To think using such a skinny model is irresponsible?

yes Next, I'm looking at you
I came across is when I was browsing for some new jeans. Surely noone is actually that thin? And I've been anorexic! Whatever do shops still insist on using such skinny models? And no, this isn't 'thin shaming', I know we all come in different shapes and sizes. Not to add, those jeans are gopping.

Confused of course people are that "skinny", me for one and my dd.

I find you're OP incredibly rude.

Anniegoestotown · 12/02/2014 09:11

Dd is v.tall 35" inside leg and a size 2 and her favourite foods are anything with chocolate in and anything with sugar in. If she had her way her tea would consist of a family size bar of chocolate and 2 litre bottle of coke.

Oh and those jeans wouldn't go anywhere near her as to get the leg length apparently you have to be a minimum of a size 8

I on the other hand have a 30" inside leg and am a size 18 and I never eat chocolate. ITS NOT FAIR!!!

ExcuseTypos · 12/02/2014 09:11

And I should have I eat a very normal diet, dd eats like a horse and eats lots of chocolate. I don't look at that photo and think she's incredibly skinny. In my family(sisters and nieces) legs like that are the norm.

TulipOHare · 12/02/2014 09:28

Some people are naturally thin. Others are naturally larger. It would be nice to see a variety in magazines which reflects the variety in the rest of the population

I agree. It's not the fact that this model is thin, it's the fact that the thin, tall "ideal" is so heavily over-represented. There's nothing wrong with being thin or tall, but the exclusion of other, more common body types is just a fact of the fashion industry, and this absence of representation itself is as "shaming" as the periodic critiques of extreme thinness which appear on here and are quickly shot down in flames.

It's not my ideal, anyway. I think the jeans do nothing for her (would they even look good on anyone?)

Honeysweet · 12/02/2014 09:41

When models are photoshopped, it starts to make the clothes not look right either.

GinOnTwoWheels · 12/02/2014 09:56

I don't think she's particularly thin for a model, especially if you get past the bad photoshopping.

Surely by now, everyone knows that models are a very slim teenagers/20s women and most of the pictures are photoshopped, so are not in any way a picture of reality, or something that is generally acheiveable in older or shorter women? In any case, the models themselves probably don't look like that in real life.

Just concentrate on being a healthy weight for your size and ignore the unrealistic images?

And if you want to get really upset about unrealistic models and pictures, have a look at this available in sizes 20-28 at M&S!

DontAskIDontKnow · 12/02/2014 10:12

The advert is for "sexy" high waist jeans, but I don't think that picture is at all attractive. The pose looks like she is suffering from a wedgie and she has no thighs.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 12/02/2014 10:15

if she's not think I am morbidly obese. however, people are naturally slim. and it's no secret that companies prefer to use models at the slimmer end of the scale.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 12/02/2014 10:16

*if she's not thin

AlwaysSleepingBeauty · 12/02/2014 10:20

I echo what others have said; she is slim but not worryingly so. I feel a bit uncomfortable with all the body critiquing.

I would like to see clothes represented on a greater variety of sizes though, and I say that as a size 6/8 woman.

Writerwannabe83 · 12/02/2014 10:23

I don't think she's particularly thin. At the end of the day the shop will choose a model that best shows off their products - and long, slim legs will make skinny jeans look appealing to wear.

WorraLiberty · 12/02/2014 10:26

I certainly don't think she's too 'skinny' either.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 12/02/2014 10:26

my legs look like i've been compressed but i still wear skinnies!

mrsjay · 12/02/2014 10:28

I dont think she is that thin I do think her legs have been stretched a little that is photoshop though, her legs look like my adult dds and my 16 yr old has think straight up and down legs too

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 12/02/2014 10:28

YABU - she's nothing unusual! Lots of people are the same shape and size of her.

Why is it ok to bash a womans figure if it's thin but not if it's larger. Live and let live...as long as we are happy with ourselves who is anyone else to judge.

mrsjay · 12/02/2014 10:30

you are right betty you dont get pictures of women with thread titles is she too fat for these skinny jeans

WorraLiberty · 12/02/2014 10:31

Women are always the harshest critics of other women's bodies imo

Though of course the media gets the blame

mrsjay · 12/02/2014 10:31

as a woman who has been told to have a pie or cake to get some meat on my bones I hate skinny comments

mrsjay · 12/02/2014 10:32

well exactly. women are women's worst critics

mrsjay · 12/02/2014 10:32

sorry meant to quote worra

WorraLiberty · 12/02/2014 10:32

I had those comments right up until I was in my late 30s mrsjay

mrsjay · 12/02/2014 10:34

yes I did i am a bit heavier now not much but when i was younger folk thought it was ok to just come out with statements, but people would never say oiy fatty put that cake down

SomethingkindaOod · 12/02/2014 10:37

Those jeans look great on me and I'm a 5ft 2" size 12....

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 12/02/2014 10:38

Mrs - I have been fat, I have been thin and people comment regardless. I am in good shape at the moment but I literally am working my arse off for it - 2 hours in the gym every morning, eating clean etc etc....still get the comments, oooh, you need a good meal, oooh your face has gone really thin. Can you imagine if I said to someone God, haven't you got fat, your face is really round....it would be deemed as bloody rude.

Get's right on my pip Grin

mrsjay · 12/02/2014 10:38
