£475k isn't exactly affordable mind, but WTF?

Food the Teddington results are good but not 100%! 74% 5 or more A*-Cs inc Maths and English.

foodismyfriend · 15/01/2014 20:26

ah that's where I must've got confused IHeart there's a sign in the school saying 100% A* - C in 2012 but it was near the maths corridor so must've been just for maths

GideonKipper · 15/01/2014 20:27

As a pp said, this is depressing. It is simply not sustainable to have house prices at these levels.

uptheanty · 15/01/2014 20:29

Grim Sad

IHeartKingThistle · 15/01/2014 20:30

People pay it in Teddington, which is even more depressing.

NewtRipley · 15/01/2014 20:31

The price for the location doesn't really surprise me, but man that house is ugly

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 15/01/2014 20:31

But that's only one of the schools... Excellent primaries, 35 mins to Waterloo, you've got the Thames, Bushy Park, a couple of miles into Richmond/Kingston...

All the hand wringing and outrage at the price is entirely futile. That's how much it costs to live in that area, even in such an ugly house. The market has spoken - and you can bet the sale will go to sealed bids too.

NewtRipley · 15/01/2014 20:32

Wibbly

yy. I agree. The market is ridiculous though

Morgan · 15/01/2014 20:35

Friend of mine just bought a large'ish 5 bed family house in Teddington for 2.6m - yikes Blush

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 15/01/2014 20:36

Newt - it is crazy. I don't live there now but have a flat there. A flat - 2 bed, nothing special really. We bought a few years back - the previous owner doubled his money in just 6 years. So a clear £150,000 profit. I haven't had our place valued for ages so no idea what it would go for now...

NewtRipley · 15/01/2014 20:38

I live in NE London and the houses I can think of for that price are at least attractive large Victorian terraces with a decent-for-London-garden.

bigkidsdidit · 15/01/2014 20:41

It's just a horrible house!

Who is buying these? I guess people who've had similar price rises in their houses? I can't imagine rich Russians wanting to live in that Confused

AnneEyhtMeyer · 15/01/2014 20:41

It is also handy for Heathrow.

wetaugust · 15/01/2014 20:52

Some people are going to get very burnt fingers Shock

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 15/01/2014 20:59

Wet - you say that but even through the recession, prices didn't really drop. They might have stagnated but they didn't fall.

Bigkid - the people I know who buy tend to be wealthy parents who move for the schools. High price for a house but you then save on private fees (not me btw before anyone judges!).

It is a very desirable area - well, it'd have to be to think that monstrosity could fetch that much. But it will.

wetaugust · 15/01/2014 21:20

Wibbly - that house is not worth getting on for £1.5m in a sustainable housing market.

I cannot imagine anyone buying that house at that price - if they do then more fool them.

The quality of the local school can go down as well as up.

In the 1990s I had a house that peaked at £180K. I sold it 2 years later for £120K.

A realtive bought at £51K in the same period and couldn't get £28K when they wanted to move.

I have seen house prices go down. People are being really stupid if they think they will always be increasing.

An interest rate hike will send the market into a tailspin.

Crowler · 15/01/2014 21:22

You'd get a nice Victorian in a OK part of Fulham/Putney/Shepherds Bush/Hammersmith for this price. Hence my surprise.

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/01/2014 21:34

I am eternally grateful I live in Wales, where that kind of money would buy a beautiful house not an ugly box. Crikey!

KeepNaanAndCurryOn · 15/01/2014 21:36

This is what you get for your money around here.

TheZeeTeam · 15/01/2014 21:56

I honestly think if I ever was at a point where I was taking a sizeable mortgage out to live in a house as ugly and enclosed as that, in somewhere as dull as Teddington, I would be questioning my life choices.

RevoltingPeasant · 15/01/2014 22:09

For Devon? Try Dartmouth!

RevoltingPeasant · 15/01/2014 22:13

I give you this cottage in Dartmouth for 1.5m

RevoltingPeasant · 15/01/2014 22:15

By contrast in the suburbs of Plymouth you can get this for a third of the price

Ja9 · 15/01/2014 22:16

I am ShockShockShock

You could get a beautiful mansion for that price in Central Scotland... That house isn't even that nice!!

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 15/01/2014 22:18

Did no-one see last week's Teddington property? A ramshackle, empty house with no kitchen - well no anything really and the two previous occupiers BURIED IN THE GARDEN for £650k! Oh, and no off street parking.

After that, this house seems quite reasonable for the same area! Grin
