How long do/did you dress your baby in baby gros during the day before it became unreasonable?

Ok I know it's not unreasonable I was just trying to fit it in the titled section that I have done!!

When shall I dress my 7 week old in proper day clothes?

5 months here, then the weather got hot so switched to rompers or vest and shorts. Once summer was over he went into proper clothes.

rabbitlady · 23/01/2014 12:24

until the health visitor complained. i think baby was about three months. i loved to see her in a grobag and a cardigan. she was a cosy, snuggly little bean. dresses irritate.

SomethingkindaOod · 23/01/2014 12:25

Horatia DSis 13 and I still have issues with sportswear now! He's in a track suit bottoms and hoodie phase though and I'm losing this particular battle...

SomethingkindaOod · 23/01/2014 12:25

DS. Not DSis.

doodahwhatsit · 23/01/2014 12:26

until she can crawl etc

I got millions of clothes as presents for each DC, generally nice and soft comfy clothing so they wore that from the morning but I had a one poo rule, i.e if the outfit was covered in explosive poo - generally once a day until weaning then the baby grows went on until the next morning - or poo . . .

JRmumma · 23/01/2014 12:28

Only reason DS had any clothes was because they were bought as gifts. We had to swap most if them anyway as he was in tiny baby for ages and then all of the outfits weren't weather appropriate. So until about6 weeks it was baby grows or vest with cotton trousers and a cardigan.

When he went into 0-3 stuff it was the same, plus some cotton dungarees.

My DH is obsessed with DS having jeans but i hate them. He cant move in them and they are a nightmare when doing nappies. Now he is in 3-6 (and fast growing out of it) he has more proper clothes but its jogging bottom type things and soft jumpers mainly, or daytime babygtow/rompers. He only wears jeans if DH dresses him.

For 6-12 months ive got proper clothes but all soft stretchy ones so he can move freely and learn to crawl etc.

For me, him having freedom of movement is the most important thing.

JRmumma · 23/01/2014 12:32

Also- re jeans, one pair we got as a gift were so uncomfortable for DS that they made him cry. Proper jean material. Avoid at all costs!!! And make sure trousers have elasticated waists, not rigid ones with buttons.

Chipandspuds · 23/01/2014 12:35

DS had a few outfits which were bought for him, but apart from that, I dressed him in babygrows until he was about 6 months old. It's just so much easier and more comfortable for the baby IMO. I would do the same again and if people don't like it that's up to them :)

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 23/01/2014 12:35

About 6 months? After 3 months it was mainly outfits and occasional babygros - usually the bright ones for daytime.

With DD1 she was in dresses and outfits during the day from the first few weeks...

DD2 is 7 months old in a couple of days and she lives in baby grows unless its a special occasion like a party or Christmas. Makes her feel like a little baby for longer, and much easier & more comfortable.

DH however is annoyed at all the wasted DD1 clothes Wink

lljkk · 23/01/2014 12:44

Onesies are so fashionable, at least 4-8yrs old (I am not joking).

LittleBabySqueakSqueak · 23/01/2014 12:44

DD was in proper clothes for going out from about 3 weeks old. I was terrified that some nameless "they" would think I wasn't looking after her properly and take her away. I don't like jeans on little babies because I don't think they look comfy, but she's happy enough in soft cords, leggings and dresses. She's 4 months now and enjoys playing with her dresses, in the same way that she feels and explores her toys. DH and I wouldn't wear sportswear except for sport, so we don't put DD in it either.

I'm less anxious now, but I like her cute little outfits and at the moment she's comfy, things might change when she's moving about. DH on the other hand would have her in babygros all the time because they're easy, comfy and practical.

Lj8893 · 23/01/2014 12:45

My dd has just turned 12 weeks and I suddenly realised she has all these outfits that people have bought her in size 0-3months that she hasent worn and will soon be too big for them so I've started dressing her in outfits during the day (apart from the odd lazy day).

Also when she's into 3-6months I have loads of outfits but not so many babygrows so it makes sense for me to keep dressing her in outfits during the day.

Lj8893 · 23/01/2014 12:46

But I still prefer her in softer clothing rather than stiff dresses etc. she likes wearing long tops and dresses as she can pull and play with the fabric.

CrohnicallyFarting · 23/01/2014 13:02

I dressed DD from day one, in things like loose leggings and envelope neck tops, with the occasional dress. I was told it would help her differentiate night and day if I got her changed each morning and night, not sure how true that is though.

Barbeasty · 23/01/2014 13:17

We do a mixture but at 13 months DS still wears them in the day- he has pyjamas for night time.

He is walking, but small- he fits perfectly into his 6-9 months babygrow. I love seeing the double takes as people think the walling baby must be much younger than he is.

Although from the day he was born he has managed to get his feet sticking out half way down the legs.

Pascha · 23/01/2014 13:21

I don't get whats so easy about babygros. After about 12 weeks the poppers just do my head in so my boys were in pyjamas at night and soft trousers/dungarees & vests in the day from then, if not earlier. Much much easier and no swearing because I've got all the poppers wrong and have to start again.

perfectstorm · 23/01/2014 13:35

About 9 months, after which it was t shirts and leggings until maybe 1 or so? They're just comfier in soft cotton jersey. And I used babygrows as pyjamas until they stopped selling them in that size, which I think is 18 months to 2? Just comfy and practical. I used really soft cardies and jumpers for warmth over the top.

I hate seeing little babies in stiff materials with buttons and collars - I always wonder how their parents would like having to sleep in them? And they have skin far thinner and more sensitive than us, too.

SoonToBeSix · 23/01/2014 15:15

Until around 6 /7 months

Thatballwasin · 23/01/2014 15:22

DCs are 7 and 4, insisted I bought them a onesie each so they're basically still wearing babygros...

bodygoingsouth · 23/01/2014 15:26

by dc4 I was cutting the feet off the babygros and putting socks on her.

I luffs babygros

dd3 though after 2 boys was in frilly dresses early on until they got pooed on and sicked on and thought stuff that.

7 weeks is tiny op, do what suits you.

dogindisguise · 23/01/2014 15:28

I used baby grows until mine were crawling.

KarmaVersusGeorgeOsbourne · 23/01/2014 15:28

Another thing I didn't realise until MN was the headband-on-baby thing. I am quite proud that I worked this out for myself. My mum brought round an outfit for DD (aged about a month at this point) given by my aunt. It was a lovely little jersey dress with wheelbarrows on the pockets- I still have it. The matching flowery headband was attached. I put the dress on DD and of course, automatically added the flowery headband too- it was part of the outfit, yes?

Mum and I watched in mute horror as DD's little fontanelle pulsed away, restricted by the headband, which was swiftly removed and never mentioned again Grin

bodygoingsouth · 23/01/2014 15:28

ThatBallWasIn yes mine now range from 24 to 13 and all had onsies for Christmas. funny as.
