to want to cry on hearing my neighbour is going to get another cat..

Justonemorecardi · 03/02/2014 13:35

My neighbour had two cats until the summer when they moved out for 3 months while their house was renovated. They came back daily to feed them but one went missing in the trauma of it all and never came back.

The other cat comes for its daily poo in my garden and I've been out gardening this weekend and there is a whole winters worth of poo in my borders and under our kitchen staircase (external spiral thing with plants underneath) - its disgusting.

Last year I told her what was happening and she just listened but said she didn't know what to do about it and her husband just stood their pretending to vomit.

I've just heard they're planning to buy another cat to replace the missing one - I want to cry. Why can't they train the cats to go in a litter tray? Surely if you live in a city its obvious it has to poo in someone's garden, so its antisocial and selfish to not train it?

YABU.

Apparently, according to an acquaintance, a humane cage trap, good blast with a garden hose for a few minutes, then release does the trick. Not that I would suggest waterboarding an innocent animal or anything. Also ditto to borrowing a dog now and then.

olidusUrsus · 05/02/2014 00:16

Ah it's always nice to know that there will always be cunts in the world to abuse animals for pooing. It's like parents who yell at their kids for crying or wetting themselves.

Jengnr · 05/02/2014 08:02

If you have a pet you need to take responsibility for it. And that includes the grim bits as well as the nice bits. It's unreasonable and really unpleasant and selfish to inflict the grim parts on your neighbours.

If you have a cat keep it indoors or enclose your garden properly. It's the decent thing to do.

Chopstheduck · 05/02/2014 08:06

Not read the whole thread.

Chilli flakes, coffee grinds, or simply covering the whole area with plastic until they desist and start toileting elsewhere. And a water pistol - next doors cats now leg it as soon as they see us. And it is humane.

Get the neighbours to put cat litter down in their own garden somewhere to encourage the cats to use their own garden.

Worked for us.

And cat poo is very distinctive. Fox poo smells more like dog poo, cat poo is lied nothing else on earth!

MidniteScribbler · 05/02/2014 08:22

You can't keep a cat inside all the time that's just cruel. Wood you keep a dog inside without walking them?

No it's not. Cats are perfectly adaptable to indoor living. And if they must get some outdoor time, then build a cat run. The excuse of cats needing to roam is just an excuse for cat owners not to take responsibility for their pets. My dogs are kept indoors when I'm not home, and they're on a lead unless they're confined to my property. I know for certain they aren't crapping in the neighbours yard or causing a nuisance. That's what responsible pet owners do.

echt · 05/02/2014 08:44

Cat runs are response to the imagined depredations of cats on wildlife, not cat shit in yards.

Experiments show that the lack of trees in a neighbourhood is what counts when it come so wildlife depredation.

As for cat shit in your yard, pick it up as you would litter in your street.

Just walking a dog is a bit shit. What they want is to run and play. Anything else is not on. Like a cat in a cage.

My mum had a similar problem with the cat from the house whose garden backed onto hers. She told the owners but as there isn't much they could realistically do they just shrugged. So she periodically just collects all the catshit up and flings it over the back fence.

The neighbours must know but they've never mentioned it. I bet they just think she's the batty old dear who flings poo around!

Nomorepeppapig · 05/02/2014 16:27

FYI limitedperiodonly my cat does use his litter tray he doesn't poo outside or in my house. for 9 years he was an inside cat. I took him on and now he enjoys going outside, cats need to be alond out it IS cruel to keep them in. And for you calling someone lazy that you have never met before is rude. You know nothing about me or my cleaning habits.

sicily1921 · 05/02/2014 16:32

YANBU OP, I am surrounded by cats and my garden is awash with their vile poo. I could tolerate it if it were easy to get up but it never is. End result... a garden that my kids cannot play in half the time. Depressing Sad

limitedperiodonly · 05/02/2014 17:10

Nomorepeppapig So your cat shits and wees in his litter tray? Wonderful.

But you said that some cats won't use a litter tray. I agree.

Sometimes it's because they're feral and didn't have a domestic mother to teach them. If you want to adopt a feral cat, there's nothing you can do about that except clean up after them. Otherwise you shouldn't adopt.

But with domestic cats, quite often it's because the owner doesn't clean up enough. The cat I have now will use a dirty litter tray. But it's his shit. He was also relaxed about his brother's shit when he was alive.

But I've had a cat who absolutely wouldn't go in a tray that had previous shit in it - either his or someone else's. I don't know why.

The answer was to scoop it out, not to inflict his shit on my neighbours. It wasn't hard. If you don't do that, it is lazy, arrogant and dirty.

And it's not cruel to keep them indoors.

Nomorepeppapig · 05/02/2014 18:03

Well I disagree I do think it cruel to keep them in. Cats are meant to run and climb. Yes ideally they would all use a litter tray but some just will not. You can't keep them in just in case they poo in someone's garden. My child is very loud I don't keep her inside in case she makes to much noise for the neighbours!

limitedperiodonly · 05/02/2014 18:09

ok

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2014 18:11

I think it is cruel to keep cats in that are used to going out.

I think it's ok for cats that know no different as long as the owner has taken steps to ensure the cat isn't bored.
Some cats have to be kept as indoor cats due to FIV etc.

Ideally cats should be allowed out though.

SoleSource · 05/02/2014 18:14

I have a cat but he uses the litter box at home. He goes out everyday and comes back at night.

bumbumsmummy · 05/02/2014 18:18

Return the cat shit it's all you can do

NewtRipley · 05/02/2014 18:22
