To ask if you think that Knox is guilty?

I have no idea but it seems that her kissing her boyfriend at the time was seen as suspicious whereas I don't think that this is suspicious at all. DNA is...kissing one's lover.no. It's not even that inappropriate to kiss ones lover in the face of tragedy.
Didn't she do cartwheels though?

Why on earth is Guede eligible for release in 2014? He sounds like a very dangerous psychopath from what I've read about him.

lottieandmia · 01/02/2014 15:13

Exactly, I agree with Hackman. There is no evidence at all that Knox was even in the flat at the time of the murder. Except in Guede's testimony where he eventually said that he heard her arguing then saw her leave the flat before the Meredith was killed. This was after changing his story from saying that a 'shadowy figure' had murdered Meredith. It's more likely that Knox had been at her boyfriend's flat where she had been staying for the past week at least, returning home only for clothes.

Nancy66 · 01/02/2014 15:18

I think it's incredibly unlikely that Meredith was killed by one person. She had no defence wounds which suggests she was pinned down and I can't see how someone could hold her down and stab her multiple times without her struggling to free herself and sustaining defence wounds in the process.

Nerfmother · 01/02/2014 15:30

But lotte, isn't it more needing evidence she wasn't? It was her home so where was she if not at home and that's what was always unclear. Let's assume that you would expect to find someone at home, unless they were somewhere else - they claimed the somewhere else was rafaelles flat but it was never very clear.

lottieandmia · 01/02/2014 15:32

Someone else could have been involved, but it's hard to believe it was Knox when there were no shoe prints, no hairs or skin cells or other DNA of Knox's in the room at all. Meanwhile, Guede's DNA was all over the room and found inside Meredith. If a clean up had been done, how exactly would you remember where you had trodden and remove your own shoe prints and everything else but manage to leave Guede's DNA? I think the whole idea completely lacks credibility.

Knox's behaviour was very odd in the way that she kept changing statements but that does not mean she had anything to do with the murder.

There were 2 other Italians living with Meredith and Knox and 4 other students living in the basement. The 2 Italians and 4 students from downstairs were all out of town on the day of the murder - luckily for them or maybe they would have been implicated as well?

Piscivorus · 01/02/2014 15:37

I know this is not evidence but it makes interesting reading and adds to the suspicions of those who just think something is "off"

lottieandmia · 01/02/2014 15:40

Well I don't think that article adds anything tbh. A person can be cold, can be dislikable or strange but that doesn't make them a murderer.

LemongrassGinger · 01/02/2014 15:41

My answer is, I don't think so but don't think I can ever know but one thing I do know is that stupid people need a neat ending. It's like the people who blame the mcCanns (sorry I know it's taboo to mention the mcCanns on MN) but people think that it's a tv show, and that the 'perp' must be somebody that the show has introduced. But it's real life and the perp could have been an opportunist wandering past who was and will remain unknown.

And.................. although I'm unsure (obviously) as to her guilt, I think, if she is guilty, it was an accident, and she has in her own way 'served' a decade to this.

LemongrassGinger · 01/02/2014 15:46

What a dubious load of shit that article is!

She had no emotions! Hmm meaning she can control her emotions.

She was cold Hmm but in the next breath, she grew attached to me and favoured [me] (Angela the prison guard)

And the same prison guard finds it odd that she could sleep with out the aid of sleeping pills!?!? never seen that being held against somebody before.

Obviously an educated privileged American isn't going to fit in with a load of prisoners who speak a different language to boot.

lottieandmia · 01/02/2014 15:48

In that situation I would have probably read books instead of socialising too! That prison officer probably sold that story for money anyway.

Onesleeptillwembley · 01/02/2014 16:15

Lemon people that blame them for their actions are not stupid. That's almost the most ridiculous thing I've read on here. It's far more stupid to accept things blindly. And call people that don't agree with your opinion stupid.

helenthemadex · 01/02/2014 16:17

sadly for MK family I don't think the full truth will ever be known

one thing I do know is that stupid people need a neat ending

I agree with this I think people do want an ending, to feel sure that the right person is imprisoned for the crime, especially one as awful as this was

FloweryFeatureWall · 01/02/2014 16:20

Do MKs family believe AK and RS are guilty? I was wondering if them being sent to prison would actually give them the closure they need or not. I think after them being found guilty then not guilty then guilty again, I'd always wonder.

LemongrassGinger · 01/02/2014 16:23

No onesleep, you can't (or shouldn't) send people to jail with no evidence of their guilt. So, if you think I'm stupid, em, get some sleep!! Biscuit

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 01/02/2014 16:32

I don't think Knox is guilty of murder but I do think she decided Meredith needed taking down a peg or two and set something in action she was powerless to stop.

Migsy1 · 01/02/2014 16:37

In it she is asked "Did you kill Meredith Kercher?" AK replies "no."
She is then asked "were you there?" Again she replies "no", but then gives a very obvious nod of the head.

Hang on, I'm confused. I thought she said that she was there and that she had covered her ears when she heard a scream.

Onesleeptillwembley · 01/02/2014 16:39

I agree totally with that. But you never said that. You said people were stupid to blame. Quite a different thing.

prh47bridge · 01/02/2014 16:42

I thought she said that she was there and that she had covered her ears when she heard a scream

She did, but that was in a statement she subsequently withdrew claiming it had been extracted under duress. Italian police don't record interviews so we will never know the truth but the courts decided not to admit the statement as evidence in the murder case.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 01/02/2014 16:45

I have no idea whether she did it or not but every time I hear her on the news (radio), I'm struck by what a very odd person she seems to be. Doesn't make her guilty but makes me go Hmm

Theincidental · 01/02/2014 16:49

The whole thing reminds me of Camus' The outsider of kafka's the Trial.

She is easy to dislike, behaved in a socially unacceptable way and told/was coerced into making multiple conflicting statements.

Tbh, the testimonies and commentaries from her are so muddled that it's hard to know what to believe.

The crime scene, forensics and explanations offered are just as bizarre.

I expect whether she is extradited or not many people will believe her guilty for a long time.

The worst of it is that Meredith kercher's family still have no honest account of what happened to her.

PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 16:51

This is quite a good summary of the "myths" surrounding the case and covers a lot of the points mentioned.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 01/02/2014 16:56

Thanks Porto, that looks interesting. I have bookmarked for a proper read later. Smile

SauceForTheGander · 01/02/2014 16:59

I have done a u turn on this. I thought it was grave miscarriage of justice - sloppy police work under the gaze of International publicity caused them to join dots that just weren't there and convict two young students. I thought AK and RS were caught in Kafka nightmare.

But - whilst there is no smoking gun - there are so many bizarre inconsistencies. There are also myths perpetrated - particularly relating to police pressure and violating her human rights.

One thing is for sure the pair were lying before they were suspects. Then RS threw AK under the bus by withdrawing his alibi and she started implicating an innocent man.

Then 4 years later he reinstates his alibi.

They have lied and lied. So no smoking gun, but a lack of clarity and inability to remember the same thing.

And there is evidence - it's just that one bit of evidence alone isn't enough. That's why there were released but when you consider all the evidence together it creates a damning picture.

mercibucket · 01/02/2014 17:07

nope

this is like 70s policing in the uk, and why we now have video recordings of evidence, and thorough forensics. it is also why the 90s onwards saw the release of victims of miscarriages of justice

BratinghamPalace · 01/02/2014 17:08

Does anyone remember the G8 riots in Genoa? Have a quick read on line about the Italian police, their behaviour and attitude. And put that against EVERYTHING AK said when held by them, without a lawyer and speaking poor Italian. For me, all of it should wiped from the records.
