To think the p. pig writers are a bit sexist towards daddy pig?

My DH thinks so and I tend to think he's got a point on this one. Daddy is made out to be a buffoon who's crap at everything apart from bringing home the bacon (figuratively speaking) whilst mummy pig is oh so wise and clever

whilst this isn't too dissimilar from my own situation I do think that if the situation were reversed and MP was portrayed as an airhead or other stereotype, there would be uproar.

Similar thing happens in many cartoons and sitcoms. It's starting to get on my tits.

I always thought daddy pig (oink oink) was a baboon on purpose to make his baby pigs laugh!!
I shall be watching closely next time.

But doesn't Daddy Pig do something complex with engineering as a job? So he is not an airhead or portrayed as one, but more one of those clever people often lacking in common sense....

What do the other people in his office do, iLick? They do stamping and blue triangles from memory, but that doesn't seem very likely in terms of career. Grin

Yabu. He's a successful architect. I'm sure mummy pig makes silly mistakes too. Like when she can't put the toy box together. Or when she lets the kids mess up daddy pigs shirt.

Yes, they laugh at everyone. It's presented as part of normal family life (which it is). I like it. I hate families where everyone's fucking nice to each other all the time. It's unnatural.

It's for children so children can't be the fall guys. Neither can women or old people. That just leaves middle aged men to be the dopey ones who get everything wrong.

There is a deeply unhealthy family dynamic going on with Daddy Pig's in laws if you ask me. The incident where they get lost on the way to Windy Castle 'because Daddy Pig can't map read', and Mummy Pig phones her parents and they all laugh at him in front of the children. Can you imagine the MIL thread on here if the situations were reversed?

This bit of his argument is particularly salient, I think:

I saw that David Mitchell piece, JoinYourPlayfellows, and I think he's right. It's precisely because of continued male dominance, culturally speaking and otherwise, that they are the safe but of humour in cartoons.

(Mind you, the only Peppa Pig episodes I've seen don't actually differentiate between the Pig parents at all - they both jump in middy puddles, and Daddy Pig is the one to twig where George's missing toy is.)
