bingo what, mn would love it is pro rugby players bought in so much cash to the uk

Yonineedaminute · 21/02/2014 20:37

Don't most clubs (and very large companies) work in debt?

Yonineedaminute · 21/02/2014 20:39

Well, people always have a lot to say about greedy bakers and most of them are not 'working class'.

Yonineedaminute · 21/02/2014 20:40

Bankers not bakers!

HighlanderMam · 21/02/2014 20:43

Can I just add you OP, are greedy for using so many question marks and exclamation marks.

Does my nut in that.

Grin
Bornin1984 · 21/02/2014 20:44

Apologies Thanks

I'm a bi disappointed in this thread. I thought it was going to be;

To think that Wayne Rooney is ...

... a balding twat.

In which case, YANBU.

HighlanderMam · 21/02/2014 20:45

Accepted Wink

YouStayClassySanDiego · 21/02/2014 20:45

ManU have such worldwide appeal and a huge fanbase they can confidentially take on massive debt, such is the brand.

Anyone who can command and get this wage, I'm not angry at him, who would be?

DonnaDishwater · 21/02/2014 20:54

Actors and musicians have been earning crazy money for years, so why are footballers so reviled for doing so?

LaGuardia · 21/02/2014 20:57

Good luck to him. YABU.

ohmymimi · 21/02/2014 20:57

Overpaid and overhyped. I gave up watching the Premiership and supporting our sorry excuse of a national team years ago.

Lottiedoubtie · 21/02/2014 21:00

I cannot believe only ONE poster has made that excellent point about Rooney struggling to make money on the after dinner speaking circuit... What's wrong with you all?

YouStayClassySanDiego · 21/02/2014 21:04

YeahGrin like Wayne needs to make money on the after dinner circuit.

Lottie sorry was that sarcasm?

JCDenton · 21/02/2014 21:08

Doesn't Adele make almost as much purely from royalties these days? No thread about her.

Will Smith made $100 Million from Men In Black 3.

And for some reason, it usually only footballers that get this sort of outcry.

WitchWay · 21/02/2014 21:10

It would take me six years to earn what he earns in a week & I think I'm pretty well-paid!

VulvaBeaker · 21/02/2014 21:13

YABU.

Anyone who would not take hundreds of thousands of pounds a week to play their favourite game instead of doing a proper job, is an idiot - even if you felt moved to give it to the poor that's still millions of pounds a year they wouldn't otherwise get.

Mintyy · 21/02/2014 21:16

Yanbu. It makes me absolutely sick. It actually makes me feel kind of despairing, tbh.

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 21/02/2014 21:50

I do think that the salaries paid to certain sectors of our society are obscene amounts but if they're offered it, who would refuse, whether sportsplayers, actors, musicians or the like.

What I actually rage against though is those, like footballers and other media figures, who are paid into trust funds and offshore companies and who therefore don't pay the same taxes and dues pro rata back into society. The high earners pay far less pro rata than low or middle earners on PAYE.

Rooney, I think is very over rated and overpaid, but that's a subjective view.

SignoraStronza · 21/02/2014 21:52

DH would have finished that sentence with "... spud faced prozzie botherer."

Lottiedoubtie · 21/02/2014 22:12

Yeah like Wayne needs to make money on the after dinner circuit.

Lottie sorry was that sarcasm?

Was it really not obvious? Grin

longfingernails · 21/02/2014 22:18

I detest football. But good luck to him.

It's capitalism, pure and simple - the greatest economic system in the history of the world.

Bahhhhhumbug · 21/02/2014 22:23

Cant stand him. He always comes across as a petulant little brat to me . Like that time he was whinging at the England fans when they were booing the teams awful performance. These people had probably spent a few months wages in some cases to come and watch him and his teammates. Alright for him taking the higher moral ground on his ridiculously high wages when people expressed disappointment after wasting such a big chunk of theirs.
I think you can guess which side of fence I am on Hmm.

prh47bridge · 21/02/2014 22:27

I don't think any premiership club is in the black.

You are wrong. Quite a few are profitable. Manchester United's most recent results showed a profit of £146M from total revenue of £363M. So the "they generate income" argument is definitely not crap.

ComposHat · 21/02/2014 22:31

No one seems to gets tgeir knickers in a twist over what golfers, formula one drivers or film stars earn. Then formula one drivers don't tend to come from the arse end of Croxteth do they?
Pesky footballers not knowing their place.
