about DH calling breastfeeding "titty"?

DS2 (5 months) is breastfed.

When I talk about it to DS1/2, I call it milk, i.e.

"Would DS2 like some milk" or "DS2 is having his milk"

DH, on the other hand, insists on calling it titty. His usual response to me asking him to call it milk is to say "DS2 is having milk from the titty".

I am getting more and more annoyed about DH's refusal to stop calling it titty.

For starters, I call it milk because that's what DS2 is actually drinking, but more importantly, I really don't want DS1 to get it into his head that it's fine to use the term "titty" for DS2 breastfeeding. DS1 is only 2.5yrs old, and I don't want to be in the sitution where I'm trying to breastfeed DS2 discreetly in public, and have DS1 yelling "TITTY!" at the top of his voice.

DH thinks that I'm being ridiculously oversensitive about this. AIBU?

YUCK.

is your husband 17?

HelloBoys · 15/02/2014 13:57

nat - oh it's bitty! forgot

LuckyDayInHell · 15/02/2014 13:57

I would not be keen on this either. It just sounds a bit smutty doesn't it?
Fine for the bedroom, not suitable for a child.

KristinaM · 15/02/2014 13:57

Are you married to a 12 year old boy?????

SomewhatSilly · 15/02/2014 13:57

Little Britain is bitty, not titty.

Dillydollydaydream · 15/02/2014 13:59

I hate the word titty. I don't know why Confused much prefer boob or breast.

FlossieTreadlight · 15/02/2014 13:59

YANBU - your description made me shudder. Good luck with the re-education programme

ohfourfoxache · 15/02/2014 13:59

Urgh. No, wouldn't like this at all

Janorisa · 15/02/2014 14:00

YANBU. I wouldn't like it one little bit...

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 15/02/2014 14:00

Teach your older son to painfully tweak your husband's nipples and loudly declare 'TITTY!' at every opportunity.

Then ignore your husband when he refers to yours in the same vein.

That should bring it to a swift (if not entirely painless) end... Grin

NinjaCow · 15/02/2014 14:01

Ugh, I hate that word. YANBU. You are the one breastfeeding. If your DC1 refers to YOU breastfeeding, then I think the word should be one which you like/tolerate.

sadbodyblue · 15/02/2014 14:04

midlands too and yes have heard the expression used when I was at school titty baby was a cry baby.

still that was littie school kids in 1974 not grown adult men in 2014.

I would struggle to make love to or respect a twat like this op sorry.

Headlikeafuckingorange · 15/02/2014 14:05

It is a revolting word and he must be doing it to wind you up now. Urgh.

MrsReiver · 15/02/2014 14:06

I'm in central Scotland and older folk round here call dummies tits and it gives me the creeps. I had never heard it before moving here.

EduCated · 15/02/2014 14:07

Ah yes, it was bitty, not titty! Still that's what it made me think of!

lifesgreatquestions · 15/02/2014 14:07

It made me cringe when I read it, it's crass.

JanePurdy · 15/02/2014 14:09

MrsReiver I remember a rhyme that went something like "tell tale tit, your mummy canna knit, your daddy canna go to bed without a dummy-tit"

My DP always suggests Titty whenever we discuss baby names Hmm

HenriettaMaria · 15/02/2014 14:09

When I was a child baby bottles were habitually called 'titty bottles' by most people. Hmm

It's not a term I like or have ever used so, IMO, YANBU. Mind you, I don't like or use boob / boobies either.

When any of my lot wanted a bf they would ask for 'feeding' in a whiny tone more often than not

JohnFarleysRuskin · 15/02/2014 14:10

Yeah tell him to stop it. He is being a big tit.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 15/02/2014 14:11

JanePurdy... That was the name of one of the girls in Swallows and Amazons, wasn't it? Love that film.

LurkingCinners · 15/02/2014 14:11

Yuck. YNBU. He's an immature idiot for not stopping although he knows you hate the word.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 15/02/2014 14:13

YADNBU. It is both vile & disrespectful in equal measure.

I think your simply calling it 'milk' makes perfect sense, as that is what DS2 is having & it DS1 will understand easily.

If your DH feels the need to use a different word, then 'breast' would be the appropriate word.

Apart from the disrespect to you, I would not like my DH teaching my small child to call a woman's breasts 'titties' in any context Hmm.

JanePurdy · 15/02/2014 14:14

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe yes, Susan, John, Roger and Titty. He is not suggesting it in homage to Swallows & Amazons though!

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 15/02/2014 14:14

it is something DS2 will understand easily.
