to consider applying to go on Don't Tell the Bride?

The prospect of a £12,000 wedding is very appealing.
But what would be letting myself in for?!
(what would your other half do?)
I'm not particularly demanding (though I'd probably have to pretend to be for the show)... what's the worst that could happen?

(OH is into motorcycles, ACDC and his godawful "rock" band)

(if anyone has any experience in applying please PM me - all I have is a "to apply email this address" no guidance)

YANBU at all!
If you get on the show you must keep us updated with all the inside gossip. Grin

SavoyCabbage · 30/01/2014 18:36

Yanbu. And as your dh to be has an interest, then you probably have a chance of getting on.

He could get ACDC wedding rings and you could go to the ceremony on a bike. He could base your dress on Nessa's dress from Gavin & Stacey.

Katz · 30/01/2014 18:37

There's a few dttb brides on Mumsnet.

VoldysGoneMouldy · 30/01/2014 18:38

Walking down the nave to "highway to hell"...

NewtRipley · 30/01/2014 18:41

Pretend to be a control freak

He pretends to be a money-wasting doofus

He pretends to choose something really tacky/inappropriate

You pretend to want only one sort of dress, but then love the one he chooses anyway

He borrows some money from his/your parents

It's all OK anyway because the production team makes sure it's not completely crap

Disclaimer:

I may be wrong in my assumptions

Gossipmonster · 30/01/2014 18:42

Don't the brides just tell the bloke the plan beforehand?

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 30/01/2014 18:45

The more unreasonable, demanding and diva/bridezillalike you are and the more clueless and useless he is the better.

NewtRipley · 30/01/2014 18:48

There was one with a Harley and sidecar and about 40 Harleys, so tell him not to do that, but the rock thing could be a great hook...

MuttonCadet · 30/01/2014 18:57

Tell him EXACTLY what you want beforehand.

Tell the production team you want the exact opposite.

Then act annoyed for the whole 2 weeks.

Objection · 30/01/2014 18:58

We're both quite rock and roll and we have a half formed plan in our minds to have a shotgun elvis wedding in vegas already.
I have crazy "anime" hair and he's quite heavy metal - is so I think we have a bit of a showbiz factor Confused or we can ham it up so it looks like one I guessGrin

Pancakeflipping · 30/01/2014 19:01

'll him to never ever plan a holiday abroad and then he does it. Those weddings have been interesting....

There was a thread about this a while ago with some brides who had been on it telling us what it was like.

BigW · 30/01/2014 19:04

You should absolutely do this! Why the hell not? I think you would have a good chance on getting on too, by the sound of things. Just be absolutely clear with him beforehand about anything that is important to you and post everything on mumsnet

dontcallmemam · 30/01/2014 19:07

Yes, yes please do.
DTTB is my guilty tv watching secret, I'm desperate to know how it all works. Please give us a daily update.

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 30/01/2014 19:09

I wish I had Grin DH ended up planning most of our wedding anyway and perhaps we wouldn't be in debt!

Still I think he would have chosen an 80s tastic dress or a horrible lacy one (actually nothing wrong with lace I just personally hate it).

I don't think you're allowed to tell them stuff beforehand, but if you're pretty much on the same page anyway then it should be fine. One of their "angles" is "Groom so in touch with what bride wants, how romantic. SOUL MATES!" (With the other three angles being "Groom has totally opposite taste to bride; groom has totally ridiculous outlandish taste; groom is an utter clueless selfish mess.)

OH has just told me it'd make good TV because he'd pick a certain friend, let's call him "wankbadger", to be his best friend.

I hate wankbadger with a ferocity.

OP posts:
kinkyfuckery · 30/01/2014 20:06

Oh yay, do it! I'd love to know the behind-the-scenes goss!

birdbrain21 · 30/01/2014 20:23

ooh yes another guilty pleasure watcher over here. You should definately apply nothing to lose! There was a thread ages ago with people talking about having been on it and iirc what people were saying was depends on the production team how the program is one person said they had a really horrible production who was trying to get her boyfriend to pick things they knew she wouldn't like to make a good show but it sounds like you both want the same thing anyway so should be okay...
Really hope you get on to it I would love to watch an episode where I 'know' the bride, not that I know you but mumsnetters are all connected Wink

IndigoTea · 30/01/2014 20:30

Go for it! But tell him to put 5K away for your honeymoon Grin

NewtRipley · 30/01/2014 20:32

Yes

Him and wankbadger and a couple of his tossier mates should go to Magaluf for a boozy weekend, and then give you and the girls £100 for a night at the local wine bar

dontcallmemam · 30/01/2014 20:33

bird we can all be guests/extras in the church. Wearing ridiculous MN hats!

Objection · 30/01/2014 20:36

If I get on - you can all come! [wide sweeping statement that I probably won't be able to fulfil Grin ]

OP posts:
ivanapoo · 30/01/2014 22:33

Yes the production team will "encourage" (read: manipulate) your DP to make decisions he might not have otherwise.

Bear in mind that you might not be able to have everyone you'd like at the wedding either, as you won't exactly be sending out "save the date"s.

birdbrain21 · 30/01/2014 22:34

ooh a mumsnet hat I love that idea don'tcall is there a mumsnet hat already or do we get to start the trend?! Grin

objection you don't have a say over the guest list so you better invite us all round now so your DP knows we exist and can invite us Wink

dontcallmemam · 31/01/2014 06:42

bird,if there is a MN hat I don't know about it. Shall we have multicoloured feathers?
