I read they give out free coffee and regular shoppers think it's attracts all the oiks

TamerB · 15/02/2014 22:26

I love Waitrose- I just wish we had a local one. Does anyone just shop in one store? I love Lidl too and use Tesco, Morrison and Sainsbury.

Bearleigh · 15/02/2014 22:27

I think it is more expensive, and while I don't mind paying for quality I think that for most things Sainsbury's quality is the same and for some things (organic or free range chickens for example) M&S is far better, but at the same price - they are much tastier. For some things, eg mushrooms, and herbs our local large Waitrose is very poor: even Morrisons is better.

Their stores are more attractive though, with wider aisles than anyone else.but I find some of their packaging twee, and their hook up with Duchy Originals, and Peince Charles really annoys me.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/02/2014 22:27

It is certainly more expensive. Lovely, but unquestionably more expensive.

NinjaCow · 15/02/2014 22:27

I've never been inside a Waitrose, thinking about it. Confused

TamerB · 15/02/2014 22:27

The only problem with the free coffee is that here is always a queue.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/02/2014 22:28

I like the Duchy stuff, for v special treats not everyday.

brokenshoes · 15/02/2014 22:29

I love how polite the assistants are in Waitrose. Today our cashier, a man in his early 20s, apologised for not having any of the green tokens for putting in the charity box left.

LadyMaryLikesCake · 15/02/2014 22:33

I'm 26 miles away from the Newark store, LaQ, and they won't deliver here, I asked

Shock Shock "Did you know, they're about to build a big Waitrose on the outskirts of West Bridgford soon?" The buggers told me they weren't planning on building a larger one here!

I think I love you Cake Wine

ForgettableTampon · 15/02/2014 22:33

pfffffffffffffffft OP

You wannna come North, come to a Booths THEN you'll see what Really Naice shops are like

southeastastra · 15/02/2014 22:34

twatrose shoppers are generally arsey towards twatrose staff - trufact

LadyMaryLikesCake · 15/02/2014 22:36

M&S foodhall is terrible. Old folk a'plenty and it's not the place to shop if you're in a hurry. M&S customers are evul towards the staff Sad

squoosh · 15/02/2014 22:37

God yes, M&S is full of old ladies buying 73 tins of corned beef and 17 individual trifle portions.

UriGeller · 15/02/2014 22:44

Oh Booooooths! Bloody hell yeah. Make Waitrose look like Asda. Nice to have the choice. I bet a weeks shop would cost about £300.

grumpyoldbat · 15/02/2014 22:48

We don't have any Waitrose branches anywhere near us.

However based on what I've read on MN I wouldn't shop there even if we did. Even forgetting the fact that I wouldn't be able to afford it I wouldn't want to shop where I wasn't welcome. I feel awkward enough in public without going somewhere I definitely wasn't welcome.

LadyMaryLikesCake · 15/02/2014 22:49

It took 20 minutes to get through the checkout last week Hmm. Why do people buy individual pots of porridge? Surely it makes more sense to buy a bag of oats and make it yourself? The reason why it took 20 minutes was because the gent in front bought 7 pots of porridge, some beans, nothing that would get him drunk, and hadn't spent enough to use his £5 money off when you spend £25 voucher, so he tootled off to find something that cost £1.63 or something stupid. I could feel my life ebbing away.

TamerB · 15/02/2014 22:50

I prefer Waitrose to Booths.

TamerB · 15/02/2014 22:51

Anyone is perfectly welcome in Waitrose- people do talk nonsense!

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2014 22:51

Waitrose is not 'all that' The bread is horrible, and it's a very sterile shopping experience. Ours doesn't even have a cafe.

mummywithsmiles · 15/02/2014 22:53

Why wouldn't you be welcome ?I don't understand.
I've never been looked at in an offensive way or anything in there and I have shopped in there in mickey mouse PJs :)

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumEEEEK · 15/02/2014 22:54

I'd never shop at Waitrose.

I'd be one of those people they're accusing of 'bringing down the standards'.

Then again I am the one who called my mum after my first foray into Sainsbury's and said "Bloody hell this is posh, didn't realise Sainsbury's had a dress code!".

oik and proud

WhereIsMyHat · 15/02/2014 22:56

Waitrose is very powsh you grow up in deepest South West Wales.

Richmond waitrose was the poshest supermarket I've ever been to until they opened a Whole foods! Grin

mummywithsmiles · 15/02/2014 22:57

Ha sparkling ours doesn't either.
I don't see it as any different oh apart from there birthday cakes are amazing.
Heinz, walkers etc are all price matched soi the same as anywhere else plus you get another 10 percent off some things if you have a waitrose card.
