to ask what you think about nose piercing?

Just wondering, really. I've always considered getting one done (nostril, not a septum piercing) and thought it would suit my face. But it's never seemed like the right time, and now I'm in my mid 30's.

I've been split from my ex for a few months, kind of need a pick-me-up and have come back to the idea. Would it be a really naff thing to do? Also, (stupid questions, maybe) when it heals is it uncomfortable?

Looks nice when it's a small one, not a ring. Though my sister (in her mid 30s) have one, and I can always see it inside her nose, she's a bit taller than me... And so it looks a bit like she's got a permanent boogey up there :P But a friend of mine got one, and you can't see the other end so its fine!

Im 47 and still wear a ring in my nose. I have no intentions of ever taking it out. I loves it. I was in my 30s when I had it done. Ihad wanted it done since I was a teenager but for various reason didnt. I then moved to the USA in 1987 and then having more than 1 hole in your ear was considered OTT. I married a very controlling conservative man and stayed married for 12 years. I had it done not long before I threw him out 1. because Id always wanted it done and 2. cos I knew it would PISS him off :o. Win Win situation actually :o

nouvelle you should try putting the blunt end of a needle through where the hole was, its a little bit eye-watering but not so bad as getting re-pierced grin, then put in the thinnest stud you can get.

I went to get one in my late teens and freaked out a little as the gun came towards my nose , I like them and if you want it get it you can always take it out

you might find the hole is still there. I hadn't worn a nose stud for over 10 years and this is how I re-opened mine.

I have a tiny nose stud and don't look like me if I'm not wearing it. I had my nose pierced at 26 and have never regretted it. I like it and couldn't give a stuff what anyone else thinks.

I had mine done when I was 19 and wore it for years, through office jobs, client visits and all sorts. I only stopped because baby DD pulled out the stud, I couldn't find where it had gone and before I could get a replacement (was in the middle of a house move, it took a few days to get to a shop) the hole closed up. :( I'm going to get it re-pierced once I've finished having grabby babies!

I have a ring in now, I'm a care assistant and it's not been a problem at all- go for it, you can always take it out

I like them. I think it makes people look more 'interesting', not that I have anything against people without them.

I got mine when I was 18, hadn't worn it for a long time but recently started to wear it again, as I'd noticed more people with them & decided I'd like to wear mine again (except when I have a cold, which is usually most of the winter ).

Used to wear a ring when younger but only wear a sparkly stud now.

Actually, when I think about it...

All other things being equal, I would possibly feel more drawn to (as in, want to chat, maybe make friends) a person with a nice nose stud, than that same person without.

And yeah, the people who would find them distasteful are not the people I'd generally spend time with. So if it deters people I don't want to chat to anyway, that's no bad thing.

Thing is though, as much as I don't agree with wetaugust and others, if you alter your appearance in a visible and prominent way, as I have, you have to accept that some people won't approve and that their reactions could range from repulsion to mild disdain.

OP, some people probably will think a nose piercing is naff, some probably will think "sad old hippy" (in your words!) but what does it matter? That's why I don't canvas opinions every time I get a new tattoo - the important thing is being comfortable with your own decisions for your own reasons and not take it to heart when others are critical.

I'd love to get mine done but I have a great big honk and I strongly suspect it will look ridiculous! There's a teacher at DD's primary school who has a dainty little diamond piercing and it looks stunning. Funnily enough since she started I've seen a bit of an upsurge in nose piercings among the mum's in the playground
Am going to settle for getting a tattoo this year, a present to myself after a fairly tough twelve months.

You know what I find repulsive? People who are so shallow that they would judge you based on a little bit of metal in your skin. To be honest anyone that does that isn't someone I'd like to get to know anyway so I consider my piercings a sort of detector

For the record I have lots, some you can see and some you can't. I wear a ring in both my nose and my lip. I'm 40. Trust me,a shit is not given what people think of me.I'm comfortable and happy in my own skin thanks and if you want to pierce you're nose or anywhere else op you go for it.

And for the person who said upthread that ASDA don't allow them - I work there and I've only ever had a problem when I wore a nose ring instead of a stud. My manager doesn't care that I have 11 piercings. In fact, none of the managers seem to care. I wear small studs, no rings and nothing flashy or that's in-your-face. In fact, everyone on my department has some kind of piercing or tattoo and nobody cares

I had mine done about 6 months ago ( I am an old hippy) I wear a tiny diamond and I love it.

I have a managerial position in a charity and spend a lot of time in the community. I have just been promoted....my employers couldn't care less about my piercing.
