To think hair length does not have anything to do with age?

Two colleagues at work were just talking about hair, colleague 1 (mid 20's with shoulder length hair) said she had a trim before xmas and will be keeping an eye on the length as she wouldn't want to get to "that point", colleague 2 looked confused, colleague 1 said "you know when its that length when you are too old for it and look nice from behind but turn round looking all haggard". Cue embarrassed looks as they both realised I could over hear and I have much longer hair (i'm only aged 35 by the way)

The cheeky bugger, since when can older people not have longer hair???

Would I be unreasonable to say to her its not her hair that is the problem its her face!

Exactly. Quite a few women where I live have had the lot shaved off for a baby's charity. I was tempted. I am thinking of giving mine to this charity? Am thinking of going short and choppy with slices of colour (purple?).

This is a friend of mine I think she looks amazing. those photos don't do her justice, but if I look half as good when I am her age I'll be be happy with that.

A girl I work with is like a walking work of art. She's always changing her hair colour. Really pretty too. She wears outrageous clothes even for work Grin They sent her home once for inappropriate dress. I love her! She's only 21 but can see her always being the same tbh?

I'm 30 and look awful with short hair. As does my my who is 50. Long hair is easier IMO, bung it up in a ponytail and that's it.

When I've had short hair it's taken much more effort to make it presentable.

She is beautiful Devonsmile - I saw a picture recently of a lady about her age with silver and pink ombre dead straight hair. It looked SENSATIONAL!

FreakinScaryCaaw - I say do it, I have a young friend with alopecia, I think charities like that are great.

I think I'll lose a bit more weight first, plus get married. Be nice to have my hair up for that. Then it's coming off.

Love her hair but she looks very thin, her legs are quite worryingly so.

I get my hair cut about shoulder length but then usually let it grow about 4 inches before I CBA to get it cut again.

I'm 53, but my hair is still natural straight blonde. Frankly I'd rather look younger from behind than older from both directions Grin. I like it, DH likes it, and crucially my 14yo DD likes it and says I don't look my age. I certainly don't act it all the time.

I recently spotted someone I was at university with. She always had shoulder length hair. Very fine and naturally curly. Lightish brown. It's a silvery grey now, still the same length and looks fabulous on her.

Confused

Diane keaton looks awful in that link! She looks far older than 68 and the hair cut looks completely unstyled. The suit does nothing for her except make her look like a mannequin with a grey wig.

Diane Keaton looks like a skinny man in drag. How can anyone say she looks good.

I think Diane Keaton looks great. Very sassy and not pretending to be 20 years younger.

Holly Hunter looked AMAZING with long grey hair in Top of the Lake!

Love Diane Keaton's look too. She's been owning those suits for years, and they're all back in fashion now, so she's the chicest of them all!

I do not like the short 'butch' hairstyles that some older women wear I.e. Mo from Eastenders. Sometimes a layered bob looks a lot classier.

What about girl children having to wear their hair long? How many girls do you know without shoulder length hair at least, either loose or in braids or ponytail? It takes a brave girl to have her hair cut short. Shorter hair means not having to think about it all the time. Hair length as a signifier of gender goes without anyone noticing it seems, let alone challenging it - another bit of not so subtle oppression.

Did I miss where she asked for your opinion dozey? You know the old adage "If you haven't got anything good to say, don't say anything at all", don't you?

Short hair for anyone past 30 used to be the rule when I was a hairdressing trainee many moons ago. It's all a load of tripe. You wear your hair however you choose and who fucking cares how old some stranger thinks you look from behind? Sheesh!

I cut my long hair a into a bob in my early 40s not because of my face looking old, but because my hair was getting thinner and more brittle. So I was ending up looking witch like with it all fuzzing out of my pony tail. It looks miles better shorter now.

I think short hair on some women has an ageing effect. A lady at work cut her hair short as soon as she turned 40 & she now looks 10 years older. It hasn't suited her at all & she now regrets having it cut so dramatically short. Think of Jo Brand's hair whereas when she had mid length hair she looked about 35.

It really does work both ways. There are plenty of people with long hair who would look better with short hair. Age is less of an issue than what suits you features but sadly lots of people either have strange ideas about what is age appropriate or they simply don't have much of an idea of what suits them and they don't make the best of themselves.

I have shoulder length hair now but I can't go any longer as it is too fine and the weight makes it v flat. I look better with short hair regardless of age.

I'm nearly 50 and I don't give a tiny shiny shit what people think about my hair/face.
It's great Grin
Just pity your colleagues OP.
