To roar at dh when he said....

After I did a tesco order today and asked everyone what they'd like on the order, and planned the menu for the week and ordered it....

DS asked me tonight, shall I make shepherd's pie tomorrow night?

I said, with what?

He said, oh, could you add it to the order?

Gah!! I have actually planned meals for this week.

Aibu to think this is insane and not v helpful?.

If it was a keen 8yr old it would make a difference as to whether the OP was being unreasonable to roar at him. Which is the question asked.

DS2 is 27 and is very good at meal planning. He is the Master of the Shopping List. These things are too important to leave to an absent-minded mother.

YABU to roar. An icy stare and a quiet "No. The order has already gone" would probably have had more effect. As it is he's probably thinking "I expect it's the hormones".

Someone offered to cook dinner. Add the ingredients and a bottle of wine and tell them to pour you a glass while you wait. I think you are being a but u tbh - unless of course you are on the tightest of weekly budgets and this is the difference between buying calopol for your tiny with earache and eating.

If the order hadn't gone then surely a quick rejig is possible

If the order had gone then a polite 'I've not ordered for shepherds pie, it's xxxx tomorrow - you can make that instead if you'd like' would work surely.

Doubt he'll be offering again any time soon.

YABU. It's never acceptable to roar shouting at your family, certainly not over a supermarket shop.

Not really the point but I can amend my online orders until 11pm the night before delivery.
Tbh I'd probably just swap it out and enjoy a nice pie with the possibility of a warm lunch too.

Yabu to roar, yanbu to be pissed off if it's another in a long line of helpful things that are anything but.

actually if my ds offered to make shepherd's pie tomorrow, I would send him to the shops to get the ingredients and sit back and enjoy!

Sorry!! Typo in title - dh not DS. DS is 6 so him making shepherd's pie would be amazing.

And ok, I didn't roar. I did Hmm instead. Sorry!

And it's the fact that he knew I'd done the order today, because I asked everyone at lunch for things to add to it, that makes me go Hmm. What does he think I put on the order if not things for tea?

Anyway, thanks. Will add stuff for the pie and he can make it!!

it's weird.. I asked the husband what he wanted tomorrow and he fancys shepherds pie. Must be a thing in the air.

Get him to add the ingredients to the list and then enjoy the meal!

well, I don't think you were BU in that he should have been more on the ball.
On the other hand I say to dh, can you cook on day x and y, what do you want me to buy when I do the shopping. He adds it to list, if he doesn't put it I don't buy it, his problem on day x when he doesn't have what he wants!

Dh doesn't do any of the online food shopping - because he doesn't know how. Well, guess what, i wasn't born knowing how to do it either!
