First world problem I am aware but this really gives me The Rage. Anyone over about the age of 5 should not be allowed to say this I am looking at you DP. In fact I am not that keen on under fives saying it either.

Phew, just had to get that out Grin

San I remember it recently too, Northerners were reet outraged.

AwkwardSquad · 14/02/2014 18:51

It's probably a perennial. Like tea/dinner, shoes on/off etc etc.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 14/02/2014 18:51

Quite common around here in my not posh part of London too!!

BackforGood · 14/02/2014 18:51

I say 'Ta' sometimes - it's friendly, and colloquial.
I think the thing to fret about (if fret you must) is whether a person thanks you, not the way they say it.

AwkwardSquad · 14/02/2014 18:52

We Northerners like being outraged. It warms up the chips on our shoulders Grin.

AwkwardSquad · 14/02/2014 18:53

I've made it sound like we've a poke of chips on our shoulders instead of just the one.

Thisvehicleisreversing · 14/02/2014 18:54

YouStayClassy I'm disappointed in you. Ta is very common where we're from. Grin

johnworf · 14/02/2014 18:54

I say it a lot. I'm northern.

Judge away Grin

Well i'm a cockney and we all say it - so i'm Southern and Common. Both Husbands have been Northern, so maybe some of their Northernness has rubbed off on me.

I also say 'Cheers' for thank you and don't mind that either, like Salmo.

MrsKoala · 14/02/2014 19:03

Aaahh don't deny it Awkward, the main reason you Northerners have so many chips on your shoulders is so you can have extra with gravy and curry sauce for your 'tea' at 5pm Grin Wink

YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/02/2014 19:08

Grin we don't say it round our way.

I do say 'cheers' and ' alright kid' as a greeting or when signing off , is that worse?

BoysiesBack · 14/02/2014 19:12

I say it too

It's regional, I stay very quiet about regional sayings/pronunciation even though I flinch a bit when I hear barth and the like

AwkwardSquad · 14/02/2014 19:13

Got to have something to help the Gregg's sausage and baked bean pastie down, MrsK Grin

Feminine · 14/02/2014 19:15

I say "ta" sometimes...

no need for rage op

Brew Wink

Bowlersarm · 14/02/2014 19:16

YANBU

I love some of the things people are saying they say like 'cheers' 'alright kid'.

But 'ta' - no, no, no. Horrible.

MrsKoala · 14/02/2014 19:18

OMG is there really a pasty with baked beans IN it??? Why have i never heard of this?? Angry Are you Northerners keeping all the best food for yourselves? Shock

notso · 14/02/2014 19:23

No if it goes with the accent.

The Rage is far more irritating, maybe it's because I'm from Yorkshire so it should be T' Rage.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/02/2014 19:24

Bowlerarm

Alright chook?

Grin

Ta isn't something I've ever said.

AwkwardSquad · 14/02/2014 19:25

Indeed. Many and varied are the culinary wonders of the North! Stotties. Barmcakes. The famous Sausage Savoury. Yorkshire Pizza. Mmmmmm carbs... It's the weather, we have to stay warm somehow.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 14/02/2014 19:28

'alright kid' comes out as 'oright'.

Just clarifying Wink

Velma67 · 14/02/2014 19:30

I wonder if it is some sort of a Viking thing? Danish for thank you is tak, which is kind of similar to ta. Danes are descended from Vikings. Vikings conquered the North. QED. :D

BackOnlyBriefly · 14/02/2014 19:31

It's the way people talk where I come from so your rage is just the same as being angry that foreigners speak differently.
