To get the rage when adults say Ta?

SingingGerbil · 14/02/2014 18:25

First world problem I am aware but this really gives me The Rage. Anyone over about the age of 5 should not be allowed to say this I am looking at you DP. In fact I am not that keen on under fives saying it either.

Phew, just had to get that out Grin

I never understood the use of the word ta. I (silently) judge people who say it.

LST · 14/02/2014 18:29

I say it. Judge away Smile

LittleMissGerardButlersMinion · 14/02/2014 18:29

I actually don't mind it, but its quite a popular word here anyway.

Yes thanks/thank you is nicer, but its better than nothing.

I hate it when people have no manners!

wheresthebunman · 14/02/2014 18:29

YANBU
hated it when MIL tried to teach it to DCs instead of 'thanks'.
yes there are bigger things but i fecking hate it

FreyaFridays · 14/02/2014 18:30

I don't mind "ta".

"Cuppa" on the other hand makes my teeth itch, no matter who says it.

DawnOfTheDee · 14/02/2014 18:31

It's a regional thing. Round here everyone says 'ta'.

Nomama · 14/02/2014 18:32

Ooh! I say an annoying thing.

Ta muchly, for pointing it out :)

LittleMissGerardButlersMinion · 14/02/2014 18:33

Don't visit Yorkshire OP! Everyone here says it!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/02/2014 18:34

Yabu. It is commonly used in Yorkshire, and Derbyshire. So there! :)

SingingGerbil · 14/02/2014 18:35

I know you hear it more elsewhere but it really bugs me

OP posts:
steff13 · 14/02/2014 18:35

What does it mean?

MrsKoala · 14/02/2014 18:35

I was just about to ask if it's regional. Everyone round my way says it. I say it. I tech DS to say it. I like it. It's informal and nice.

I didn't realise it was judge worthy - what's the 'judginess' factor? that it's common? that it's an abbreviation?

Anatana · 14/02/2014 18:36

/me flings out arms

Judge away!

I say it, and I say love and I say hiya, yalright. And I say 'dyer want a brew?' ALL the time. And I'm really much much older than five. Won't be stopped! Ta love!

ilikeyourface · 14/02/2014 18:36

I think its regional. Round here if you say 'thankyou' in school you get called 'posh' acording to dd.

IDugUpADiamond · 14/02/2014 18:36

Ta
Cuppa
Biccie
Piccie
Parched

Vegies
SpagBol

Tea

DipMeInChocolate · 14/02/2014 18:36

Its common round these parts. Ta very muchly.

MrsKoala · 14/02/2014 18:36

Where do you live OP?

Anatana · 14/02/2014 18:38

I suspect, MrsKoala, that it's both Northern AND common, which on MN is practically criminal. Grin

Salmotrutta · 14/02/2014 18:38

I don't mind "ta" really.

Obviously "thank you" is more "proper" but a Ta is better than nothing at all surely?

PuppyMonkey · 14/02/2014 18:38

Ta is nicer than your own "the rage."

BrownSauceSandwich · 14/02/2014 18:39

Yeah, it's a dialect thing. So YABU. You'd have to be a proper snob to sneer at it where I live.

DipMeInChocolate · 14/02/2014 18:39

V true Anatana. Grin

Salmotrutta · 14/02/2014 18:40

Ta is quite common up here in Scottishland too.

Sometimes people also say "cheers" in place of Ta/Thank you.

I don't mind that either!

AwkwardSquad · 14/02/2014 18:40

Um, it's normal parlance round here. I couldn't care less how people say thank you, as long as they do! Keep your judginess to yourself, ta very much.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/02/2014 18:44

Didn't the ta debate happen recently or am I dreaming this?

It's a saying I personally dislike but doesn't fuck me off like soneone saying girly, drinky or having a cheeky one.
