to still want to slap this woman?

A few years ago I was out with a bunch of friends and a few other women I didn't know, who all seemed to be in their own little group. They all seemed lovely, although the group I didn't know were decidedly orange tanned.
Then one of them made a beeline for me, not even a 'hello' or introduction, and comes out with "Wow! You could be really pretty if you had a tan!"

Cue laughing from the rest of us (especially seeing as with my very pale skin and very ginger hair I'd look a bit ridiculous) and it became a bit of a long-running joke over the years between my friends and I.

Walking down the street the other day and this woman marches straight up to me and with a sympathetic concerned look says "Oh, you really need a bit of bronzer or something darling, you're so pale I thought you had cancer!" I was so shocked and Confused that she'd walked off before I had a chance to reply or even register it was the same woman from a couple years ago.

AIBU to want to hose down this Oompa Loompa and slap the rest of the orange off her face whilst screaming "STFU YOU STUPID BITCH"?

Wow.. What a delight! Yanbu to want to slap her silly, but don't do it.

FlockOfTwats · 23/02/2014 20:25

"Id quite like a tan yes, but in worried the bottled stuff would leave me the same colour as you"

YouTheCat · 23/02/2014 20:25

Next time you see her ask her how Willy Wonka is doing. Grin

parakeet · 23/02/2014 20:25

Bizarre. She seems unhinged. No one normal would think this.

FlockOfTwats · 23/02/2014 20:25

I'm*

jammygem · 23/02/2014 20:25

Also, just to make clear -I have nothing against (fake) tans but this woman is very very orange and I'm rather proud of my pasty English rose looks Wink

It was the same woman?! Shock

The cancer comment is completely unnecessary, how rude Angry

Might be a bit much to slap her, though Grin

NoArmaniNoPunani · 23/02/2014 20:26

The same woman? Or two different ones?

BlackDaisies · 23/02/2014 20:28

Wow! She was incredibly rude [shocked] It would have left me speechless too.

MrsMoon76 · 23/02/2014 20:29

I live in Ireland and you "can't go out without a bit of tan". Drives me mad. I have never worn it and am quite comfortable with my skin colour thanks.

I cannot believe she said you looked like you have cancer. What a bitch.

If you see her again do remember to point out how ugly fake tan is.

jammygem · 23/02/2014 20:29

Definitely the same woman - it did take a moment for it to click though.

I don't think she recognised me, which means she potentially just goes up to strangers in the street spouting this crap.

I have a friend who always goes on about how I need a darker shade of foundation as mine is too light. It matches my skin tone perfectly. Admittedly it's double wear which shows up very white in pictures. She uses a wash off fake tan that just makes her look a bit dirty really Grin

NoArmaniNoPunani · 23/02/2014 20:36

I can't imagine living somewhere so small that you could encounter a stranger after a few years and recognise her

jammygem · 23/02/2014 20:42

The town I live in isn't that small, but she's always stuck in my mind after becoming a bit infamous for her first comment on that night out. I did a bit of facebook stalking searching and it's definitely her.

OP posts:
scarletforya · 23/02/2014 20:49

She sounds stupid. Ignore!

formerbabe · 23/02/2014 20:59

I love fake tan! It isn't necessarily 'ugly' as someone described it. I am so naturally pale (blue) without it! I am not orange by the way!

The woman sounds like an absolute cow by the way!

I do hate it when people slag off fake tan though...better to fake it than risk skin cancer.

gamerchick · 23/02/2014 21:03

I tan really 'well'.. I got a 'lovely' colour apparently. But I'm the one who will take great pains in the sun, not to catch the sun.. I feel self conscious it's horrible.

Tell her you want to stick her under a UV light.. so bad.....

Hassled · 23/02/2014 21:04

If you've found her on FB I'm sure there are only a few more hours of stalking left before you have her address. Then post her multiple packets of Wotsits.

queenofthemountains · 23/02/2014 21:05

"Pale is chic" is what me and my mate used to say when we were very pale teenagers. I still say it now if anyone tells me I look pale.

jammygem · 23/02/2014 21:05

Hassled I think you owe me a new keyboard after making me snort tea over mine Grin

The poor soul is obviously mentally ill. She should be pitied. Sad

Caitlin17 · 23/02/2014 21:30

I've never had a tan. I don't think they are at all attractive.

canyourearme · 23/02/2014 21:31

Ignore...really not worth it.

PotentiallyLethalMarshmallow · 23/02/2014 21:32

Maybe she works for the local tanning parlour?

canyourearme · 23/02/2014 21:32

Ps i went to a make up party once, girl hosting camd up to me and said you have very oily skin. Hence to say, no sale
