To want to murder someone over lack of size 6 boys slippers

catslave · 03/02/2014 12:20

Yes, my 10 year old is at that awkward gangly stage and I have promised him a pair of slippers for his size 6 flippers feet for his birthday.

But can I find any? Can I f*ck. We have steep stairs and he is very good at tripping over, so I variously don't want either mules or massive lethal "comedy" Homer Simpson heads, lions, monster feet etc etc.

Neither do I want anything with a football logo or bastarding Ninja Turtles (message to slipper industry - we all hated them over a decade ago. Stop trying to revive them. The boat has sailed. They are gone and nobody cares).

They have some nice slipper boots on Joules, but the boys sizing ends at a 3 and the mens sizing starts at a 7-8. WTHF?? What is wrong with the sizes in between and why does nobody make anything? It's bad enough being a gangly pre-teen without the slipper industry joining in and ignoring you. Even Clarks can't be arsed. P.S If anyone can help, I would appreciate it as I need to go to the supermarket before I pick up from nursery, but also need to get something on order for the weekend...

I got mine some in marksies. Plain, navy blue, shoe-like size 6-7.

LightsPlease · 03/02/2014 12:25

Yabu
Check the supermarkets, topman etc.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/02/2014 12:25

Next?
Primark?
Totes?
Tk maxx?

Unexpected · 03/02/2014 12:31

M&S show three pairs in size 6 for boys, John Lewis have some which can be ordered for delivery to a Waitrose. Next have boot slippers for £11 which go up to size 8, there are loads. You need to google.

CoffeeTea103 · 03/02/2014 12:37

Yabu to blame the stores for your lack of cba to look properly. There's plenty out there.

Gatekeeper · 03/02/2014 12:42

have a look on ebay for mocassin slippers, the ones with the pvc sole

Gatekeeper · 03/02/2014 12:49

mocassins

stripey

more stripes

Gatekeeper · 03/02/2014 12:54

have a look at the mens slippers on ebay as there is a wider range; you might have to size down though and get a size 5?

these are size 5 ones

jendot · 03/02/2014 13:41

Ds is in exactly the same phase!! John Lewis £12 grey and a bit furry. Size 6 easy peasy

CouthyMow · 03/02/2014 13:59

Aargh! Why do the shops seemingly expect boys to jump from size 5 to size 7 in shoes? It's ridiculous.

(You are not alone in dealing with this, I've had issues finding decent trainers for DS1 recently)

Scholes34 · 03/02/2014 14:53

Had similar problem with walking boots. Had to go for a non-pink/purple girl's pair. It really is silly. Yes, if you look, you can find what you need, but there is a definite gap in the market here.

phantomnamechanger · 03/02/2014 15:01

I am having the same problem getting nice plain white bras, of all things, for DD

she' s too old and too big now for the crop toppy/non wired ones in the kids sections, which seem to stop at 32A, yet too young by far for all the fancy tarty padded sexy stuff in the ladies section. need to be white to go under school blouse. 32B. have scoured the town I live in and the town I work in. very little available. am not going somewhere dead posh and pricey either. Grrrrr!

catslave · 03/02/2014 16:08

Primark, Waitrose... sorry, should have explained I live in the sw, so we don't have either within 1.5hrs drive. If only. Ones on M&S in the right size (boys category) and non-mule, non superman are very feeble lightweight striped ones. Not even warm furry lining on them. The tartan ones get 2 stars so probably crap. Seriously, I have Googled and looked and looked online for about 1.5 hours today (Debenhams, Joules, Boden, JL, various shoe hypermarkets, Surfdome...)

Glad others are having the same prob. He is not a baby, but not an adult either; just has big feet. Can't size down as that is what his size is - 5 too small, unfortunately. I had hoped I was missing some hidden slipper wonderland where they had mid sizes in abundance. Oh well, back to the beginning.

Jendot - can't find the JL ones in mens or boys depts - would you link if they are there? Sound good...

I feel your pain, my DS is size 5 and it is difficult to get a nice pair of slippers. His last were from next - a green combat pair but at sz 4 they are too small now Hmm

If I find some I will link!

Kahlua4me · 03/02/2014 16:26

We have exactly the same problem with my ds who is also 10. We bought him a very plain pair of ladies slippers in the end from m and s.

He is none the wiser and they fit him perfectly!

FrigginRexManningDay · 03/02/2014 16:34

Try the womens section, I got lovely red slippers in Tesco.

BlueberryWoods · 03/02/2014 16:34

Try Cotswold outdoor

haggisaggis · 03/02/2014 16:56

I got these for ds - they're ok but a bit boring. Otherwise getting women's ones (and Coolers have some in neutral colours) is probably your best bet. Amazon also have some unisex styles in size 6.

Kleptronic · 03/02/2014 18:37

Catslave, if you like I'll check in our M and S tomorrow and send you some, it's an outlet so they were cheap.

LetZygonsbeZygons · 03/02/2014 19:16

oh ghosh I had this today with SIL and nephew whos 14 trying to find briefs for him! all they have ANYWHERE for his age are boxers.

shops sell teenage girls stuff mostly but the boys seem to stop at 13 and then theyre remembered again at mens small (about 18 years old).

Unexpected · 03/02/2014 19:29

Mens small is not necessarily 18 years of age. I have a 15 year old who is already in mens medium size for most things - underwear, t-shirts etc.

LetZygonsbeZygons · 03/02/2014 19:31

Nephews as thin as a rake (and eats like a pig!) hes one of those gangly un co-ordinated Jar Jar Binks teens! SIL actually bought him age 10 pants and they fitted fine.

Puffinlover · 03/02/2014 19:35

Phantom have you tried Next directory? I'm also a 32b Blush and they have excellent two packs of fairly plain bras which are £20. HTH

Feminine · 03/02/2014 19:48

My 15 yr old son takes man sizes in everything

his feet are size 11-12

his tops are medium.

his jeans are a 34 leg.

it is a pain. I good luck with next for most things.

TheBuskersDog · 03/02/2014 19:49

Phantom I could go on M and S and order a dozen different white t-shirt bras in a 32B, which aren't at all tarty, but what I'm actually wondering is is she really that size? (see the many bra intervention threads)
