to not think my new baby girl is beautiful?

Am i missing something? Surely i'm her mother, the hormones should be blinding me into seeing her as a beauty. Yes she's cute, she looks like a baby bird, all baldy with a few fuzzy bits on top. I love her to bits, she's a dream baby, way easier than her two big brothers were. But she's not pretty. I know she will be! Am I an unnatural parent for seeing her how she is!?

I think that they start to get pretty around 3 months when their faces open up and they uncurl.

Of course not all babies become pretty at this stage. Some remain ugly always.

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 10/01/2014 20:13

My gorgeous 7 month old DS emerged looking like a pissed off hairy potato. I still thought he was divine.

FastWindow · 10/01/2014 20:15

Yy volvo i gave birth to Phil Mitchell too.

12 hours later he was was replaced by the most perfect, beautiful little girl.

Bettercallsaul1 · 10/01/2014 20:54

Ok, I'm going to buck the trend here!

I thought both my babies were beautiful as soon as they were born - my daughter had loads of dark hair and a tiny face and just looked like a perfect little doll! Not just mother's partiality because everyone seeing her said the exact same thing!

My son was nine and a half pounds, with beautiful, unwrinkled skin and wide-awake eyes. When we had his photo taken professionally a few weeks later, the photographer put an enlarged copy in the centre of his window and left it there for six months. I was a very proud Mummy.

LuciusMalfoyisSmokingHot · 10/01/2014 21:07

My DD had a chunky, squishy face at first, then she became a gorgeous little thing, at 4 months, i could have eaten her, newborn, not so much.

FutTheShuckUp · 10/01/2014 21:16

I don't think babies with loads of hair are cute thegreat- just goes o show how subjective looks are.
I remember ds had very bulgy eyes. I did have to chuckle when the discharging doc at just over a day old said 'are his eyes always like that?'
His eyes are gorgeous now like the rest of him

AwfulMaureen · 10/01/2014 21:18

My DD2 looked like a big, red potato. She was gorgeous but massive and red and her features were squished in. DD1 was perfect and dainty looking like a fairy....not sure why DD2 was so odd looking, she's GORGEOUS now she's not so spud like

FanFuckingTastic · 10/01/2014 21:19

They were all squished and covered in vernix, and looked like a weird cross between an old balding man and an alien. My boy fared better because he was a large baby with a full head of hair, so looked baby cute very quickly, but my poor daughter was baldy until she was two and had scrawny legs and a squooshed nose for a very long time.

They are both the most beautiful things in the world now of course. Look just like their mother.

SecretWitch · 10/01/2014 21:23

YANBU. My darling son was born at 32 weeks. He looked like an old man in an ill fitting suit. Apparently he spent a great amount of time lying on his left ear, which was bent nearly in half. He was not a thing of beauty..

Seventeen years later he has grown into a tall and handsome young man.

lola88 · 10/01/2014 21:44

DS looked like a wee rat that was dragged though a hedge backward then drunked in a bucket of gunk! then for about a month he looked like an alien with abnormally large eyes (from me) and hands and feet (from DP) then he looked like a sumo for 6 months now he is very good looking :)

AngelsInWinter · 10/01/2014 21:51

Dd1 looked like her dad wearing a dress.

Dd2 was bloody perfect. No blotchy skin, rashes, spots or anything. Everyone said she looked like me Grin

theoldtrout01876 · 10/01/2014 22:12

Ds1 looked like one of those coneheads from Saturday night live in the 70s but not blotchy or wrinkled

Ds2 looked like a prize fighter that had lost. My friend came to visit me in hospital and said well he WILL grow into that nose you know :o ( I hadnt noticed anything weird with his nose )

Dd1 was red,squalling and wrinkled

Dd2 looked like a doll,perfect skin,no blotches nothing. She was c-section though,the others were not :o

I do have 4 extremely attractive children now ( mind you the 3 older ones are all grown up now )

MyBaby1day · 11/01/2014 04:10

Aaww, I bet she's a little cutie!! Smile

mynewpassion · 11/01/2014 05:43

All the newborns I have seen look like little aliens. Yet, I still tell the parents their baby is beautiful. Of course, I am thinking to myself: not in physical features but in being born and enriching our lives.

gladbags · 11/01/2014 06:01

First reaction:
DC1 wow, she's stunning pfb
DC2 - aaaaagh, it's loathed-FIL in miniature, aaaagh.

