Oh I'm sure my parents will say that what he is being paid is obscene whilst simultaneously paying a ridiculous amount of money each month for the full sky sports package Hmm

Dollslikeyouandme · 21/02/2014 20:04

What I do think is that as they are paid so much and idolised so much they should at least set a good example to young people by not shagging prostitutes behind their wives backs.

joven · 21/02/2014 20:05

Maybe footballers do have a very small window of earning a lot of money, but when you factor in all the advertising endorsements as well as the personal appearances and after dinner speaking as well as the actual playing, they don't actually need a very big window

Those generally only apply to elite footballers, who don't need the extra money. Realistically you could retire after 4 weeks of Rooney's contract and live very comfortably. If he sees the contract out its worth about £60m over the 4 years.

A lot of lower level footballers (league one and below) don't earn enough to retire on though.

IamInvisible · 21/02/2014 20:07

My kids really like Wayne Rooney for his footballing talents. They aren't interested in the fact that he has shagged prostitutes, tbh. IMO it is not Wayne Rooney's responsibility to set a good example to my children, it's mine and DH's.

nancy75 · 21/02/2014 20:08

i don't think he should shag prostitutes behind his wife's back even if he only gets paid 50p a week - money has nothing to do with that

southeastastra · 21/02/2014 20:09

i often wonder if mn would have the same views on footballers wages if it applied to rugby or tennis professionals Grin i doubt it!

FloppyPoppyCocky · 21/02/2014 20:11

Offer your services for a mere 50k a year if you like. I'm sure Man U would snap you up.

IamInvisible · 21/02/2014 20:11

I don't object to any sports person earning high salaries south. I love rugby, I've got it on now, but the fact is it doesn't drag in the sort of money football does so the clubs can't pass it on to their players.

Bornin1984 · 21/02/2014 20:11

Thing is whether they are a footballer or a actor or a dancer or any "famous" professional,
Children aspire to be like an idol! And if they cheat regardless of man or woman then are then not somebody who respects their partner or their family or lack something from their life, then is that somebody you really want your child to aspire to be like?

I cant find an exact figure but i believe Andy Murray earned around £47 million last year

Yonineedaminute · 21/02/2014 20:15

What I do think is that as they are paid so much and idolised so much they should at least set a good example to young people by not shagging prostitutes behind their wives backs.

Very true!

I do agree that it's not really rooney's fault if his employers want to pay him such an obscene amount of money.

I save more ire for little pricks like Ashley Cole who shamelessly told the world in his autobiography (presumably because he thought he would get sympathy) how cross he was when Arsenal would only offer him £55,000 a week Shock

Bornin1984 · 21/02/2014 20:15

Feck me!!! Some upside down salaries being bantered around in this
World at the moment!!!

Pumpkinpositive · 21/02/2014 20:15

I can't abide the little toad. He gives me the dry boak. But how in tarnation is he "greedy", OP? Would you rather the money went into the back pockets of the board of directors? For all you know he may donate a high percentage of his wages to aging prostitutes good causes.

There's no way is knock back that kind of money were some idiot willing to give it to me. Any pangs of conscience could be easily assuaged by a sizeable donation here and there.

IamInvisible · 21/02/2014 20:18

Oh give over Bornin. It's the parent's job to teach their children about respect and morals not a footballer's or pop star's or ballet dancer's!

ilovesooty · 21/02/2014 20:18

I can't see Rooney having much of a career as an after dinner speaker. Grin

nancy75 · 21/02/2014 20:18

Andy Murray doesn't earn a salary - who do you think he is employed by? :)

Chottie · 21/02/2014 20:19

I suppose I am a a bit envious, I cannot think of a single thing I could do for which anyone would pay me 300,000 pounds a week :) well anyone in their right mind!

Costacoffeeplease · 21/02/2014 20:22

I think it's obscene

YouStayClassySanDiego · 21/02/2014 20:26

Good luck to Rooney.

Players didnt determine massive wages, that came with tv deals giving clubs massive earning piwer.

ManU can afford such players, if he can negotiate deals through his agent, then why not.

It's an obscene amount of money which Iwouldn't decline.t

LucilleBluth · 21/02/2014 20:27

Is it because he's working class OP, doesn't he deserve to be adored and paid handsomely for his skills that bring joy to millions of fans the world over........ has he risen above his station.

Bornin1984 · 21/02/2014 20:29

Isn't Man U heavily in debt so realistically how can any of wages be afforded ?

DarlingGrace · 21/02/2014 20:32

Premier league .... 20 x 11 first team players .... in reality thats 20 x 22 players... care to try and name all 220 of them, or all 440 of them? Then wonder how they are all commentating on every match every week?

2beornot · 21/02/2014 20:36

There's debt and there's debt. They are earning enough to service the debt so no worries.

I am in debt to the tune of £140k as are most mortgage holders but can still spend what I want!

HighlanderMam · 21/02/2014 20:36

Greedy? Not sure about that, but he is a massive twat.

Yonineedaminute · 21/02/2014 20:36

Aaaaand the working class thing has been brought up - bingo!
