To tell you that Bad Mothers Club is closing tomorrow

Just in case there are any stray ex-BMs here, I thought I'd let you all know that BMC is finally closing tomorrow

You can see the announcement here

It's a sad day but one that has been long coming.

I hope the powers that be at Mumsnet Towers won't mind me posting this here - there was never an official affiliation between the two sites but a friendly nod was sometimes exchanged.

Goodbye BMC. I made some fabulous friends there and I will miss you

I still have my badge somewhere! and I got a signed copy of "The book" itself

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 08:17

I was just reading BMC before bed last night, couldn't log on as I can't remember my log in details what happened to Julia? I noticed Dam's post about Ron and Amanda but also Julia? Sad Shock

Greenkit · 14/02/2014 08:18

Another amazing woman lost DDtheDQ

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 08:20

No way?!!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 08:21

green I have messaged you :)

WireCat · 14/02/2014 09:16

Morning bitches.

YouTheCat · 14/02/2014 09:21

Morning Grin

It has gone now. Not exactly kicking and screaming but she had a good send off with a few old faces popping up.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 09:26

Oh Lord, someone fill me in about Jules please, can't believe it!

TalisaMaegyr · 14/02/2014 10:48

It was Columbia (Julia) Dame. She passed away from cancer last year Sad She was lovely.

pictish · 14/02/2014 10:51

Aaaaand it's gone.

What a shame. I do like it here on MN - it's varied, it's fast, it's busy...and therefore there's always something of interest to read or comment on.
However, MN has never quite had the same appeal. Maybe it's too big. There just isn't the same sort of cameraderie here....back on BMC it was all about owning up to your failures (hence the name Bad Mother's Club) and being amongst those who also put their hands up to not being a paragon of selfless mothering perfection. There were a LOT of laughs.

This place is different. There's a distinct air of preachiness and competition here, with posters falling over themselves to pass judegement and heap on the sanctimony in spades.

BMC was never about that. We were never there to provide a critique on one another's parenting and award ourselves a chocolate medal for services to parenting, like you see here.

I won't miss it, as it had been dwindling down for a long time and I had not posted for ages...but it is true to say, I don't think we'll ever know its like again.
RIP BMC x

YouTheCat · 14/02/2014 10:56

There was never really the whole 'you can't do that or you're a crap parent' thing over there. Not really judgy at all unless you'd offered your first born up to satan or something terrible.

There was a lot of support and a huge amount of laughs.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 14/02/2014 10:57

Has MrsRichardHammond crossed over? As in the one from the BMC? She was HILARIOUS during SWMNBN. I loved the BMC wimmin, glad to hear so many of them stuck around.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 11:08

Completely true :)

I would NEVER post on here for actual advice tbh which is a shame as that;s what it's meant to be for.

BMC was so small, it was like our own little corner of the internet, pre twitter etc

Mabelface · 14/02/2014 11:08

this old mk has been here for a fair while ;)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 11:09

Talisa thank you, I got confused and thought it was Jules with the tattoo that passed away, I had heard about Colmbia, so sad Sad

pictish · 14/02/2014 11:10

Exactly youthecat...

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 11:12

Remember the Saffron Waldon meet? I narrowly missed that , thank GOD!!! Bloody hell, it was all going on, wasn't it, no time to judge your parenting skills Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 11:12

I SO miss an edit button though Sad

BitOutOfPractice · 14/02/2014 11:16

That was the thing about BMC. Not a judgey knicker in sight. Open and warm acceptance and a sharpness of wit I've never found anywhere else. A wealth of experience that was the widest I had ever encountered online. And the rudest swearing ever! Grin

They could spot bullshit a mile off (and proved so again very recently) and looked after their own fierceley.

I am proud to say I am a BM and will miss the place dreadfully

crunchbag · 14/02/2014 11:17

Yes that was what I liked about BMC, the no-nonsense, common sense approach without the judgmental attitude. No need to boast about your superior parenting skills Wink

oh and the 3) smiley

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 11:19

Oh I miss that smiley Sad We have Hmm but it isn't the same Sad

It was very witty there late on a Friday night on Misto and Jo, certainly not the same here in terms of proper belly laughs imo, probably as the place is so huge, it seem impersonal.

pictish · 14/02/2014 11:22

I mean yeah...we certainly had our fair share of spats and insults between posters...but I can't say as it often centred around differences in parenting.
It would generally have been considered poor form to get snotty and supercilious at another poster about their parenting choices, I think.
Not so here - it's open season from that point of view.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/02/2014 11:24

You're right pictish

lubeybooby · 14/02/2014 11:25

Aw it really has gone. Been here on and off since 2006 but nothing beats bmc way back when. I thankfully managed to save a few of my threads last night (thank you moderators!)

ClarkGable · 14/02/2014 11:25

I was on there briefly years ago - I agree it did feel more intimate than MN (especially now as MN is massively bigger than when I joined) and remember a poster called Buffy in particular - I once told her I imagined that she looked like Jilly Goulden and she was outraged Grin. What a shame it's gone but from what people are saying it was obviously in decline anyway..?
