Just found some frozen quorn mince in the freezer dated May 2013 - what do you think?

How good is your freezer? If it's a chest freezer at -18 I would, if it's a small compartment in a fridge I wouldn't.

Waltonswatcher1 · 11/02/2014 20:54

No way!

brooncoo · 11/02/2014 20:54

Bottom half of the fridge style freezer. Can you get food poisoning from Quorn?

OP posts:
JaneFonda · 11/02/2014 20:55

I would.

Nomama · 11/02/2014 20:55

Is it freezer burned? Was it well wrapped? Why not?

slimyak · 11/02/2014 20:56

I would say quorn probably has a best before date rather than use by date. In which case it'll probably be a bit dry but won't kill you. Common sense on the freezer as liara says and I wouldn't use it for BLW! I'd probably eat it.

fuzzywuzzy · 11/02/2014 20:58

Nooooooooo it's almost a year out of date. Bin it.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 11/02/2014 22:12

I'd eat it.

supadupapupascupa · 11/02/2014 22:14

time stands still as far as i'm concerned in a freezer - that's the whole point. As long as it isn't freezer burned and looks alright I would cook and eat.

DoJo · 11/02/2014 22:32

This^^ I've eaten things that were 10 years old (out of my mum's freezer, I hasten to add) and they've tasted fine and haven't had any side effects.

Mia4 · 11/02/2014 22:33

It's fine, it's not meat. TBF I've eaten meat years after it's sell by date which have been frozen, I never bother to look. I know what listeria looks like on food and unless the freezer is crap or it defrosts and then is refrozen even meat should be fine.

But it's up to you OP.

acsec · 11/02/2014 22:34

Eat it, not at all a problem!

Wuxiapian · 11/02/2014 22:37

Shouldn't be a problem. It's been frozen for a while, so germ free.

DanceParty · 11/02/2014 22:38

It will be fine !!

BagOfBats · 11/02/2014 22:43

What's freezer burn?

Cringechilli · 11/02/2014 22:44

Yuck! I'd bin it.

Zookiemay · 11/02/2014 22:46

Eat it and see? Let us know and then I can make up my mind about eating the bag of quorn mince at the back of my own freezer.

LifeIsBetterInFlipFlops · 11/02/2014 22:47

I'd eat it.

TheBookofRuth · 11/02/2014 22:52

Can Quorn actually get any worse?

hardtostayfocused · 11/02/2014 22:58

9 months, that's nothing. It'll be fine! I had some two year old mackerel fillets the other day - delicious.

deakymom · 11/02/2014 22:59

its a type of mushroom stuff so cook the hell out of it x

thecatneuterer · 11/02/2014 23:26

I'd definitely eat it. These best before dates always leave a huge margin for error, and as it's not meat what harm can it do you?

SergeantJarhead · 12/02/2014 00:45

Eat it OP. Make a banging lasagne.

brooncoo · 12/02/2014 00:57

Oh well, if you don't see me around any more - you'll know it was a bad idea!

Bubblegoose · 12/02/2014 01:10

A yes from me.
