To think hair length does not have anything to do with age?

Two colleagues at work were just talking about hair, colleague 1 (mid 20's with shoulder length hair) said she had a trim before xmas and will be keeping an eye on the length as she wouldn't want to get to "that point", colleague 2 looked confused, colleague 1 said "you know when its that length when you are too old for it and look nice from behind but turn round looking all haggard". Cue embarrassed looks as they both realised I could over hear and I have much longer hair (i'm only aged 35 by the way)

The cheeky bugger, since when can older people not have longer hair???

Would I be unreasonable to say to her its not her hair that is the problem its her face!

Long hair does not suit some older women just as short hair doesn't.

I've just had a load of hair shaved and hacked off and it's taken years off me (I'm 30), so that doesn't seem to follow the logic of short=old.

My Mum had lovely long hair into her 40s and only shaved it off when she had to have chemo, it looked fantastic on her. So no, YANBU, hair length has nothing to do with age.

I think people should have their hair however it suits them best and/or however it makes them happiest. So, if an older woman wants long hair, why the hell not!?

I do think this works both ways - I think it is just as much of a shame that so few younger women don't have short hair. I am sure it would suit some of them better but it is rare to see younger women going for the chop. It's like if you are under 30 you have to have it long no matter what. Sometimes I pick DS1 up after school (he's at secondary) and all the girls almost entirely without exception have long hair. I just think it sad they can be individuals and at least some of them go for the chop. For some people, a short haircut would be an enhancement because it would suit their features so much better.

That is an excellent point- my 17 yr old would look utterly gorgeous with a short twenties-style bob, she's got a lovely-shaped head (yes, I'm her mother, I would say that ), but there is NO WAY she would even entertain the idea.

But the rule of "no long hair after a certain age " presupposes that all faces age at the same rate. If you've looked after your skin ( no sunbathing, moisturising, good diet etc) you can easily look a decade younger than you actually are. Likewise, if you've smoked for years, sunbathed to the hilt, and drunk a lot of alcohol, you can look a decade, or more, older than your peers - remember those "Ten Years Younger" programmes!

I am very tall, and have choppy hair I have started to wear behind my ears. People say I look years younger. In my head, I have swishy hair which always looks sexily tousled, as if David and I have just had a shagfest.

My DGM had waist length hair until the day she died, aged 86. I personally think shorter hair ages your face, although of course some people look stunning with it short too.
