Would i be vile to put my hoover through the dishwasher.

I am really thinking of doing this.

It need descaling any way, which i would do after but would it break the bin part and will i decontaminate the dishwasher.

Do you mean the attachments? I suppose it would be ok. Certainly as MrsCakes says you can't put any electrical bits in.

Not sure what you mean by the 'bin part'?

I've done it, worked fine (non electric parts!) Dishwasher also fine.

I've often contemplated bunging it in the dishwasher myself but would the water be too hot do you think?

I don't think I'd risk a really hot wash, does your dishwasher have setting that would let you do it at 40 or 60? It won't make the dishwasher dirty, though I'd probably give it a hot cleaning cycle afterwards anyway just on principle.

Plus, physically, will it fit in and not tip over or bounce around? I'm picturing a sort of light plastic jug - those fly around my dishwasher. But if it's heavy enough to stay put, I can't see any problem.

A dishwashers is meant to get things clean if germs do why not. I put the metal items of my horse's tack through the dishwasher and her grooming kit on occasion. Then I bund a cleaner through and empty the fitters. No problem.

I have friends who also put bits and stirrup irons in the dishwasher. I wish I could but ... I just can't bring myself to do it. (Confesses to having separate washing machine for saddlecloths, headcollars and stable towels)

I couldn't put vacuum cleaner pieces into dishwasher for same germ phobic reason but quite sure that neither dishwasher nor vacuum would come to any harm, OP.

No don't do it! The dishwasher ruins the bowls from Magimixes etc and I imagine it would do the same to the plastic on your vacuum.

If you do - take it out before the drying cycle starts. That is what ruins plastic bowls etc, not the wash.

Of course handwash laundry gets cleaned in the washing up bowl. Why wouldn't it?

Am I the only manky clart who's never even considered cleaning a Hoover? In all my 46 years, I can honestly say that it's never crossed my mind.

I have a picture in my head of you trying to cram a fully built up hoover into your dishwasher.

I know this isn't what you mean but this makes me Grin more.

Do it. With a toddler I've had many things that shouldn't have gone through the dishwasher but they have and it still cleans the dishes fine.

You mean wash your hoover?! I've never even looked at my Dyson and thought 'yep needs a clean'. Wont it instantly just get dirty again.

I put bits of the oven such as shelves in the dishwasher and also the metal bars on the gas cooker go in. These things are meant to get very hot though.

I'd put almost boiling water on the hoover's parts and washing up liquid and let it soak for a bit.

I've washed the filter on my Dyson, but it's never occurred to me to wash the bin bit. And now I'm thinking about it, my thoughts are mostly askinf, why would you bother?

Won't harm the non-electrical bits, and dishwashers sterilise. I'd have a care about the solids still in the dust container, some models of dishwasher are right sods for clogging their filters. Not sure what it achieves that a step outside and a good blast with the garden hose won't, mind, other than sterilising it.

As for people getting germphobic about putting stuff in the dishwasher, the damned thing's actually slightly better than an autoclave for getting stuff sterile. A lot slower, certainly, but it's got a washing action as well that gets the dirt off, not just sterile.

In short, if you're germophobic, put EVERYTHING in the dishwasher.
