to ask what you think about nose piercing?

Just wondering, really. I've always considered getting one done (nostril, not a septum piercing) and thought it would suit my face. But it's never seemed like the right time, and now I'm in my mid 30's.

I've been split from my ex for a few months, kind of need a pick-me-up and have come back to the idea. Would it be a really naff thing to do? Also, (stupid questions, maybe) when it heals is it uncomfortable?

I had one when I was younger (a very small silver ball stud) and loved it. Only took it out when I started teaching. Go for it Smile

It's not that awful Downstairs.

It's doable and the pain is quite quick.
I had my nose pierced by gun years ago (before I had my current nose piercing done by needle) and funny enough it was much less painful - until it got infected, that is.....

Grew up in punk era. Pink/blue hair and pearcings are just a bit attention seeking to me now. Fair enough if you really like them. But to me it just says "look at me, I'm different" but without any substance behind it.

Ahh yes I remember girls at school getting their nose done with the gun - it's not allowed now is it? You are brave getting your downstairs bits done!

I had mine done at 16 and still have it 20 years later! I have a small sparkly stud now rather than the ring.

The problem with cartilage piercings is some of them go funny. Dh had two earring in the ops of his ears proably 20 years ago and he still has little black bruise spots? Confused

I had my nose pierced when I was a teenager.. they get full of boogers to be honest...and I'd feel a bit too old for one now (30)

wet - I think what you mean is 'some people think they look vile' not they are vile, different things appeal to different people. I'm sure there are some people who find judgemental sneeriness attractive.

blah - Dykey? Do you really think that's an ok phrase to use in this century?

"Dykey"?! really?

Yes, get it done op!

I reported that post. Horrible phrase and I don't look "dykey" thanks for the concern though.

It wouldn't worry me too much at work, it wouldn't be outside the norm in my field. Hmm. When I've asked people who know me what they think, the usual response has been to look twice and say "What? Oh, sorry, I just assumed you had one..."

So many people have them now, I hadn't really thought of it as being attention seeking. Is it really that much different than cheering yourself up with a new haircut or colour?

Dykey.. What a beautiful and accurate word Hmm. I forgot, of course, that piercings are an indication of one's sexual preferences. How sad that you seem to find the idea of lesbianism so upsetting that you will talk about it, and what you believe to be associated with it, in such a negative manner..

How funny too, that most of the girls I know who have sex with girls don't have any unusual piercings. In fact my flatmate's marrying her female fiancée in a couple of months. Would you believe they both have long hair, wear dresses and high heels and all sorts? Neither have a piercing between them..

For what it's worth I have a nose piercing, very short hair that's half bleached and I wear a hoodie more often than not. Probably quite dykey and 'rough' looking from the outside.

I also curl up with a teddy every night, the hoodie tells people I'm Catholic and a student, and I spend my days caring for my family. I'm also heterosexual, a virgin, tee total and one day hope to work as a speech therapist with patients suffering from neurological conditions.

Funny that - the tiny hole in my nose with a little titanium stud doesn't seem to have an impact or any indication on whether I can work well in a job, or on my sexuality, etc etc..

To anyone who thinks they've missed their chance or are too old for a nose piercing, my mother recently got a nose piercing. She's in her mid 50s and a manager in a professional career. She looks great, go for it!

Go for it! Nostril piercings seem to be perfectly acceptable in most jobs now, so you don't have that to worry about. A small stud is hardly noticeable to most people. Don't forget to er, "check" your tissue when you've blown your nose, though. I've lost a lot of studs that way! Just pop a ring in when you've got a horrid cold and it should stay put.

Definitely definitely definitely get it done with a needle rather than a gun, though. I've had it done both ways and the gun is awfully painful and generally horrible and unhygienic etc.
Good luck :)

i had mine done, i think it was my favourite, looking back. i also had a septum piercing. that bloody hurt.

I don't really like looking at facial piercings if I'm totally honest, it makes me feel funny. Also, it attracts attention to the nose, which isn't always the nicest thing to keep looking at.

You wouldn't care about my opinion though, I'm guessing- there's lots of people who do appreciate them and think they look ace. I wouldn't think less of anyone with them, it's more a matter of personal preference and perhaps a bit of squeamishness as well.

I've had mine 20 years, I have a very small ring. I like my nose, which helps. Got it done at Glastonbury as a last hurrah when I was a student.

When I had it done, my dad said it would put employers off. I was offered a job the following Week.
