I'm with your dh on this one!

JeanSeberg · 14/02/2014 06:37

How old are they? Will they know they're from you or will you pretend they are from a secret admirer?

Perfectlypurple · 14/02/2014 06:38

Yabu. Its a bit weird.

MyArseIsbiggerThanYours · 14/02/2014 06:38

I agree with your dh. Valentines day is not about children, I find it really weird when parents do this!

hoppingmad · 14/02/2014 06:40

I know quite a lot of people who do this so I'm in the minority because I don't only just remembered to buy one for dh I don't think yabu because you can do what you like and it's not hurting anybody. Each to their own

DaddyPigsMistress · 14/02/2014 06:40

Its abit creepy.

Willyoulistentome · 14/02/2014 06:49

I find it creepy. Valentines Day is about romantic love, not maternal love.
I think the Americans give cards to a wider range of people than just romantic partners on St Vs day though. Are you American?

chickydoo · 14/02/2014 06:59

I have given cards to my kids for years. My DM used to as well, before she died.
It makes the kids smile ( even the 18 yr old) they know that even if they don't have an ' admirer' they will always get a card. ( and a few chocs) Mind you with 4 kids and a DH it is getting a bit expensive.

Ladyfarquhar · 14/02/2014 07:04

I was a bit Shock while in a card shop I came across a"to my son" card. I sure there were other family variations. But yuk. Just no. It is a romantic gesture and should be kept so. Yabu.

My MIL still sends my DH one, we have been married 3 years. I find it extremely creepy!

MrsGeorgeMichael · 14/02/2014 07:17

aahh you miserable gits
my 3 dc have just loved getting a card :)

Triliteral · 14/02/2014 07:17

My grandad used to send us cards when we were young. He didn't sign them so officially we didn't know who they were from. It stopped me feeling left out and if someone asked if I got a card, I was always happy to be able to say yes.

notso · 14/02/2014 07:17

Hmm, when I was younger a few of my friends got cards from their Mums and I was a bit jealous, so I told my Mum.
She then got me a card and some Black Magic but I felt really stupid and it was a bit weird.

I have written Happy Valentines Day on the notice board because 3 yo DS2 made me a card at pre-school "because I wuv you Mama" which made me a bit soppy!

Ghanagirl · 14/02/2014 07:17

Gave them the free choc hearts that I got with M&s dine in for £20. I'm not American, kids were very happy, will def stop long before they are married??

Dollslikeyouandme · 14/02/2014 07:24

I don't think it's weird, pointless perhaps, but valentines day is pretty stupid anyway.

I don't see any harm in sending someone you love a heart shaped card just to make them smile.

JeanSeberg · 14/02/2014 07:26

How old are they?

katrina81 · 14/02/2014 07:27

I don't do it for mine, but my mum always done it for me - a card and a little bit of chocolate, it was lovely bless her.

nkf · 14/02/2014 07:30

I'm torn. I think anything that dilutes the ghastliness of VD is a good idea. But the idea of more cheesy cards being bought! Tough call.

SweetPeaPods · 14/02/2014 07:32

It's weird. I actually requested DH didn't get me a card from ds.

Bicnod · 14/02/2014 07:32

My mum always sent us a card as children, I think it stopped when we were eleven or so. It was lovely Smile

hootloop · 14/02/2014 07:33

I think it is weird. My uncle has alsways sent flowers to my cousin for valentines. Very odd.

I don't do valentines at all though, I think it's daft. I have never sent one and only ever received on once when I fisrt went with DH and he didn't believe me when I said don't waste your money.

ExcuseTypos · 14/02/2014 07:37

I've never done cards but have always got my DDs something small, heart shaped and chocolatey.

I think it's sweet.
