree tears.

yeah they dont normally do planned sections at my hospital until 39 weeks

but i had alot of serious health issues so was decided it was safer to deliver him earlier than planned

main reason was obstetric cholesatis, but also had gestational diabetes and other health issues during the pregnancy

mrsc why did you have yoursat 37 too? was it health issues?

i had a bleed at 33 weeks and was admitted for a few days and given steriods as they thought it was possible he would be coming then
they thought the bleed was a harmless cervical errosion

so the fact i had steriods at 33 perhaps helped

Ah yes the steroids would probably have helped - like I know [gleaned all medical knowledge from Dr Ross in ER]

I went into labour so they just did my planned section early. Even though I did feel about a minute's guilt for not having tried for a vbac as it may have stopped the breathing issues, my sensible side took over. My babies have all had big heads and I'm small so pretty sure I'd have ended up with a c-section.

Am so glad it all went well with you diamond - especially after a nasty tear and issues with this pregnancy.

Glad you had a good experience. DS1 was nightmare experience, induction, long labour and keillands forceps followed by tearing, haemorrhage and then recurring infection.

DS2 was elective c section. It was amazing, calm, positive, easy recovery (apart from day 5 when staples were starting to come away). I would heartily recommend it!

I agree with you. I have had two emergency c-sections & one that was planned. The planned one was really lovely & is the only birth I have good memories from. Such a nice atmosphere with all the staff relaxed & chatting, the radio playing in the background.

Bonding was definitely quicker that time as well, as you said, having a whole day to snuggle with your newborn is a wonderful start.

Mine was great too, although it was a bit scary walking in to the operating theatre!

I had a horrendous vaginal birth with my first baby, and the c section was wonderful in comparison. I recovered much more quickly too.

Sounds lovely op. My second CS was similar in that I could hold DS and have lots of lovely skin to skin after a calm section. Mine was at 37 weeks after I went into labour and they brought forward my section as well.

I had an elective section after a previous hideous birth experience, it was fabulous, I have no idea why people are so scathing about c sections.

Glad you had a positive birth experience. Tbh I actually think those that have c section are braver than me, the whole being cut open fills me with utter fear.

Love this thread. DD was born after 24 hour labour, mid cavity forceps with NO epidural and she ended up with a fractured clavicle.

I swear that I couldn't walk for 6 weeks and standing for long periods was painful for over a year. My mum who had been an advocate of VBs said that she couldn't stand seeing me in so much pain.

DS was born at 8:30 in the morning at 39 weeks in a planned c-section. The most wonderful, life affirming experience rver. I will never forget that glorious moment and that lovely day of sitting in bed with his pink little body against mine.

I have had three comments since: "it's so nice to meet someone who doesn't feel guilty about a section"
"you took the cheats way out"
"my wife is a real and brave woman, you just couldn't hack it"
Comment 1 was I think well meaning and comments 2 and 3 were "jokes".

I don't bloody care, I loved my section and the recovery was nothing compared to my first birth.

Note to any mums contemplating a vaginal birth, please don't be put off by my experience, everyone is unique and there are lots of women who would describe a VB in the way that I have described my section.
