Oh Athos. My god. That voice. This is getting BAD. I've never had it this bad before!!

Being serious for a moment (and assuming this does get moved to Telly Addicts and not Leather/Sword Porn Addicts) last night's was the best episode yet but I'm still disappointed overall. I really wanted to love it. It's not literary preciousness because I haven't read the book. There's too much tell rather than show in the script - people reciting large chunks of plot to each other like they're in an opera. All the back stories are being introduced far too early before we really want to boff care about the characters enough. There's too many moments where they hang out somewhere for a while without it really being obvious why and then somebody trips over A BIT OF PLOT which makes it all right again. And they introduce a new setting/villain/peril every week rather than following up on any previous ones or giving the main characters much time to interact with each other. These are such great characters, and good actors, and such a classic setting, it seems a shame the writers/director weren't content to just point the camera at the main half-dozen people for an episode and see what happened between them.

Plus if I hadn't seen Dogtanian I would have no idea what D'Artagnan is doing tagging along with these people anyway like some tragic groupie. What does he want and is he progressing towards it? And why is Treville happy to brief this Gascon randomer off the street with secret missions? There seemed to be about thirty seconds of jeopardy in ep 1 when it seemed like he wouldn't necessarily get along with the musketeers and wouldn't prosper in Paris, then they're all suddenly best mates.

The lack of depth is irritating.
It got ripped to shreds by reviewers, and to be fair, that's hardly surprising, because it is really weak in many many areas.

There is no plot or depth and could be so much more, but then at the same time, it's Sunday night, I just want to flop in front of the TV with a glass of wine and not have to use my brain before the chaos of Monday morning begins

One thing I do like about it is that each episode is a complete story in itself so you don't have to try and remember who's who, or what the heck is going on and it doesn't matter if you miss one - I find I'm not great with series that require me having to follow it, I get bored easily - I gave up on Game of Thrones, I got bored, missed a few, people were dying all over the place and I didn't have a clue what was going on half the time
