...then it is only polite to assume the woman with the toddler is the mother and not the grandmother!!!! I am 42, DD is 20 months. No, I honestly don't look a lot older!! I know that there are plenty of grandmothers the same age as me, but there are loads of older mothers around too. If in doubt, please be nice and assume I am the mother, or just say nothing at all!! It often seems to be the older generation (60+), who look at me questioningly "Is she your granddaughter?" or "Spending time with your...[querying look]...grandchild?"

And breathe...

I was 37 when I had dd2 (now 10). She was taken ill at school this week and paramedic ambulance to A & E . I was at work in next city so DD1 (21)and DS (18 next week) went to the hospital whilst DH (who also works there ) got to her. By time I got there I had done days work (so knackered and anxious) sent DH and DS home and me and DD1 accompanied DD2 to children's ward for admission. It was 9pm (and poor light Grin ) by the time the paed reg came to see her. He asked DD1 if she was the mother - both DD1 and 2 immediately protested that they were sisters - DD1 adding that she didnt give birth at 11!. I'm not sure who looked more mortified - knackered me or the Paed (esp as younger colleague found it highly amusing).

Thankfully she is fine and home now!
