To be concerned about national unrest in a post-referendum Scotland?

So I live in Scotland, I am Scottish., we know it's coming one way or another, but the main thing that worries me is what happens AFTERWARDS? This is going to be very close possibly I guess around 50/50. Either way this means that 50% of the country are going to be hugely unhappy with the result and this is absolutely bound to lead onto to trouble.

What plans are in place to make sure and ensure that we won't have to face some ugly demonstrations and some nasty situations? People feel very strongly about this either way and it can not be denied that strong feeling and politics don't mix well.

This is a serious question so I really don't want to be shot down please.

Don't worry. Salmond has a magic money tree so whichever way the vote goes, the drinks are on him. Everyone will be too pished to create civil unrest.

I suppose James McAvoy is someone Glasgow can claim as their most current heart throb, but he doesn't really do it for me, he's a bit too peely wally.

James McAvoy is a smurf, I met him in a bar once.

Beautiful man though.

I think it's more likely that should those voting "yes" lose, they'll be more likely to be pissed off at Cameron for forcing a referendum on independence rather than Devo Max than their fellow Scot.

The maudlin feeling will quickly be dispelled by drink, draping arms around shoulders & jumping along to Proclaimers songs.

I'm in England. Do you good Scottish people know what will happen if you vote yes? Is there any information on the implications, timescales etc?

every Scot I've spoken to falls about laughing at this question and says there's no information at all.

how do you know what you are voting for?

how do you know what you are voting for?

There's guesstimates out there, but believing them is scaremongering, pathetic bullying etc.

how do you know what you are voting for?

We don't. It's a joke.

The only certainty is that if we vote yes, we will get the gvt in Holyrood that we vote for in future. If we vote no, we will continue to be ruled remotely, by gvts over whom we have very little say.

How do scots receive information?Same as you do I expect
Eg.internet, print media, radio,tv,talk to peers.theres a dearth of coverage and info
cant move for James naughtie discussing devolution or Jackie burd enunciating devolution

*Scots aren't prone to violence.

Tell that to the London Underground who had to clear up the tube trains in the seventies when they were playing football down here.

And how can you say you have little say over governments when the last Labour governments seemed to be overpresented by Scots politicians, if anything? Blair, Brown, Reid, Robin Cook, Darling, etc, etc.

Or Brian Taylor looking as though he's about to have a heart attack. I genuinely worry for that man's health.

It's a bit like someone expecting a yes or no answer to

"do you want meat for your tea?"

No telling whether it's raw or cooked; offal or what!

What happened I went away talking about gingers, kilts, commando men and Kevin Bridges and come back to the serious side.

Are there not enough threads for debate already? Sad

Oneglass, there may be prominent politicians in Westminster who are Scots. That doesn't mean that Scots influence the outcome of general elections, we don't.

There's a 650 page document called "Scotland's Future" which every household can get a hard copy of and/or you can download a PDF.

It does answer questions as to timescales, passports etc. Some of the assumptions may be questionable but it does provide a vision as to what the present administration would aspire to. Remember though that if the Scots vote Yes, there would be further elections and the Greens, Labour and even the Tories might be revitalised. It would however be the SNP, as the current administration who did the negotiating.

It doesn't matter where the Govt is, there will always be people who don't get what they voted for. That is nowhere near a good enough reason to vote 'yes' though - you've got to know what you're voting for, and at the moment the SNP have come up with fuck all of substance and lots of whingeing and whineing about 'bullying' - which is making them look more and more foolish, and incapable of governing, as the weeks go by.

Look, Labour are probably going to get in at the next election and manage the split if there is one.

They have strong links with Scotland and will be desperate to hang onto power there.

They will give Scotland massively favourable terms at the expense of England.

I think unrest in England is far more likely.

A cursory google and I could give examples of recent football violence in England
There were inner city riots in England 2011, none in Scotland
What's your point?

David Tennant - Paisley, but close enough.

Gerard Butler went to Glasgow Yooni.

Scotland's Future is nothing more than a wish list from a bunch of incompetents - it's a laughable waste of paper (or screen, depending how you're looking at it)

I think I'll go for Robert Carlyle, he's short of course, but he's more my type than Gerard or David.
