If you drink beer you can still be a lady...

watching some crap day time TV and a man (on a dating show) said he likes a girly girl who drinks wine, he would go for that type over a girl who drinks a half a pint because they are lady like.
I like the taste of beer and can't stand the taste of most types of wine, but still like to think I act lady like.
I also know ladies who drink wine and are not lady like.

It wasn't the Greek guy off Dinner Date was it?? Grin
I saw it too and it made me cringe a little inside when he said it....

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 28/01/2014 12:24

I like men who let you know upfront they are sexist cunts . SO much easier to avoid that way.

Anyway if he knew anything about beer, He would know why women love it. ANd I could never love a man who drank shit beer.

heatseeker · 28/01/2014 12:33

I confess it was dinner date Blush haha it wasn't the Greek guy, although he made me cringe when he said his girl should sort her hair out for him before he woke up, so he would think 'hey beautiful', he was one creepy guy.
It was one of the other men at the start when the lady was deciding which menu to choose.

I love beer, especially real ale. Bollocks to anyone who says its not lady like. I wouldn't want to go out with a bloke who had that attitude.

dawntigga · 28/01/2014 12:33

lady is patriarchal twaddle for keeping women in line, also I drink pints.

KellyElly · 28/01/2014 12:36

Does anyone actually waste brain space on worrying if they are acting 'lady like'. I just act like myself and don't give nonsense labels like that a second thought.

5Foot5 · 28/01/2014 12:38

I like both beer and wine and have always loathed attitudes like the one you describe. In my younger days I have been known to deliberately order a pint in that sort of situation.

In my first year of work when I was very much the new girl (and probably looked a good deal younger and more innocent than I really was!) we all went out to the pub one lunch time and one of the senior men on the team asked me in an oh-so-patronising voice "And what would 5foot like?" I simply couldn't resist asking for a pint of bitter please.

DontGiveAwayTheHomeworld · 28/01/2014 12:38

I pretty much only drink beer, but then I've never been accused of being ladylike! I'm at my worst when I'm on the cocktails, the amount of booze in them makes me more loud and sweary than usual.

Thewomancalledjayne I haven't got a bloody clue I drink it but I'm not a wine drinker at all!!
Maybe he thinks I'll look ladylike Wink I need to ask him when he comes in from work!

MrsKoala · 28/01/2014 12:56

When i went to uni i was an outcast because i drank pints. The first night everyone from our halls went out and i ordered a pint. The gasps were audible and none of the girls/women spoke to me again after that. The next morning i woke to posters in the hall saying 'my name is Koala, i am woman, hear me roar'. The girls/women thought the fact i was a feminist was ugly and hilarious.

They used to order 2 half pints and stand with one in each hand. Confused How can you hold your fag???

LaurieFairyCake · 28/01/2014 12:58

I only drink pints

I don't give a fuck what anyone thinks, in fact if anyone I worked with said anything about not being 'ladylike' I'd likely call them a cunt just to confirm it. Grin

MrsKoala · 28/01/2014 12:59

I went to a ball recently and stood in my full evening dress drinking pints of guinness. DH was in mess dress drinking vodka and lemonade. Whenever we get served the pint is always put in front of him an the V&L has a pink straw in it gets given to me. We swap and DH asks for a sparkler Grin

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 28/01/2014 12:59

I expect man like that would just want a woman to sit there and look pretty. Not a man worth dating.

pointythings · 28/01/2014 13:01

I like beer and cider, and have always drunk pints. I remember being in a pub in Dublin and having a pint of Guinness, and actually the men said they liked seeing a girl choose a pint rather than a half... Then they explained the rules of hurling to me. It was a great afternoon.

Custardo · 28/01/2014 13:03

Question: what is the definition of a lady in this scenario and why should you aspire to be one?

I drink pints.

FiscalCliffRocksThisTown · 28/01/2014 13:04

It is a very old fashioned, and lower-middle-class, stance IMO.

the whole notion of being "ladylike" really is.

MorrisZapp · 28/01/2014 13:04

What fresh hell is this? I've heard it all now.

I'd be more worried about my social cachet if I plastered endless pathetic wine gags all over FB, for my tottering pals to say LOLZ to.

You don't see beer drinking broads doing that, do you?

The day I post a faux old fashioned postcard asking if it's 'wine o'clock' please take me to Betty Ford, and sort me the fuck out.

heatseeker · 28/01/2014 13:10

Mrs Koala Grin at DH asking for a sparkler.

Dawndonnaagain · 28/01/2014 13:11

I drink pints, always have, always will. I can do Lady Bracknell type ladylike if it's required, other than that, sod off, I'll do what I like thanks and morons akin to this chap can go dangle their bits in the pond for all I care!

heatseeker · 28/01/2014 13:12

'lolz' makes me feel a bit stabby .... I am losing composure now Grin

Dwerf · 28/01/2014 13:14

I drink pints. Preferably of real ale, I love a nice CAMRA pub. Hell, I've even been to breweries.

Mind you, I would piss myself laughing if anyone called me a lady.

formerbabe · 28/01/2014 13:18

I went to the bar to buy me and my dh a drink. He wanted a pint...I had to carry it back to him. In all honesty I was so embarrassed to hold it thinking everyone will think its mine!

I hate beer. I think a glass of wine in hand looks nicer than a pint, but I couldn't care less what other women drink.

Megrim · 28/01/2014 13:20

I like wine and I like lager.

Just not in the same glass. It's not ladylike to mix your drinks.

ShoeWhore · 28/01/2014 13:22

I agree who the hell wants to be a lady?

I'm all woman Grin and I like a pint.

koala where did you go to uni? At my uni we all drank pints sometimes of cinzano and lemonade ugh
