I do drink less than most of my male friends okay the taller heavier ones when we're out in a bar. It just means I skip a round. Halves are fine if they are half the price (which they are in some places now) but if I'm going to put back two pints of one specific ale, I'd rather not pay a half pint 'lady premium'.
I also drink champagne, prosecco, cocktails etc. DP has an exceptionally sweet tooth, so often his choice of cocktails will be on the pink side, where I'm more likely to order a dry martini or a sazerac or something. I assure you this is not to be macho on my part (I can take or leave chocolate but love savoury food) but we have had arsehole barmen in the past & the whole swapping glasses thing another poster mentioned.
Eating and drinking out is just full of sexist assumptions, although it's improving a lot (certainly in cities). I could rant a fair bit about meals in Italy...
Last time I was out with my old friends from uni in a CAMRA pub drinking dark ale, I was in a coat dress, with lots of jewellery, glittery nails and a bright pink handbag. I must've really confused the buggers. (Actually no-one batted an eyelid, but we were in the city centre).
I think hope this remains mostly a small town / LM class / shine your front step type of thing.
To answer the OP, it's a hell of a lot more ladylike (if that's your aspiration) to drink three pints of dark ale and go home than drink a ton of pink shite and vom all over the street. Although I'd rather make it gender neutral and suggest that a good replacement for ladylike is 'civilised' in the above sentence (certainly if it's a regular thing - I recognise lots of otherwise sensible people can get pissed and make an arse out of themselves occasionally).
