to just want to say having a c section for me was a wonderful experience

diamondlizard · 01/03/2014 17:15

when i was pg alot of people told me i didnt need a c section, not drs no, they recomended it,due to previos 4th degree tear and birth injury, just aquantances etc
mums on the schol run etc
even though they do not know my medical history

i was told i wouldnt be able to bond sowell etc

but for me and my baby it was a wonderful experience
Calm in control nothing went wrong, he came out pink and crying at 37 weeks
He was placed on me while I was stiched up

Then we spend the whole entire rest of the day, he was born before 10am
Having a massive snuggle in bed skin to skin, the whole day, it was bliss
Really really lovely day

And a very very positive experience for us

in fact i still need to write to the hospital to thank them

anyway it just annoys me that noone ever warns you of the dangers of vaginal birth like i never even knew what a 4th degree tear is
let other things that can go wrong

yes neither way is without risk
i just feel all risks should be pointed out so women are actually making informed decsions

I have had two c-sections and was running up and down the stairs a week later. Sections rock! Wouldn't dare say that in public though as I know it would start a big kerfuffle :)

usuallyright · 01/03/2014 18:27

I've had 3 vaginal deliveries. All my friends who had sections had positive experiences. All of them recovered quicker than I did after my first birth (episiotomy stitches don't always heal as well as c section stitches, it seems), all of them were up and about faster than they thought and they didn't have any of the fear and anticipation 2nd and 3rd time around, which I did (massively) Natural birth hurts like a bastard.

IHaveSeenMyHat · 01/03/2014 18:33

Having had a 3rd degree tear I think natural birth is overrated and want a section next time. I'm pretty sure recovering from abdominal surgery will be a walk I'm the park compared with having my perineum reconstructed Wink

Yama · 01/03/2014 18:34

I've had two. My Mum has had four. She is almost 70 and has (as yet) had no adverse effects of having them.

I think Usuallyright is right about not having the fear and anticipation in the run up to birth. I am so glad I didn't have that anxiety during my pregnancies.

DilysMoon · 01/03/2014 18:38

I had an emergency cs after long labour no progress, stuck baby etc, recovered well no problems or bonding issues.

Had unexpected vaginal delivery with 2nd, again no problems with bonding etc but recovery took a lot longer than with section and tbh things were never the same again there.

Yanbu and glad you had such a lovely experience Smile

ukatlast · 01/03/2014 18:38

YANBU couldn't agree more. Elective C-Section can be a lovely experience...mine was.

icanmakeyouicecream · 01/03/2014 18:40

YANBU, done it twice was a breeze both times.

hazeyjane · 01/03/2014 18:41

Personally my elcs was the worst of 3 births (first 2 had 3rd degree and 2nd degree tears with complications).

The cs was traumatic, and painful and ds was in nicu when he was born with severe respiratory distress, I didn't get to hold him for days. It took a long time for me to recover, physically and mentally, and I remember thinking that I had read so many positive threads on mn about elcs, that I must be doing something wrong!

I know that they can be wonderful experiences, and I know that vaginal births can be awful (having had 2 pretty awful vbs!), but just incase you didn't or don't have a good experience with elcs - then you're not alone!

colleysmill · 01/03/2014 18:43

I'm just home from hospital today having had an elective section, first time I had an emergency section due to baby distress.

We were talking about it in the car on the way home - it was a really positive experience second time round, I was so scared for my eldest the first time and we had lots of unrelated complications afterwards leading to a weeks hospital stay after.

This time baby was fine, i had a few post op issues but nothing like last time. The actual section was so calm and the theatre staff so welcoming and funny (although try laughing under a spinal - v hard!) I am really pleased with the whole experience

mootime · 01/03/2014 18:50

I've also had three ELCS after my first son died as a result of a birth accident at a home birth.

My ELCS were calm and quick and like the OP I then got to spend the rest of the day snuggled up with my lovely babies.

It's not how they arrive that's important, it's that they arrive safe and well.

Showy · 01/03/2014 18:52

I have had two emcs. I was very traumatised by the first but this was nowt to do with the cs. The 31hr labour, 8hrs of pushing, 3 x ventouse attempts, manual rotation attempt, extensive episiotomy and distressed baby caused that. Second was an emcs again but only because we could see things were going the same way (baby stuck in deep transverse arrest). It was the most positive, calm and painless experience. I healed quickly, never needed painkillers and it was a joyous day. A cs is not the poor cousin of a vaginal birth and while I felt a failure after the first emcs and endured some 'easy way out' comments, I can confirm that a cs can be a wonderful experience.

Soupqueen · 01/03/2014 18:53

I had an EMCS after 3 day induction and a day of labour (snap mrsterrypratchett!).

I recovered well but did have problems bonding and breastfeeding. I don't put that down to the section though, more that I was thoroughly exhausted, to the point of hallucinating, after the preceding 3 days.

If I do it again, I'd have an ELCS in a heartbeat.

MrsCampbellBlack · 01/03/2014 18:55

The 'easy way out' and 'too posh to push' comments are just too irritating. I always laughed at them but then would say well, I'd have died in childbirth if I hadn't had a c-section. That seemed to shut people up Wink

Mootime - I'm so sorry for your loss.

PK1975 · 01/03/2014 18:57

Nope. Mine was fab Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/03/2014 18:57

I can't compare as I've only had a CS, not a VB but for me it was a wonderful experience and I have no regrets. We're planning another and I will fight tooth and nail for another section.

PiratePanda · 01/03/2014 18:58

Had one too, after 4 days of pretty bloody awful "latent" labour. My CS was awesome, no trouble bonding or breastfeeding.

Retropear · 01/03/2014 19:01

Both of mine were fab.

I was up and about long before the VB mums on my ward too.

Edendance · 01/03/2014 19:25

My very 'earth mothery' friend had an emergancy CS and raved about how good it was afterwards, said she'd definitly have one another time, I was amazed!

Mintyy · 01/03/2014 19:27

Yanbu.
My second (elective) c-section was a wonderful, happy and uplifting experience. I am so grateful that I got the chance to have a positive birth after the near-catastrophe which was dd's birth.

Lambzig · 01/03/2014 19:33

Both of mine were lovely, relaxing and positive experiences.

Potol · 01/03/2014 19:39

Loved loved loved mine. I will also ask for another if possible. It was calm and chilled. I had a chat with the surgeons and the anaesthetists about favourite restaurants and the cricket score. One of the surgeon's partner it turned out worked with my husband at another hospital. Had no trouble bonding. Breastfed for a year. In 3 weeks I was up and away on public transport in London. It was all remarkably stress free. I genuinely don't care what people think of how DS came into the world.

WinterHasRuinedMyFace · 01/03/2014 19:47

Mine was awesome too! Everyone told me I was mad for wanting one, but it went exactly as expected/planned. The too posh to push comments were replied to with "no, too terrified to tear."

MrsJ12 · 01/03/2014 20:03

YANBU

I also had a 4th degree tear and have had complications so have been told next time has to be a C section. It gets so much bad press that post like this are reassuring

herecomesthsun · 01/03/2014 20:10

csections save the lives of so many mums and babies. NV deliveries would have been great but as long as there's a healthy baby what does anything else matter, thank God for medical science

JammyPodger · 01/03/2014 20:17

YANBU. I had a natural birth, labour was mostly fine until it came to the bloody tearing and stitches that followed. If I have any more I would try for a section. It makes me cringe to think of damaging the scar tissue again.
