£475k isn't exactly affordable mind, but WTF?

I think this is the house:

maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Waldegrave+Road,+teddington&hl=en&ll=51.430792,-0.337355&spn=0.003472,0.006539&sll=51.241515,-0.565423&sspn=0.111121,0.209255&hnear=Waldegrave+Rd,+Teddington,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=18&layer=c&cbll=51.430792,-0.337355&panoid=0e0zVWzYVKmLPetN_Sywdg&cbp=12,347.78,,2,0.52

(There is a gap in the streetview coverage).

It doesn't really look like a millionaire's gaffe does it?

Main road, no Aston Martins or Lamborghinis visible.

Five bedrooms, Teddington, it sounds about right[#] -- probably too high for that particular property, but in the right ballpark. We're in SW London but further in and you'd only get three or four bedrooms for that here (this is why we are stuck in a cramped flat with no garden Grin).

[#] for a given value of 'right' -- i.e. seems quite ridiculous but is apparently what the market will bear.

miffybun73 · 15/01/2014 15:17

Absolutely ridiculous.

This is a house near to me and so is more the kind of thing that I'd imagine when I see that kind of price.

The house in your link would be £275,000 max.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 15/01/2014 15:18

£275000 wouldn't buy you a one bed place in Teddington.

AgaPanthers · 15/01/2014 15:21

AnneEyhtMeyer so does Basingstoke.

They take about as long too.

This one is even on Richmond Road:

That is a truely ugly house, inside and out. You'd have to be deranged to spend that sort of money on it Shock

miffybun73 · 15/01/2014 15:24

I agree SummerRain

blahblahblah2014 · 15/01/2014 15:28

Same price.....but this is for a flat in a block!

hootloop · 15/01/2014 15:29

If I had a million and a half I wouldn't buy that.
But I have no connections to the place or any understanding of the local area or schools etc.
I am sure uf Teddington meant something to me as an aspirational place then I would think it worth it.

mollypup · 15/01/2014 15:33

or if you fancied venturing further north still, this up for sale close to me...you'd even get some change!

hootloop · 15/01/2014 15:33

Thinking about it, it seems quite often horrid looking places are very sought after. I have thought on many threads about where to live in/near Birmingham that the areas suggested are just horrible and you couldn't pay me to live there.

melika · 15/01/2014 15:35

If this was in a nice area in Birmingham it would cost no more that 150k! London is ridiculous, you get nothing for your money.

hootloop · 15/01/2014 15:39

It would cost more that 150k in Brum melika, My 2 bed 2 reception room terrace is worth 159k, and I am in South Yardley so not particularly nice.

TalkinPeace · 15/01/2014 15:41

Same money, same number of bedrooms round here

MrsGarlic · 15/01/2014 15:41

Oooh I grew up in Teddington in a 5-bed house. Parents bought it for £300k. It's now on the market for £2.5mil (outing myself completely here) which I think is mad but they've had several viewings already.

AgaPanthers · 15/01/2014 15:51

This one? www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-41694007.html

Seems to be relatively more justifiable as its twice the size and looks like a nicer location.

OP posts:
AgaPanthers · 15/01/2014 15:52

Would be interested to know where the £2.5m to buy the place come from, mind.

OP posts:
Artandco · 15/01/2014 15:55

Our 2 bed flat that we rent was valued at £1.3 million. It's rather average but in zone 2 London

MrsBethel · 15/01/2014 16:04

How utterly depressing.

ohhifruit · 15/01/2014 16:06

Wow, that is...ummm..well..I don't know what to say.
You'd pay about £80k for that in some parts of Manchester.

AgaPanthers · 15/01/2014 16:14

How much do you pay in rent Artandco?

OP posts:
missismac · 15/01/2014 16:15

About right for mad-crazy London prices. A hideous house, but . . .

DEVON???? WHere???

AgaPanthers · 15/01/2014 16:20