Now they're both gorgeous and DC2 has grown out of being a fil-a-like.

OhMerGerd · 11/01/2014 07:03

DD1 was overdue by 4 weeks due to some experimental weirdness at the hospital she was born in and then her birth was traumatic as obviously it all became a bit of a panic to get her out. She was very long (she's nearly 6ft now!) had lost all the baby fat in situ so was scrawny, her head was misshapen due to squeezing by very high forceps, it looked like her nose had been broken (an ancestral quirk of DH family that had skipped his generation) and as her nails were growing she managed to scratch herself all over her face in the five minutes it took to wipe her over, check her breathing and hand her to me. It took 3 months for her fill out a bit and to start looking even vaguely baby like .
I adored her from day 1 but I knew she was quite... no not quite.... I knew she was an extremely unattractive baby. My DSis on the other hand had some sort of aunty blindness and thought she was the most beautiful baby that had ever graced the earth and had her photographs blown up to poster size, etchings made, t shirts printed, banners erected the lot.
We do laugh when we look back at those first months because with hindsight the evidence is plain ...Love is blind they say.... But hey She's this lovely long legged young lady, almost six foot and a head turning beauty now ...

Monkeyandanimal · 11/01/2014 07:18

Aw, these descriptions are priceless! And very touching. Thanks for sharing.
My heart aches when i hold my daughter tucked on my chest; she really is a blessing. And so chilled. She's definitely going to be tall and willowy like her auntie, she's so long now, with very long hands and feet. She will probably be a concert pianist with those hands. Or maybe not, I don't care, she can be what she likes (before somebody flames me for having too great expectations)

DD2 was like a prune, all eyebrows and grumpy expression Grin

I loved her to bits but she just wasn't gorgeous. She is beyond beautiful now Grin

JumpingJackSprat · 11/01/2014 08:48

I love the nobody has said their baby was ugly then and is still ugly now.

likeit · 11/01/2014 09:36

JumpingJackSprat-, my son is still rather unattractive. He will never be a good looking boy/adult. He's extremely average.

Hissy · 11/01/2014 09:43

My DS came out with a pointy head and a squished up face.

First thoughts were "Hmm Funny looking kid"

It wasn't until he was about 4m old that I saw his 'real face' before then he was generic (funny lookin') baby.

He's adorable now. He's 8 and my whole world! :)

FamiliesShareGerms · 11/01/2014 09:51

I remember looking at the angry red birth marks on DS's face and thinking "if it wasn't for those he'd be beautiful". (Feelings not helped by MW who kept commenting on them)

One of my friends had a baby and he was just the funniest looking thing ever. He actually looked like an old man on a baby's body and was pulling the strangest face on the photo that she distributed to us - I actually sort of went 'argh' when I opened it!

He is now 3 and is the beautiful little boy ever, I mean he is stunning.

And another friend had a girl who was a biiiiiig baby, well over 10 pounds. In the photo she looked liked a sumo wrestler, complete with heavy dark monobrow. Again, she is 5 now and she is just gorgeous.

Of course my own ds was gorgeous from the moment he was wrenched out with forceps. The bruises all over the side of his face gave him that 'unconventionally beautiful' look...

notso · 11/01/2014 10:35

I got offered the Bounty photo of DS1 for half price because he looked like a badly shaved orang-utan after a fight the quality wasn't 100%.
He was orange from jaundice, had elf ears, a bent nose, big scratch marks all over his face, an arm mark because he was born arm first like superman, orange fuzzy hair all over his body.
He looked gorgeous by about day 4 though.

DD was beautiful straight away, the first thing she did was open her eyes and look around all serene looking.

DS2 was like an angry plum but very cute once he had got his normal colour and clamped himself on my boob.

I didn't get to look at DS3 properly for ages. The paramedic held him behind me for ages as I was trying and failing to push the placenta out and was in shock and really shaking and being sick so he had smoothed out by the time I saw him.
