To be scared by moving bin bag? Wwyd?

I live in a Victorian semi, bay window on front, front door at side down a (private, mind only) path that also leads to my back gate. Neighbour that I'm not joined to has same so their front door is opposite mine they also have a path to back gate, path is split in half by 3foot wall all along.

So, lots of extra rubbish recently, dh works abroad a lot, I don't drive so have to wait for him to come back to go to tip. Our wheelie bin is outside our front door and about two foot to the right. Currently full, dh in poland.

Bear with me it gets more interesting Grin

I put two black bin bags out the front of my door and to the right by the bin.

Went out last week, came back and one of the bin bags was right in front of my door in the middle of the steps. I thought 'weird' but was so busy just forgot about it. Friday I went to pick children up from school, bin bag my right of door. Came back, came in house. Hour later I opened door to let cat out and the bin bag is on my steps again right in the middle. Freaked out as dh still away and next door were broken into recently. Saw next door and asked them, they say not them, (I could understand sort of if was as it is next to ish their front door but would expect them to just speak to me, they're nice we get on ok) but that a different neighbour who lives opposite and a good 40/50 foot away on other side of a road, had been moaning about my bin bags.

Tonight, left house, bin bag where I put it. Went and picked children up, got back (20 mins) and there was the bin bag in the middle of my steps again in front of my door. Really freaked out as twice it's happened when I've gone to pick children up so is he watching me leave??

I know the type of person to do this is unlikely to be a murderer (!) but aibu to feel totally freaked out and scared? And what should I do?

Maybe it is being moved in protest as you are letting it build up?

Noregretsatall · 21/01/2014 21:33

If it's newspapers from the rabbits cages, they can be recycled. Hay, cats litter (if you use it; we do) is normally compostable. We compost all our rabbit waste - it would save the bin bags. Hope you get to the bottom of it!

Dromedary · 21/01/2014 21:38

They obviously think you're letting the neighbourhood down. I doubt the police would be interested. Can't you leave rubbish at the back of your house?

BillyNotQuiteNoMates · 21/01/2014 21:40

Ah, I've got it - food dye on the top of the bag! Let them explain that away! Just call me Sherlock, from now on! Wink

RosaParksIsBack · 21/01/2014 21:56

Pigs mummy - yes I think they are but it would have been simpler just to come and speak with me. this feels really horrible.

Can't put in back garden as dogs would rip so going to b&q at weekend to get another bin for out back so can keep there instead.

I do appreciate we are letting neighbourhood down :D although it is only me and my directly next door neighbours who can see it I think. Am definitely going to try composting thank you. Just think this is a horrible way for whoever it is to try to 'fix it'

You have to dress up as a bin bag!

NewtRipley · 21/01/2014 22:17

Do you leave the bins out not on collection day? If so you'll attract foxes or rats. Get a metal bin to put them in.

YANBU to be annoyed by PA from someone, though

RevoltingPeasant · 21/01/2014 22:18

Yes, and the way to make them think you add class to the neighbourhood is clearly to hide naked in a bin bag wearing a Halloween mask Hmm

........Grin

NewtRipley · 21/01/2014 22:20

Write a message in chalk on the path/pavement under the bin bag.

Something like:

Oi!
Hello!

or a Smiley face

NewtRipley · 21/01/2014 22:21

or

"I love you"

Charm them

tethersend · 21/01/2014 22:26

Every hour, go out and move the bin bag a couple of feet closer to the neighbour's house until, when they wake in the morning, it's looking through their window.

NewtRipley · 21/01/2014 22:28

And on the final move, pin a smiley face on the front.

Dirty Protest.

sharonosaurus · 21/01/2014 22:34

Im not advising a dirty protest btw Blush

Its just my name for this thread.

Excitedforxmas · 21/01/2014 22:40

Put a note under it saying smile you're on camera!

aintnothinbutagstring · 21/01/2014 23:02

Have you got any old battery powered toys that go off at the slightest touch, we have a vtech baby camera that says 'smile, say cheeese' and some annoying happy clappy songs or an old bob the builder phone that says 'hello, bob speaking' that shit us up when they go off randomly when the DC are in bed.

Dinnaeknowshitfromclay · 22/01/2014 21:33

Dying t know the answer by the way!

Ponyinthepool · 22/01/2014 21:41

OP could someone be taking a passive aggessive stand against you putting your garbage NEXTO the bins rather than IN the bins? My neighbours do this and I've been bring it back into the building for them too...

Ponyinthepool · 22/01/2014 21:42
  • been tempted to.
RosaParksIsBack · 22/01/2014 21:45

It's definitely because of putting it next to bins not in, but that's because bin was full.

No news today, dh picked children up from school and his car was here so I assume neighbour doesn't do it when 6'3 dh is around Hmm

I'm working away tmrw so will have to see what Friday brings...

sewingandcakes · 22/01/2014 21:50

I agree with Ponyinthepool; it's a passive aggressive attempt to say that they don't like your bin bags being out; they probably don't have the confidence to approach you!

Pipbin · 22/01/2014 22:55

I want to know what happened. I'm sure it was the neighbour.

Doubtfuldaphne · 22/01/2014 23:30

I have to share my bin bag hell story
Me and dh moved to a very posh road years ago. It was a flat but most of the properties on the rd were large townhouses. We left our rubbish out the night before the bin men were due. Apparantly that's a massive faux pas on this rd and were greeted in the morning with all the bags opened and dumped on dh's car bonnet!! With a poison pen letter from a neighbour. She was a really well to do lady and I was shocked! Unfortunately for her, people had seen her do it and we left her a letter through her door saying that next time she wanted to do any criminal damage she should smile for the camera as we had we on CCTV (we didn't but it worked and we felt a bit better after)
I would sick a note on your bin liner for whoever moves it. "Leave me alone" or words to that effect might be good.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 23/01/2014 00:45

I am Shock at this thread! Definitely catch them at it! Cheeky beggars!

OpalQuartz · 23/01/2014 01:36

She won't be very popular with the bin men if she starts putting super glue, food dye and dogshit on the bin bag with bricks inside. Wink Seeing a naked op in the bin bag might brighten their day though. Smile
