to not think my new baby girl is beautiful?

Am i missing something? Surely i'm her mother, the hormones should be blinding me into seeing her as a beauty. Yes she's cute, she looks like a baby bird, all baldy with a few fuzzy bits on top. I love her to bits, she's a dream baby, way easier than her two big brothers were. But she's not pretty. I know she will be! Am I an unnatural parent for seeing her how she is!?

My newborn dd looked like Edward G Robinson! She became a stunningly beautiful woman.

I cannot say my children are ugly because they look so like me, that would be saying something about myself that I simply can't believe is true... surely Grin

my babies were premature well one was nearly on time , they looked liked baby birds baby birds are not beautiful are they , YBH i think it is something folk say about babies

perlona · 11/01/2014 14:24

A lot of babies are very ugly when they're born but they grow into their looks. Mine was beautiful, I felt so sorry for all the other mothersGrin

Dd was covered in hair like a monkey but had a beautiful face, as in regularly pretty, not fat or red, very serene looking.

Ds looked prem at birth, with tiny limbs and enormous balls and lots of wrinkles. He looked like Chairman Mao at 3 months. And he was about 1 1/2 when I first looked at him and thought "he's rather good-looking". But my love for him never changed.

Ds1 was the most perfect baby ever.

I was expecting a squishy, ugly thing but I was overwhelmed by how totally perfect he was.

Ds2 however Hmm squashy, bulgy eyed, funny colour and screaming blue murder. I actually asked the midwife if he was healthy Blush

He's a gorgeous boy now though.

My son was beautiful. Really beautiful. And still is ;)

But my daughter was born over-large, bloated from my iron tablets and just general... bloat. She came out fast so didn't have a bullet head, but her cheeks were utterly enormous and she was so sleepy we barely saw her eyes open. She kind of looked like a butternut squash. With tiny eyes. Oh, and she had no eyelashes or eyebrows.

Maybe being a secondtimer made me more realistic about her. I still adored her, and I simply felt content that she would grow into her face... or, y'know, we'd grow her hair or something.

Anyway, yeah, she eventually lost the bloat, normalised at 50%ile weight, face evened out, grew some eyebrows and now - beautiful!

Forgot to say DD still is a beauty at 3. I however downplay it when people compliment her on her beauty by saying, oh she is very smart too. It makes me feel uncomfortable for some reason. I guess i would like her to know that she has other positive things too which makes her the person that she is..
This thread has made Grin a lot.

DS1 was beautiful at birth - huge dark brown eyes with foot long eyelashes - looked like a baby seal. DS2 looked like a bit of old rope with orangey nylon troll hair. Grin. I wasn't able to kid myself about him as the midwife said "oh dear, he's a bit ...erm...auburn" Hmm as she handed him to me.

Worriedthistimearound · 11/01/2014 18:54

Ds1was a stunningly beautiful newborn and was even more beautiful after about 12wks. Stunning toddler too, very model like. Ds2 looked like Gollum until he was about 3, ugly with bald top and straggles at the back. Ds3 not a pretty newborn but much better after a few months.

But gosh was ds2 ugly.

smorticus · 11/01/2014 18:57

My dd looked like a very small version of Phil Mitchell when she was born. Thankfully she grew out of it when she was a few weeks old

BlessedAssurance · 11/01/2014 19:28

worried [ grin] that was funny, the gosh was ds2 ugly!!! I am pregnant with dc2 so we will see if he will be as flawless as his sister. DD came via c section so she has that to her advantageSmile
Is Gollum that horrible creature from LOTR movies? Can not remember.

DS1, DS2 and DS3 were all very chubby newborns and were all born vaginally. When they were born they had that "Augustus Gloop squeezed down the pipe" look. DS4 was born by C-section, 5 weeks early and a bit smaller (although still massive for a 35 weeker). I was upset about needing a C-section and one of the staff who was trying to make me feel better was telling me that babies born by ELCS were always very beautiful and calm at birth because they hadn't spent hours being squished beforehand. I had to laugh though because when DS4 was born he was covered in blood and gunk. He was also screaming and clearly furious that the dr had sliced open my womb and hauled him out. They are all gorgeous now though, although DS1 is about to go through the bugs bunny stage when their front teeth are too big for the rest of them and they have impossibly long legs.
