Dp has just got in a major shitty as a conversation about weight has lead to me saying ( factually) he is obese. Ok his BMI is around 32 but he has walked out the room angry.
To be fair he has always been larger, tall, big frame, physical job, so a BMI slightly over weight no big deal. But am I BU to mention his current stats make him obese when talking about it?

I get that.

But "Obese" is a different level from "overweight"

I hazard a guess it is quite rare for people to be classed as "Obese" who have virtually no (or low) body fat and are all muscle. Yes, maybe olympic athletes (though most are not huge, not even in muscle) or this famous professional rugby players.

But most people classified as "obese" are not rugby players.

my awesome scales measure percentage of body fat
a 'pinch' is useful for identifying fat too

sadly, fit and overweight can go together - watch those tummies on the london marathon

Has he put on a lot of weight since you got together 18 months ago? Because that's not a very long time.

Stating the obvious is quite annoying.

I have died blond hair and wear make up, several years ago my dh told me he preferred natural looking girls. I responded and told him I prefer healthy weight men (he is probably bmi 32ish). He was completely shocked that I would respond like that. He has never commented since.

If your aim was to force him to loose weight out of shame or out of shock tactics, then I think that is pretty cruel. Either accept him as he is or leave him. While he might be obese, he seems to be just borderline so (given the muscle mass), therefore you are being unreasonable.

Good for you loosing weight, but you are not the weight police.
