Definitely no class system approach in the one near me. And yes, the reductions are wonderful! I find them cheaper than Sainsburys (we have the choice btwn the two supermarket locally) and far cheaper than the Co-op.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 16/02/2014 09:50

I like Waitrose, don't have a big one and I get it delivered.

I also like lidl,, aldi and tesco.

I can get everything I want in one shop from waitrose and it's often cheaper than tesco.

whats4teamum · 16/02/2014 10:01

Today we are having a £25 leg of lamb reduced to £9 from waitrose.

I prefer waitrose as I don't come out of the store wanting to punch someone like I do when I've been in the hellhole that is asda. I like lidl too and it seems to have the same people in it as waitrose.

Oh, I love Morrisons! have you seen all the cheese they have, it's brilliant, soo much better than Tesco. And things like 25 gingerbread men reduced to £1. or something like that

oliviaoctopus · 16/02/2014 11:21

I think it is quite posh, but then I am incredibly unposh.

I suspect it is all relative.

oliviaoctopus · 16/02/2014 12:24

Ours is in the opposite all the social housing. Its definitely not posh.

Southeastdweller · 16/02/2014 12:25

I also agree about the inverse snobbery on this thread. There's always quite a diverse group of people in the branches I go to.

LadyMaryLikesCake · 16/02/2014 12:27

I don't like Tesco, they are taking over the world and forcing smaller shops out of business by undercutting them (not to mention their ethics regarding their suppliers). There's a large one in Beeston and a Sainsbods but I like Waitrose.

There's a teny tiny Waitrose in Nottingham city centre just opposite John Lewis but they can't sell all I need as it's sooooo small (free coffee though). I keep getting marketing mails from them telling me all about the lovely things they sell… in other stores that are miles away. There's just no space in the one here for anything other than the basics. Sad

Philoslothy · 16/02/2014 12:28

I don't think it is inverse snobbery to notice that Waitrose is a bit posher than Asda. If I were to make scathing statements about the people who shopped in there that would be a different matter.

LadyMaryLikesCake · 16/02/2014 12:30

I think they are extending the tram towards that area, LaQ.

Waitrose isn't expensive, a lot of their basics (beans etc) are twatsco price matched. Everything is fresh and great quality, they have great ethics also. The Co-op is more expensive IME.

oliviaoctopus · 16/02/2014 12:31

it depends on the area philo. At ours its known that a lot of people do drug deals in the car park, people cash their benefit milk tokens there, its not in a particularly great area, and people go in their after drinking to buy fags from the trampy pub opposite.

SpanishLady · 16/02/2014 12:32

I think wait rose used to a bit more expensive but there's not much in it now I don't think ( mind you I am getting waitrose own for most things)

Yup. One line is going through Beeston, past the University and the QMC and into the city, the other is going through West Bridgeford and into the city. They will all end in Hucknall (I think).

The city centre's OK, it's getting full of coffee shops though.

I don't find Waitrose expensive, it could be because they only have limited stock though so I can't buy 10 different types of cake Blush. I get 10% off certain things too, so that helps. I also have a card for John Lewis so I can get a free coffee and cake every month. Poor Nero's, they really shouldn't have opened a coffee shop next door to Waitrose. People won't buy a coffee when they can get a free one next door. Grin

mummywithsmiles · 16/02/2014 12:48

Lol@ cash in there benefit milk tokens !... That would be me .
Don't get me wrong our waitrose is in a fairly posh area ...Chelsea/Fulham ..but not all us folk who live there are posh.
There's a council estate ( where I live ) pretty much 2 minutes away and we always feel welcome buy the staff..the customers I dont know and don't care :)

Yeah it doesnt matter mummy, but much more common to see people on the lower income spectrum in there than posh people. I dont think they would dare hand out free coffee! Ours isnt in a posh area at all.

mummywithsmiles · 16/02/2014 12:58

Olivia that's why I was confused ,never really noticed before that anyone classed wait rose as posh or john lewis.

Here you go, LaQ www.thetram.net/tram-expansion/ Looks like it's going through the Wilford side of West Bridgeford. It was a bit silly to stick another coffee shop there TBH, Nottingham is covered with them so they really didn't need it. There's another Nero's around the corner Confused
